Week 3 - May Low Carb Bootcamp - you've survived the first fortnight!

CrabbyTheCrabster · 25/05/2015 05:51

Hello everyone. Smile I'm starting this week's thread as BIWI's away and Sayra's internet connection is a bit unreliable.

Here is the The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness.

Here is the weight tracker.

So firstly, a massive WELL DONE! for surviving the first fortnight. You now have the option of moving to Bootcamp Light, which means that you can introduce low carb fruits (berries, basically - raspberries, strawberries, red and blackcurrants) and nuts to your diet. Be careful though, as this can add a lot of carbs. Nuts, especially, can be very moreish. Some people stay longer on Bootcamp proper, some do Bootcamp Light at weekends and drink wine. I'm sure BIWI will be along when she gets the chance, to give you all some pointers.

Good luck with the weigh in, everyone, and please remember that weight loss is not a linear thing. Don't be discouraged if you haven't seen as much of a loss as you'd like - just KOKO and The Whoosh Fairy will visit you, whisking away a sudden whoosh of weight. Wink

Still on stricter boot camp and just doing a daily food check
B - bacon and scrambled eggs, a BPC and another with just cream
L- chicken wrapped in bacon with Delouis garlic mayo and a small avocado
D- pork chops with mashed swede, brocolli and very creamy mushroom sauce
Snack- ITSU seaweed crisp things I found in Waitrose -AMAZING - (I hope OK on BC)
H20 - 3 litres down and out tonight where I plan to drink at least another litre of the sparkling variety.
Is this a bit light on veg?

Romeyroo · 27/05/2015 20:28

hissy and justone, I think an antipasti platter sounds perfect. If your friend is ordering or making pizza, Hissy, it might be good to let her know in advance that you are low carbing and would like to bring the platter instead as a contribution; that way you are not turning down already made food.

I am still struggling with the IBS symptoms here, so not going to post food or anything much at the moment, as I am not eating very much, so wouldn't be helpful. I am hoping it is not psychosomatic.

BestIsWest · 27/05/2015 20:36

Just posting to mark my place really. I am trying to have a dairy free week to see if that gets the weight moving. The Alpro soya and coconut yoghurt is not too bad though I am missing cheese.

BIWI · 27/05/2015 20:39

shebedee what did the back of the packet say, re the carbs? Please tell me you didn't eat them without checking first ...

Romey I'm sorry you're still suffering. Would it help, do you think, to list out what you are eating, to see if any of us can help? Lots of us here, I think who are/have been IBS sufferers in the past.

Tetley650 · 27/05/2015 20:45

Lex - Bill's are all over the place!! Just got back from evading viewers - dinner 11/2 slices of corned beef ( would have been 2 but Rooby the Bassett hound stole the other 1/2) one avocado and mayonnaise - no thieving hounds / texture I think.
1/2 litre water to go and that'll be 3.5 today!! Smile

lisbapalea · 27/05/2015 21:03

Pleased with food today and generally feeling good - back to normal on the stomach front thank god. I had a treat of a day at a spa with my mum (dad's Christmas present to us both) and it was lovely to have a whole day of relaxing. Mum finally questioned my eating when I declined her offer of bread with my salad at lunch, so I just said I was avoiding sugar in most of its forms. I thought that was simpler than trying to get her head round the high fat thing. It seemed to keep her quiet, for a while at least!

B - coyo and Greek yog with some berries and coconut flakes
L - Caesar salad with bacon and anchovies (not very authentic!) - I left the croutons and tomatoes
D - courgetti with a delicious sauce of leeks, bacon, some leftover bbq'd pork, mushrooms and cream, with parmesan

Romeyroo · 27/05/2015 21:15

Thanks, Biwi, I think what triggered it was eating leeks, asparagus and celery all new in the same week (last week), as I have pretty much been sticking to veg I know are fine with me (spinach and courgettes as well as dark salad veg). I really don't want to bore people with my digestive issues, I have had so many allergies and food intolerances in the past, but I thought the low carbing had knocked the IBS stuff on the head. I have taken up an awful lot of this thread as it is.

The last couple of days my meals have been really non-existent as I am bloated and in pain so don't feel hungry. So today

B - I had a slice of parma ham and a bit of cheese
L - I had spinach leaves
D - I made DC a vegetable lasagne, and from that I had a bit of the Bolognese sauce and vegetables (spinach), none of the white sauce as it was lactofree milk which I am allergic to.

I am going to stop my multivitamin as realised it has iron and that caused me problems before - I started taking it again as I was too tired otherwise, and only just remembered. I have cut my coffee and am drinking lots of water and peppermint tea.

I have been adding coconut oil to the peppermint tea in the morning. I have also got Colpermin, and I have made sure and walked two miles or thereabouts in the last few days. I am minded to do some kind of liquid only cleanse so that there is nothing going in until things have come out, but no idea where to start with that.

Even DD said I looked pregnant this morning. I told her there was no way that would even be remotely a chance.

Gcalgske · 27/05/2015 21:16

I've had itsu seaweed thins - they are about 0.5g per pack if it's the same thing shebe. As far as I can remember they are just nori and oil/salt so totally BC friendly.

BIWI · 27/05/2015 21:19

That sounds grim, Romey. But please don't worry about talking about it on here.

I know it may be making you feel worse, but if you're not eating much then that's not going to help you with the tiredness Sad

How are you with eggs? Could you manage some scrambled egg, perhaps?

The other supplement to consider would be Vitamin D - a deficit of this can also contribute to the tiredness.

mummyto3under4 · 27/05/2015 21:49

Really struggling today. Barely drank water prob just 1ltr at most. It's my sones birthday tomorrow and I'm scared I'm gonba eat the wrong things and I won't be able to stop myself all day from binging on junk and I'll prob just carry on till after the weekend. Especially now I feel like my weight isn't shifting anymore ??

ijustwanttobeme · 27/05/2015 21:59

Another goodish day for me- although didn't manage to drink 3l of water

B: cheese slices and a coffee
L: mackerel salad
D: chicken salad
S: bag of pork scratchings

Walked over 4 miles today so (rightly or wrongly) so half a Crabbe's ginger beer was my treat.

LexLoofah · 27/05/2015 22:03

mummy nooo do not go back to the dark side! make sure you have nice lc food on hand tomorrow. your weight definitely won't shift if you binge on junk - just tell yourself that it is sugary shit and poison to boot and you will feel terrible if you eat it. it no longer seems appetising once you know what it does to your body. KOKO, it has only been 2.5 weeks

ditavonteesed · 27/05/2015 22:06

I have been feeling rubbish today, all cold and just not quite right. Still been good though :) koko I cant believe th difference this woe has made to me, I feel a bit daft that I didn't realise years ago.
My mum gave me a loads of clothes that are too big for her so I now have some clothes to wear if I shrink.

Ideally I would like to lose 3 stone which would take me to under 10 stone which I havent been since I was about 20. For the first time ever I can actually see my self seeing it through.

BIWI · 27/05/2015 22:23

mummyto3

You know about week 3/4 - I've already warned you about that!

There's one thing I can guarantee for you, though. If you decide to go off piste, then it's you who will suffer. You are in control, not anyone or anything else.

readyforno2 · 27/05/2015 22:51

Koko mummy. Honestly BIWI knows what's she's talking about.

Food today
B coffee with cream,2 eggs scrambled in loads of butter
L broccoli and cauliflower soup with a splash of cream
D creamy leeks and mushrooms

Loads of water although I am trying to be more mindful with what I drink.

Tetley650 · 27/05/2015 23:12

So been doing some surfing - fatbombs - discuss. Arethey helpful on BC or are they BCL - if anyone has eaten them what did you use?

trashcanjunkie · 28/05/2015 00:37

Fat bombs are useful if you're close to target and need to up your fat, or are doing ultra lc to get through a stall.

I am off camping first thing, food has been all over the place today. Epic fail. Will pick it back up on Monday and draw a line.

Have a good weekend everybody.

mummyto3under4 · 28/05/2015 00:45

Thank you so much for the encouragement ladies! I know for a fact that once I eat all the rubbish I'll go on a downward slope and won't be able to stop it will just snowball and I'll fall off the wagon! And I know that if I do do it then I'll feel like absolute shit!!!im going to try my hardest to KOKO!!

Thank you for the encouragement x

diggerdigsdogs · 28/05/2015 01:50

Just checking in. Off to the farm this arvo so have aggresively meal planned to get through. Not lots of internet there so may be quiet for a few days.

justonemorethread · 28/05/2015 05:04

Well, these are yesterday's meals, hopefully ok on the porten

B - cream cheese pancake (2 egg 2 dollop cream cheese)

L - Fried eggplant in olive oil topped with little bit of mozzarella, parmesan and tomato

D - 3/4 tin of tuna with mayo, 1 fried egg, large side portion of courgette fried in butter.

justonemorethread · 28/05/2015 05:05

protein!! what kind of autocorrect is porten!!

Romeyroo · 28/05/2015 05:16

Yes, autocorrect can be bizarre sometimes! Are you vegetarian, or does it just happen there is no meat in there?

Biwi, thanks, it is grim, but on the plus side, the hardly wanting to eat has meant that the extra lbs have gone, so I am now 1lb down on where I was two weeks ago. I honestly think the flare up is the effect of the different veg, plus possibly stress/workload/wonky sleep patterns, so it is a reminder to me that even on this WOE, which has been very beneficial to me, I still need to be careful what I eat. It is a pain that the flare-up is taking so long to clear. I have D3 so will take that and not the iron and see if that helps. But that apart, I will leave my digestive issues off the thread now.

AuntieMaggie · 28/05/2015 06:28

Morning. this article popped up on my fb this morning about 15 reasons you may not be losing weight on a low carb diet - I've only skim read it but much of it says the same as BIWI does.

StuntNun · 28/05/2015 06:33

BIWI know all, Maggie, that's why she gets to carry the big stick. Wink

StuntNun · 28/05/2015 06:34

Oops that should have read BIWI knows all! Sorry if it sounded rude < ducks away from said big stick >
