Low-carb bootcamp

Week 8 - Low carb Bootcamp - only 3 weeks to go ...

Morning all.

On a train now and access to Google docs is blocked, so I can't link to the spreadsheet I'm afraid. So if someone else could do that I'd be very grateful.

Breakfast at Leon this morning so a good low carb start to the day. Two poached eggs and truffled ham hock.

Good luck to everyone this week and thanks for all your good wishes. Forgive me if I'm not around and posting that much this week.

I've been the same Stone. I was just stuck but then I started to see a slight upward creep. I held out against any form of counting other than carbs but eventually went back to logging and its paying off. I used a formula off the Jenny Ruhl web site. You chose your carb level and it works out what protein you need and your calorie level. Obviously the rest is fat. I get around 1200 cals split 5%C 20%P 75%F.

For those who are doing OK on BC, don't start thinking that it doesn't work. It does work wonderfully! I follow the thread for support but don't post my food etc in case I mess up Biwis good work by scaring folk into thinking you need to get involved in counting stuff. I went from 15st 10lb to 11 st 10lb on BC. My weight is currently a bit higher but I'm bloated with the heat. I have around 2st to go, I am a spit over 5ft and have very bad insulin resistance so I'm not exactly a good example! Grin

Oh God, yes, I don't want to make people feel they need to start counting calories, it's just I'm only about 5-10 lbs of my goal/ideal and usual weight so it's definitely a last push. It was just to let anyone in a similar position know what worked at this stage, it gave me a whoosh of 2lbs almost immediately and hopefully broke my plateau. It may be I only need to calorie count for a couple of days a week, or it may be something I have to watch every day. I'll let you know how it goes. And don't put down the cream on my account, drink it allll up.

Miffy that formula sounds good I think anything between 70/80% is right. Everyone is different I suppose so there is lots of tweaking to feel it's working for you.

I'm definitely not getting enough fat. I'm buttering vegetables, oiling up salads and frying fish etc but BPCs make me wanna puke, as does fatty meat. Also I suspect cheese makes me a bit bloaty.

I have about 10 lbs to go and struggle still with portion sizes so I think I may have to give MyFitnessPal a go. Summer hols now tho so I'll barely get chance to pee in private, let alone count my calories! May have to do best endeavours for a while and pick it up again in August!

Got a night out next Friday, was v stressed about what to wear as poor and still v fat. Only thing that fitted from pre baby wardrobe was top to toe black and quite dressy (not appropriate for tapas and karaoke casual evening with girlies) so popped into sainsbos and got a size 20 jeans. Am v excited, in September a size 24 was v snug. Am still wearing bigger stuff (because I don't want to spend lots of cash) but feeling great to be going down in size of not weight.

Ooh well done on dropping sizes Gcal! Star

Weight and dress size don't seem to go together on this WOE do they? I read somewhere that it's because muscle is more dense than fat so if you grow muscle and shed fat at the same time you end up smaller without being lighter on the scales. On low fat diets people can lose fat and muscle so end up smaller but less healthy at the end.

Thank you!!

I'm doing lots of rehab physio, pilates and weights so that would make sense pepper I'm definitely at least half a stone heavier than I was the last time I wore a size 20 jeans. It's frustrating though because although I'm happy to be getting better, healthier and stronger I DO need to get down to BMI of 30 for surgery. Whilst the drs are very positive about my loss of inches and improvement in fitness I need the scales to budge too.

Anyhoo KOKO!

Today i was a bit rubbish at eating food but had lots of water. It's toooooooo hot.

Bpc
5 egg omelette (made with unflavoured coconut oil - no milk or cream etc - makes its really fluffy) with 100g bacon lardons and 200g button mushrooms cooked in garlic oil. Shared with the DD and she had about a 3rd so reckon I had about 3 eggs?? Also a 1/4 swede made into chips.

gcal that's brillant on the jeans and jeans and a top sounds perfect for your night out hope you have an ace time

B - a bit of thinly sliced cabbage fried in butter, 2 eggs fried in yup more butter, cuppa, coffee
L - out with a friend at a cafe, had Cobb salad so bacon, dressing, eggs and cheese in there should meet the fat quota but I did have about 5 cherry tomatoes - another cup of tea
Not v hungry now, might just do cheesy leeks for tea, mostly so there's leftovers tomorrow and to use up the last of the leeks, going to be odd meals this weekend to use stuff up and a fair bit of eating out too

Hello

Late to Bootcamp due to having a small baby, but I have some questions.

I've been doing Bootcamp for two weeks now, and have gained a pound. Now, I've had an inkling that my diet has been more high protein/low carb, rather than high fat/low carb, but I thought I would still have lost some weight - so why haven't I? I mean, I have a good 20lbs of excess flab to lose, so I wasn't expecting my body to cling to it so effectively!

I guess I still feel a bit clueless about the fundamental points of low carbing, and that's frustrating. So: if I need to increase my fat intake (and decrease my protein intake??) what sort of proportions should we be looking at here?

I don't really want to start logging things on MFP, because I hate having to weigh everything in order to log it accurately.

And how do you manage to make your diet 70-80% fat anyway?

I also suspect I need to decrease my double cream intake, which makes me sad because I love it so. Will it be OK to have a slug in coffee twice a day, or should I ditch all dairy completely? No more Greek yoghurt with cream? Sob.

I'm not going to jack it in btw, I'm actually really happy with this WOE and love the way I don't feel compelled to snack on sugary things all day to keep my energy levels up. I'm just really annoyed that I haven't seen any results. And I'm impatient and want results, even if it is a pound a week.

Hi seaoflove, I find it helpful to read what others are eating who are doing well on bootcamp and do something similar. I'm losing weight but it's slower than I'd hoped. Just under half a stone in 4 weeks.

That's brilliant Gcal! I'm the same in that I still tend to wear a lot of old stuff simply for economy. I have shipped any very big stuff out to the charity shop though so theres no going back!Grin I've noticed that I feel so much slimmer and actually look a lot slimmer when I wear my decent kit that is actually the right size. I used to be a 24/26 but now I'm in a 12/14 and I get a real kick out of just holding up my t-shirts when I'm folding the washing and seeing how teeny they look compared to my old ones!

Just wish I could shift a bit more fat so that my nice new muscles would show better. DH got a bit of a shock when he shifted my dumbells the other day. He said he didn't realise how heavy they were given the way I swing them round. Grin Shame about the surgery. Docs are just so obsessive about BMI and can't see further than their nose ends.

seaoflove two weeks is too soon to start needing to tweak. Some people are slow starters and low carb messes with your fluid levels so just stick at it for now and the Whoosh Fairy should visit soon. BC should be low carb, moderate protein and high fat. If you get your fat levels up you should find you don't need to eat very large portions of protein. You may need to cut the yoghurt/cream but they are useful additions so I would just hang fire for now and give the basic BC a proper chance. As for fat, put butter on your veg, oily dressing/ mayo (pref home made) on your salads and eat the fattier cuts of meat. Above all, KOKO - keep on keeping on! Smile

miffy that's amazing to drop so many dress sizes! You must be feeling great.

I've come down with a cold and my son has had it too. That plus the heat has meant sleep has been a bit elusive and been feeling a bit run down this week for the first time since starting BC. On holiday next week though so things are on the up!

My food today:
B : Coyo - tried this for the first time this week, love it! Bit expensive but my shopping bill has gone down in general since starting BC so it's ok.
L: Horrible kale and chicken salad from a deli that cost £6.50. It was the only viable option but was not nice at all!
D: Will be steak with swede chips and broccoli. I'll probably make a creamy mushroom sauce to go with it

I've strangely been struggling with water in the heat but am keeping on with it making sure I get at least 2.5 litres.

Just tried acv in water - first try was yuck. Just shoved a glug in. Far too strong. A tsp on a pint of water is about right I think.

Today, again I've not felt like much food.
BPC for breakfast
Pork belly/ crisp crackling for lunch
Dinner will be out at my local Indian restaurant (tandoori mixed feast) which is awesome.

Hi, hope everyone is ok, will try and catch up on thread later. I have sturggled this week, I have been good for the most part but this afternoon exhaustion has led me to sugar. I need to go up to the shop in a min and make sure I get lots of low carb food for the next few days as I wont be getting any less tired.
Miffy wowsers thats a lot of weight, bet you look amazing. well done, I am getting rid of clothes as soon as they are too big so I am not tempted to slip back down the slippery slope.
