Week 3 - May Low Carb Bootcamp - you've survived the first fortnight!

Hello everyone. Smile I'm starting this week's thread as BIWI's away and Sayra's internet connection is a bit unreliable.

Here is the The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness.

Here is the weight tracker.

So firstly, a massive WELL DONE! for surviving the first fortnight. You now have the option of moving to Bootcamp Light, which means that you can introduce low carb fruits (berries, basically - raspberries, strawberries, red and blackcurrants) and nuts to your diet. Be careful though, as this can add a lot of carbs. Nuts, especially, can be very moreish. Some people stay longer on Bootcamp proper, some do Bootcamp Light at weekends and drink wine. I'm sure BIWI will be along when she gets the chance, to give you all some pointers.

Good luck with the weigh in, everyone, and please remember that weight loss is not a linear thing. Don't be discouraged if you haven't seen as much of a loss as you'd like - just KOKO and The Whoosh Fairy will visit you, whisking away a sudden whoosh of weight. Wink

Maggie, just had a skim will read in greater detail later, interesting though I am beginning to lose the will to live having hovered at 167lbs fir two weeks but feel that there is less of me, so as per the article, it is working I just need to stop looking at those numbers and maybe go with the tape measure. Measured on the 1st March when I started to dabble with LC and was 33.5inches and am 30.5 this morning!!! Grin

Romeyroo · 28/05/2015 06:53

Wow plum, that is excellent! Well done to youStar

shebedee · 28/05/2015 08:11

Thanks BIWI & GCAL- I did read the packs. I can't shop if I forget my reading glasses these days. They were ITSU seaweed thins - the Wasabi pack has 0.6g per pack with 22 thins- a powerful taste for something so seemingly insignificant.

plumstone that's really good to hear

muummyto3 very good luck, but please remember that it's all in your hands ...

Three inches down! Fantastic news Plum.
I've been a bit lazy with meals for the last couple of days, too much snacky stuff and cold meats and salad and endless coffees . Have STS though, so not too bad. Going to log so I keep to better habits. I'm BCL now so having the odd berry/nut but not allowing nutty snacking with wine it's definitely my downfall!

Have friends for supper tomorrow and toying with the idea of doing tapas...any suggestions welcomed :)
B: Greek yoghurt, couple of berries.
L: hot chicken and avocado salad
S: Pork tenderloin stuffed with ham and Emmental and rolled in parma ham, ( sauce has a little white wine but not too much)with white cabbage or asparagus.

Hope you're feeling a little better Romey

Is it okay to list BCL items or is it confusing/tempting to other posters?

plumstone · 28/05/2015 09:05

Thanks Romey and BIWI, the big test will be Friday afternoon. I have not seen my Dad since Easter and as I have mentioned on previous posts, the man is not backwards at letting me know there has been an increase in the arse area - on the plus he is also the first to say I have lost and that I am looking good - he is also in charge of the food and beverage all weekend so is rising to the challenge of low carb, dairy and booze free meals.

On a more serious note - what is the damage of a gin and soda or vodka and soda (wine is a no go I get that, me and my liver are coming to terms with that slowly!!) however I was looking at tonic and it is quite carby, sugar free tonic is carb, sugar, and fat free so is this an option? My days of neat booze necking hard liquor are long gone, so I wondered if normal shot of gin, tall glass, lots of ice, lime wedge and soda would be an option? If its not I will stick to mint tea (I will channel the eccentric house guest and just drinking mint tea all the time)

Hi all, i have been KOKO here - i cant be bothered to post food as i have been run off of my feet but i have been very good. Cut the diary down, swapped to a couple of black decaf coffees, no wine, threw out the nuts and have been upping the fat - morning and afternoon BPC. I havent noticed a drop in weight yet but am hopeful for monday.

I have a B-Day party end of june and a dress in mind but i need it to skim and not cling by then - will be completely on track with BC and carry on with exercise.

I survived half term theme park hell! I took a great picnic and some of the bits were a little carby - Lidi roasted garlic mayo - 3.4g/100g and amazing!! I swerved all the carby shit on offer on site and Mils carb fest picnic. There was a lot of processed meat but hey ho. Lidl also did a tzaikik (sp) with extra olive oil - a bit carby at 4g/100g but great with cucumber to dip into.

Mil i got the cats bum face from Mil and the "i thought you were on a diet" - i couldnt be bothered to explain for the 100th time.

Have a fab day everyone. KOKO

Tetley650 · 28/05/2015 09:54

Third day without weighing and very much feeling in control and not the carby pixie who normally sits on my shoulder egging me on. I think we have to plan to succeed and not plan to allow ourselves to be distracted. Sanctimonious cow you are probably thinking, but then if you have been on as many diets as I have ( at one point a new one every week because by day three I'd not seen the losses that I'd wanted) you would understand that being in week 3 and not having lost but put on loads and still believing that at some point the whoosh fairy will come to a small village in Hampshire is a big change in attitude for me. Good choices again today everyone and we will all get to where we want to be and not have too many BIWI sticks waved at us. Win win!!!

saranghae · 28/05/2015 09:56

That's great Plum, congratulations!

Haven't been feeling great the past few days - return of the stomach issues from last week and nausea which is annoying .But I'm trying to follow the bootcamp rules and koko.

I have plans later today to meet friends, but I'm worried as we usually bring food to share .. food that would be offlimits for bootcamp. I'm fine to bring things they like to eat, but struggling with what snacks I could eat myself without broadcasting I'm on a diet. I wouldn't be able to eat much anyway - feeling ill but just in case I feel tempted if you see what I mean. Any suggestions?

cathyandclaire · 28/05/2015 10:07

Plum I think gin with soda and a slice of lime or slimline tonic is as low carb as alcohol can be. Your body isn't burning fat when it's burning alcohol, so it can hinder weight loss but I think it's allowed on Bootcamp lite. We try to avoid artificial sweeteners so the lime option may be better and absolutely delicious IME especially if you squeeze the lime chunk a little
Have a fab weekend.

sassandfaff · 28/05/2015 10:30

plum red wine is OK. Like Cathy says, you body will pick to burn the alcohol first over fat, but spirits and red wine are generally seen as the go to choices.

Gcalgske · 28/05/2015 11:03

saranghae what about taking an antipasti platter?

Gcalgske · 28/05/2015 11:05

Tesco did a nice finest one for about £5, it was just various meats, olives and semi dried toms.

saranghae · 28/05/2015 11:16

Thanks Gcalgske, but I can't eat the meat on the platters unfortunately - religious reason. Such a shame because they look so tasty in the shops!
I thought about bringing a cheese board but again only I would eat it and it would be wasted.

StuntNun · 28/05/2015 11:26

Plum gin, wedge of lime and soda water is about as low carb as you can get with alcohol. If you can switch to just soda water without anyone noticing then so much the better. As a general rule of thumb clear spirits are the lowest carb. Atkins originally thought red wine was lower carb than white wine because white wine tastes sweeter but actually there isn't much difference between the two.

Gcalgske · 28/05/2015 11:42

Ooo that makes it tricky - what about some nice olives/nuts (if BC lite)?

plumstone · 28/05/2015 11:45

Awesome thanks every one - love from Plum aka the Gin Demon!!!! xoxo

Also re platters with no meat - I have done one yolks ago (wierdo veggie ex) any who - cheese, but padded out with artichoke quarters, sundried toms, olives and pickled onions I know totally odd but he liked it.

plumstone · 28/05/2015 11:46

Thinking about it - would quails eggs hard boiled work on something like that - thinking small finger food - actually not really antipasti is it - sorry - as you were!!

saranghae · 28/05/2015 11:53

Yeah, I know! As far as I know, my friend suspects a nut allergy so she won't eat it and they both hate olives.
Think I will have to head into town before and try to find something isn't too carby. Last time I bought fruit, no one ate it but me.

saranghae · 28/05/2015 11:58

I thought about eggs too with some cheese and stuff but my friend also sensitive to eggs - can't eat them without being ill.
The more I think about it, the more this is turning out to be mission impossible...haha.

I will bring a small packet of nuts and eat it if I get hungry even though it's not exactly bootcamp.

Fatstacks · 28/05/2015 12:18

Nuts are dicks.

They cause amnesia.

You can only remember eating them when the scales laugh at you.

Gcalgske · 28/05/2015 12:29

Love it fats I find macadamias to be particularly bad!

What about a plate of crudités with guacamole or sour cream & chives to dip?

Hissy · 28/05/2015 12:31

Thanks Romeyroo :) Friend isn't making it, no. Shop bought. TBH, we have 9/10 year old boys.... if you blink you miss out on food when they are around anyway!

Baba Ganoush... looks like it might be low carb! I can make that too! But what to dip in it.... CELERIAC CRISPS! Inspired!!!

So... a plate of sliced meats and some cheese, baba ganoush and celeriac crisps, olives.

Job done! I will let her know I am bringing it though, out of politeness if nothing else :)

Last night I did the Fish and celeriac Chips - oh that was great! DS loved it too. coated in whizzed up pork rind, parmesan and some dessicated coconut. FAB-U-LOUS! Grin

I'm trying to find a way of eating fat that is not dairy, but I don't like eating savoury things or 'lunch/dinner' food at breakfast. Bacon is good, but can't do that every day, getting bored of eggs somehow

B: egg 'muffin' - chopped ham, pepperoni, veg, with 4 slices of cheese and dollop of mayo, coconut yoghurt with spoons of greek and double cream, black coffee

L: salad with meats/mayo
D: probably similar

shebedee · 28/05/2015 13:02

Breakfast today was all sourced from the reduced shelf -smoked salmon, baby asparagus with my first attempt at Hollandaise sauce. It curdled a bit Sad, which made it look a bit off putting but I ate it anyway- tasted OK.
I tried the all in one pan method but maybe the more complicated traditional method would give me a better result. Will not give up.

Lunch- tuna mayo salad
Dinner- salmon, spinach and courgettes with some kind of buttery sauce.
Snack- have the vanilla CoYo to try later which someone recommended.
