We filled up the last thread and we still have 3 weeks to go until the next official BC so here is our new inbetween BC thread.

Link to previous thread

So, I was good yesterday and now all of my confessions are lost on the previous thread Grin but I am going to carry on with daily weighing and food recording so this morning I weighed 225 lbs.

Morning, Flowers for all!!!! its Thursday and nearly the weekend Grin

On a lightly more sobering thought - slightly panicky about the next few days, re food - off to the US for work on Saturday morning and this WOE is fine when I can plan (i love a spreadsheet and have mild OCD when it comes to planning and control) but am getting more than slightly concerned about the whole trip re food. Advice so far has been:

Just forget about it when you are there - think of it as a reason to eat what you want - who knows when you will be back there! Hmm

For me this is NOT a diet - but a way to manage my weight and eating habits for life - not something I dip in and out of

The next piece of advise was "buy beef jerky - its low carb and widely available in the US" I get that but 5 fecking days of it - I don't think that's healthy!

Any advice would be totes amaze balls Smile thanks xoxo

DarkEvilMoon · 07/05/2015 10:27

America has been more clued up on gluten and wheat free foods than the uk simply due to litigation reduction, I think my advice would be that you will probably have to have the guts to say you are on a restricted diet for medical (well health is medical Wink) could they recommend something and most places would be more likely to try to help find something. US is not a place I worry about potentially going with my complex range of foods tbh. The US chains have had their allergy information (incl all ingredients) available for years. If you know where you will be it is possible you can do some research on line prior to going. Plus America is the capital for catering to specialist woes/diets and there is little language barrier (assuming you are a native/fluent english speaker).

DarkEvilMoon · 07/05/2015 10:31

That said you might have to bootcamp lite/paleo for the trip but it would be minimal variation rather than the full on meh skip the diet Hmm advice.

OMG Sass they look amazing. My newly emptied in prep of eventual relocation stash storage is not looking good at staying that way. Not sure whether to thank or curse you Grin

sassandfaff · 07/05/2015 10:39

Ha dark they are amazing. I've been to both. I preferred yarndale. But woolfest might be bigger.

Talking of stash. I also have a big bag of sheep's wool right off the sheep. Bought at woolfest for £6. I was going to wash it and spin it etc, but still haven't got round to it. Probably stinks now!!!!!

plumstone · 07/05/2015 10:41

Thanks Dark - my boss has helpfully mentioned that I could eat a philly cheese steak each night for dinner as he correctly mentioned there are no carbs in that!!!! Grin will google the hotel and see what they are like food wise!

StuntNun · 07/05/2015 11:58

My DH finds it easier to eat low carb in the US Plumstone. There's a big paleo movement there and they tend to be more easygoing about making changes to menu items there.

plumstone · 07/05/2015 12:22

Thanks Stunt - having spent some time this morning googling - I think once I am there I will be OK!!!

miffy49 · 07/05/2015 12:27

Oh Sass! I wouldn't dare go to either of those! I would be in debt for the rest of my life. Divorced too! Grin

Have you noticed Trash how you never actually have the right yarn for the project in hand? You just have to order some and then you see something else and think you might as well get that and save on postage.......and so it goes on! Grin

Most of my stuff goes to a little UK charity called Cuddles. We make tiny items for the specialist bereavement midwives in hospitals all around the UK. My main thing is little crochet cribs around 8-10ins long lined in satin and with matching bedding. We even have a really clever lady who makes the tiniest teddies you ever saw. She sends me a supply so that each crib has a little teddy included. At least I can tell myself that my yarn is not an expense, its a contribution!

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 07/05/2015 14:17

Plum I wouldn't worry about the US at all, I follow quite a few of the US lchf facebook pages and they are always going on about ordering out. The resturants seem to change whatever you want without a fuss. It doesn't surprise me after going there before LC, let's face it, American customer service is a lot better than here Grin
We are off to Florida in the summer, I might take the opportunity to get a few low carb products from Walmart- they seem to have tons.

plumstone · 07/05/2015 14:50

Thanks Natural - Walmart - added to the list!!!

clare8allthepies · 07/05/2015 14:53

Hello all,

Pleasant surprise this morning to find 3 pounds gone overnight! (Am a sneaky every day weigher)

Only problem today is that I haven't felt hungry at all, had a pepperami and a couple of cubes of cheese before I went out as I felt I ought to have something. Made myself some scrambled eggs when we got back and really had to force them down!

Probably for the best though as I have a 40 portion vanilla cake on my dining table that I got from ASDA, it's humongous!

plumstone · 07/05/2015 15:22

hi all, I have a question..... What are thoughts on ketone sticks? I have some and tried them this morning - dark purple which means I am a fat burning plum - but then i thought that might not actually be that helpful! thoughts?

StuntNun · 07/05/2015 15:38

Plum they should be light at the most otherwise you aren't drinking enough water. When ketones in the blood get too high your body releases insulin to slow down ketone production. Drinking water flushes the excess ketones so not only does your ketone production stay high but you are losing calories as ketones lost in the urine which will contribute towards weight loss.

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 07/05/2015 19:14

"Eat fat, stay fit?" On itv at 7.30 :)

Romeyroo · 07/05/2015 20:58

Oh, miffy, that is both lovely and very sad. How kind and thoughtful.

plum, I haven't been to the U.S. for 15 years, I realise. But I remember going back in the nineties when it was all low fat, no fat on a scale unseen here as that was the thing. I was also young enough to get endless coffees on the house, which would so not happen now. And I have realised it was before Starbucks came over here. So yes, agree it should be fine, if not entirely BC friendly.

clare, well done on losing three pounds! Ignore the cake! There was cake in our office today, I walked on by!

Right, I have been reflecting on all your thoughts and advice. sass, you may indeed get a pm about how to target wobbly bits! happy, exercise is a bit of a struggle for time, money and childcare reasons; but I realised I could, once DS starts school and childcare costs go down, join a gym near us, and as well as weights and swimming, use the cafe they surely have for quiet work time as I will go off peak. i can't do this till autumn though, so it is a longer term plan. That apart, I have copied that bit of the thread into my personal notebook, because I think if I log bits of my journey, it will help. Lex, I hope you are right that some corner turning will happen - this Roman Road is exhausting

loving the knitting/crochet/wool chat

sass, i think my location might out me but it is not north west - put it this way, if stereotype were true, I'd have put on weight from the deep fried Mars Bars

plumstone · 07/05/2015 21:02

Ooh Romey, I grey up,with a deep fried Mars bar and was not adverse to a deep, fried pizza in my time, oddly enough you can"t get them where I am now!

plumstone · 07/05/2015 21:03

Grey, honestly I really have to learn to taupe or proof read Grin

plumstone · 07/05/2015 21:05

FFS grew up and type!

BIWI · 07/05/2015 21:46
Grin
Patapouf · 07/05/2015 21:46

What colour are ketostix if you're not losing any fat then? I can't get my head around it, although I do realise they are useless if enough water is being drunk.

I'm nervous about BC starting next week.

BIWI · 07/05/2015 21:48

If you're not burning fat then you won't show anything on the ketostix.

You don't need ketostix to tell you that you're burning fat. If you follow the rules of Bootcamp, you will be lowering your carb intake enough so that you will be losing weight.

Why are you nervous, Patapouf?!

Patapouf · 07/05/2015 22:10

It's one thing gradually restricting carbs over the last few weeks but completely eliminating them and knowing I can't have them makes me feel nervous. I'm so very attached to sugar that I'm finding it hard to envisage no sugar in my diet. Well I can, by I don't think I can cope psychologically, it's my crutch. I don't think I've explained myself very well. I'm nervous, but also very excited.

So it's the same colour on ketostix if you're not burning fat as if you are burning far but drinking lots of water?

I'm going to print BC rules and stick them on the fridge. I think I'll start on Sunday just because I've got the whole day to prep food and meal plan for the coming week.

BIWI · 07/05/2015 22:11

Ketostix are a waste of time and money. If you're burning fat, but also drinking the amount of water you should be on Bootcamp, the ketostix will hardly change anyway!

CrabbyTheCrabster · 07/05/2015 22:46

Miffy I was a student midwife and on two occasions made good use of the beautiful clothes and blankets knitted by people like you. They are very much needed and appreciated. Flowers

Ok day today, feeling better than I have done the rest of this week. Went to gym again, though the amount I can manage is pretty pitiful. Blush I'll get better and fitter, though.

food today
L: tuna and a hard boiled egg in mayonnaise (made it with hemp and walnut oils - delicious and nutty) with cherry toms and salad.
S: gouda cheese, olives, mayonnaise.
D: black farmer chipolatas, roasted mashed celeriac, stir fried broccoli.
