Week 3 - May Low Carb Bootcamp - you've survived the first fortnight!

Hello everyone. Smile I'm starting this week's thread as BIWI's away and Sayra's internet connection is a bit unreliable.

Here is the The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness.

Here is the weight tracker.

So firstly, a massive WELL DONE! for surviving the first fortnight. You now have the option of moving to Bootcamp Light, which means that you can introduce low carb fruits (berries, basically - raspberries, strawberries, red and blackcurrants) and nuts to your diet. Be careful though, as this can add a lot of carbs. Nuts, especially, can be very moreish. Some people stay longer on Bootcamp proper, some do Bootcamp Light at weekends and drink wine. I'm sure BIWI will be along when she gets the chance, to give you all some pointers.

Good luck with the weigh in, everyone, and please remember that weight loss is not a linear thing. Don't be discouraged if you haven't seen as much of a loss as you'd like - just KOKO and The Whoosh Fairy will visit you, whisking away a sudden whoosh of weight. Wink

Ellesbelles - you will find exercise hard until you've switched your body from burning carbs to burning fat. Give it a couple of weeks and you'll be fine. In the meantime don't push yourself so hard

dillite · 26/05/2015 20:14

I think I best check in seeing as I haven't been doing so for a few days. Today I put on a dress that was very tight before, but now 2 weeks down is rather loose, especially round the belly area. So I guess it's working?

Today, when making dd's food, I realised just how much I miss colour on my plate. Everything is just so green all the time. Plus meat, whatever colour that is. I miss red and yellow.

Food today- 3 bacon rashers with 2 scrambled eggs fried in butter with a bit of double cream in eggs. Cucumber.

lunch was at Pizza Express where I had their gammon, rocket, avocado and some other veg salad. I asked for no peas, so didn't have those. And no dressing as I didn't know what was in it.

Dinner were sausages with broccoli and beans in butter.

Water- not enough as I was out all day and there were no toilets that were easily accessible. I will try and have a liter before bed which should get me up to 2L today.

Now, let's talk fat, any ideas on how to get more of it? Other than cooking everything in coconut oil or butter?

BIWI · 26/05/2015 21:17

What's wrong with cooking everything in coconut oil or butter?!
Have a salad with an oily dressing
Add mayo to things (although beware that shop-bought mayo does have carbs in it)
If you are OK with dairy, you can add cream to sauces, or cheese.
And full fat yoghurt for breakfast.

Oh - and bacon and egg - surely that's red and yellow?! Grin

BIWI · 26/05/2015 21:23

By the way, don't forget about the week 3 (and/or 4) effect!

It's very common for people to report in weeks 3 or 4 that their weight loss has stopped altogether - or sometimes even to report a sight increase.

If this is happening to you, DON'T PANIC!

It's about your body adjusting to things. Once you get through the next couple of weeks, things will start to move again. Just keep on keeping on (or KOKO!).

But also be aware that the rate of loss will be slower than many of you have experienced so far, typically around 1-2lbs per week.

sassandfaff · 26/05/2015 21:25

gcal I was off to home bargains in the morning to clear them out if coconut flour then!

I hated pork scratchings. Yuk yuk. But I was determined to get on board. Finally found some I can tolerate, although I do need to suspend thinking whilst eating. Also they are wheat free. (A lot aren't) From sainsburys. The real pork scratching company for £1.

I got some venison salami and some wild boar salami from aldi the other day. Has anyone tried it?

dillite · 26/05/2015 21:29

There's nothing wrong with cooking everything in coconut oil and butter, but sometimes it feels like I am eating more protein than fat, that's all. I do drizzle oil on salads too. Or have some mayo. I was just wondering of other ways to get the fat in.

BIWI is it OK to have coconut Alpro Soya yoghurt? I've tried plain greek one but it just tastes like puke to me.

And I like my bacon crispy, so it's brown and yellow.

weegierama · 26/05/2015 22:12

feeling awful pleased with myself. back from 4 days camping and have stuck to BC rules. Feel great! Not weighing but clothes def looser. Sticking with the BC regime and going to invest in a jar of coconut oil

BIWI · 26/05/2015 22:16

According to Sainsbury's website, Alpro Coconut yoghurt is 2.3g per 100g - so it's not too bad. Just be careful how much you have!

Why do you think you're eating too much protein?

Something else to make sure you're doing is to eat fattier cuts of meat, then you will be eating less protein.

readyforno2 · 26/05/2015 22:45

These threads fill so fast!
What do you do with coconut flour? I saw it in Costco the other day and considered buying but didn't..

Food today
B coffee with cream
L leftover beef stew with cauliflower
D chicken wrapped in bacon with broccoli

Loads of water, still got a sore head though Confused

Patapouf · 26/05/2015 22:56

B: Coyo Vanilla (much nicer than normal coyo and still 0.5g carbs per 100g
L: Brussels sprouts & lardons in a cheesy sauce over celeriac/swede mash
D: spinach omelette. Could eat it all though, I think I overdid the spinach.

Fell asleep at 6:30 this evening when I got in from work, not sure why I was so tired. I've only had 2.5L of water so far today so I better guzzle some more before going back to bed.

Gcalgske · 26/05/2015 23:05

Coconut flour is good in a few recipes:- the cauliflower fauxlafel (recipe by 'I breath I'm hungry'), coconut pancakes and for breading things (prawns are superb) in dessicated coconut. I don't do much low carb baking. Sends me craving plus not BC legal!

Gcalgske · 26/05/2015 23:12

Today:-
Still feeling sh*tty Sad
B: tea with milk, Assam with Cocoa and hazelnut with almond milk
L: very very spicy green prawn curry (trying to sweat the cold out) of 1/2 hot green chilli, 2 largish mushroom, 1 small bok choi, 2 baby corn. Fried in tbsp coconut oil and tsp green Thai paste. Added in 100g coconut milk and some water and let bubble down.
D: left over celeriac and mackerel gratin.
Lots of cherry and cinnamon tea.
Just taken large dose of zinc, vit c, contact and smeared Vicks everywhere. Cold can bog off overnight please.

diggerdigsdogs · 27/05/2015 00:28

I'm still here but mega busy. doing fine. Made it through dinner without ordering off WOE and didn't eat popcorn at the cinema. Win!

ijustwanttobeme · 27/05/2015 00:48

I haven't posted in a while, but I have been sticking to BC as much as possible.

Today I had:

B: Slice of Edam wrapped in ham
L: peppered mackerel and salad
D: stuffed chicken breast, with garlic and herb cream cheese, wrapped in bacon, and another huge salad.
S: two cups of tea

diggerdigsdogs · 27/05/2015 01:19

Quickly while I'm feeding dd. Made the most delicious thing for lunch yesterday. It tasted stodgy and carby which I wanted. Basically fried left over lamb, 1 tsp garam masala, mushrooms, cauliflower rice, spinach and creme fraiche. Lovely.

Romeyroo · 27/05/2015 06:27

Good to know that you can get coconut flour cheaper than in Holland and Barrat! I don't particularly like it as I find the taste quite gritty, but others love it, so a matter of taste. Also depends on the recipe, I made coconut pancakes which were lovely a while back. My efforts at chocolate cake with coconut flour on the other hand ended up in the bin. So definitely something to buy cheap if you haven't tried it before.

Gcalske, hope you feel better soon.

dillite, yes, you need to like the colour green on this WOE! I did think eggs are yellow when I read your post, though Smile. I do occasionally make vegetable lasagne, where I use spinach and courgette instead of the pasta, which is a nice colour mix - though I just realised milk will be an issue here now, would this work with coconut milk? Hmm, need to see.

IBS issues continue, as does my quest to resolve them... KOKO everyone.

minibmw2010 · 27/05/2015 07:17

2lbs on while away which is not too bad as I did drink wine each evening. Bacon & eggs for b'fast, back on it ????

Gcalgske · 27/05/2015 08:16

Romey the koko milk drink (coconut based) is what I use in cooking for my little one who's cmpa. It's got a very mild coconut taste. When I make lasagne for her I normally use pesto to flavour the white sauce and you can't taste coconut.

plumstone · 27/05/2015 09:05

Morning all, feel thinner today - I have a pair of slouchy trousers which are definitely more slouchy round the tummy and hip area than they were three weeks ago.

Today will be:

B - BPC and two cold sausages
L - cold poached salmon in lots of mayo, with big salad and oily dressing and bag pork scratchings
D - Scrambled eggs with cream, mushrooms and chicken with skin
W - Three litters - just learnt my office supplies bottled water FOC so will be aiming to drink as much as I can while working!!!
Have a great day! xoxo

StuntNun · 27/05/2015 09:16

Gcalgske where do you get the dairy free pesto from? All the ones I've seen have cheese in them.

Gcalgske · 27/05/2015 09:33

Sainsbury do a couple. Sacla or meridian brands. Weirdly the sacla isn't in the free from section at our local one. They aren't the lowest in carbs but are ok as a standby. Or I make my own. Although Mr slug will need to leave me some effing basil plants for that....

diggerdigsdogs · 27/05/2015 11:06

How do you make a cheese sauce without a roux?

Tetley650 · 27/05/2015 11:35

Out to lunch today and luckily restaurant has an online menu going to have a naked burger (comes with coleslaw and tzatziki, will also order guacamole as a side). Restaurant is called Bill's.

Not wanting to tempt fate but feel as I might be winning but not going to weigh because if I'm not then it could send me over the edge. Made ds some treats but can't stand the smell of them so that is a definite win. Also finding that because I am drinking so much water and no tea or coffee during the day have lost the association of a hot hot drink and something to go with it! Another winSmile

Gcalgske · 27/05/2015 11:52

Cheese sauce without a roux is just cream, cream cheese and cheese gently melted or you can cheat. You get tubs of seriously strong cheddar spreading cheese (it's pretty low but can't remember carb count off the top of my head I think about 2g carb /100g) if you remove the foil and microwave it until runny it's pretty good. I use it as a dip for long stemmed broccoli or over cauliflower. Shock

Gcalgske · 27/05/2015 12:00

Stunt just checked sainsbos website and they seem to have stopped the meridian one (which makes sense as I got a case of it in date reduced to 50p per jar last shop - must have been being discontinued.) Holland and Barrett def have it though and they also have a pretty nice meridian dairy free coconut based korma sauce. Again it's a bit carby (8g/100g) but I tend to stretch it out with coconut milk to reduce the carbs and make it milder for the wee one. Nice to have in for when you need something quick to fling on the hob.
