We filled up the last thread and we still have 3 weeks to go until the next official BC so here is our new inbetween BC thread.

Link to previous thread

So, I was good yesterday and now all of my confessions are lost on the previous thread Grin but I am going to carry on with daily weighing and food recording so this morning I weighed 225 lbs.

Stick with it Dark. For me a ketogenic diet has been the only thing to improve my energy levels. The minute I hit sugar I get a massive flare. I've had fibro for around 15yrs now so I've tried pretty much everything else! I would never eat any other way now.

The allergy/intolerances that come with the FMS are a pain. As you say, they seem to keep mounting up. I have a type of arthritis inherited from my mother's side of the family and also vulval pain syndrome (related to a botched episiotomy and also linked in to fibro) so I can't eat grains, gluten, oxalates or nightshades! Thank heavens quite a lot of the foods overlap or I would starve! That's another reason why I like the luxury of low carb. If I had to eat low fat I think I'd give up!

Over the last few months my weight has gone nowhere. I had a great start and lost a lot. Still have around 2 stone to go so its not because I'm close to target. I've followed all the suggestions offered but to no avail. I am pretty sure its down to the fibro and the affect it has on stress hormones such as cortisol. The more you stress about your diet the worse it all gets. As one who has been there I would suggest that you try and hit the stress side of things before you cut out anything else diet-wise. Just KOKO with the plan and try to work out a system of pacing yourself so that you aren't continually banging your head against the fibro wall. I jot down certain essentials so I don't forget them but I don't do massive to-do lists any more. They are just depressing! Always try and factor in a bit of time for something you want to do that will give you satisfaction. A good fibro friend told me that one and it makes a big difference to how you cope with it all.

DarkEvilMoon · 05/05/2015 13:10

Thanks miffy It is good advice!!
Unfortunately this month combines essential building work, a school residential and a major competition for ds. He is aspie so stress levels are just through the roof atm, as are essential jobs like post building cleaning. It is making pacing hard. It has been suggested eggs might be a problem, which would be a nightmare as they are a major food source for me. So adding that to the wheat, gluten, dairy (although tollerate a little cheese), nightshades, peanuts, spices (some not all), garlic it is feeling a little like mission impossible. Fingers crossed it is the events and demands rather the eggs. That said it could be something simple like washing power formula being changed, companies like to do that sometimes. Apparently it improves things Hmm

miffy49 · 05/05/2015 13:50

Yes, they also happily change recipes in foods without any sort of warning so the constant vigilance gets exhausting doesn't it?

I found that, for awhile at any rate, the intolerances seemed never ending. Once you cut something out it seems to make the problem worse if you add even a tiny bit back. One thing I've found a huge problem is hidden gluten. Theres a lot of stuff passed as gluten free by the Coeliac Society that causes problems to quite a substantial number of sufferers but the insist on sticking with the 20ppmillion formula. For me a big problem in my pre-LC days was glucose syrup. The source can be wheat or maize (or even potato) but doesn't have to be declared. I found I could eat something one time but be really ill the next. Yeast extract is another. I got some pork scratchings with gluten free emblazoned all over the packet and was ill for about 3 days with vicious cramps. I know some yeast extract is a by-product of the brewing industry but there are ones available from other sources so you assume that if the label says gluten free that they have used gluten free ingredients!

I was a long time before I tried giving up dairy as its just so useful. I was almost relieved when it made no difference even though I desperately want to lose more weight. Now I just keep cheese as a main meal ingredient and only snack on it in an emergency eg Baby Bels for handbag use if I'm going anywhere where I might have to forgo the food I try to be mindful of the amount of cream I use. I could easily spoon up my body weight in cream! Shock I love Greek yoghurt and cream but I'm forgoing that at the moment as its quite carby in quantity and often leaves me wanting more.

Good luck with all you have to cope with. I don't envy you! It broke my heart when fms hit me and I lost my career and my income and a whole load of self respect but I do thank my lucky stars that the kids had reached a point where they were fairly self sufficient. I don't envy young mums trying to deal with it at all!

trashcanjunkie · 05/05/2015 13:53

Are you mainly just eating dinner for breakfast then stunty? Well bloody done!

I think I'm alright with butter but I'm going without for a bit first then I will reintroduce. The coconut oil is fine with eggs.

Just had lunch which was tuna mayo with some cucumber, radish, half a spring onion on some little gem leaves. Had a massive cup of tea made with a lady grey t bag, then added a berry tea and apple and pear teabag, with some more coconut oil. That has warmed me up a bit.

Dinner is going to be mutton chops, with I will marinade in chilli and coriander and eat with a very fucking small portion of veg/salad.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 05/05/2015 17:43

Day 1 of egg fast (planning on three days) Just thought I'd try and kick start this thing before BC starts. To be honest, I've just booked holiday for very end of July and I'm panicking. I wanted to look and feel good for summer, but the weight predictions on apps are estimating a 2016 finish. I'm not going to get there, but would like another stone gone in 12 weeks. Possible??????
Should I hit the gym?

LexLoofah · 05/05/2015 19:23

where is everyone today? off carb loading before next Monday - I hope not!

B - the very last of the cabbage re-fried in butter, 2 poached eggs
for some reason did not fill me up like usual as had a babybel at 10:30 - have not needed a morning snack since about week 2 of last bc so not sure what is up, poss totm coming up?
L - huge tub of hm tuna mayo with olives, pepper, celery, hm dill pickles (very happy with these) all with a huge helping of spinach - nicely stuffed now
D - going to make the slow cooker minced beef curry from the recipe thread with cauli rice from my freezer stash

Last night we had cauli cheese (or more accurately cauli 4 cheeses) for dinner and I had 'planned' on having a sq of dark choc after but ended up not doing so as was perfectly full and happy not to. Glad it is an option for when there is a need but also happy I can now take it or leave it. Brill.

sassandfaff · 05/05/2015 20:13

naturalblonde you could hit the gym, but cardio doesn't do much for weight loss and will make you hungrier.

The best thing to do is weight training. Free weights are better than the machines, but can be a bit intimidating if they are full of grunting men. Either ask a gym instructor to show you an exercise for each muscle group or use the machines.

Don't do what 90% of gym goers do though and lift a weight that you could lift all day. You really need to be failing to lift on your last one. So if you do 10 leg presses, the weight should be heavy enough that by the 10th one, you shouldn't be able to do it.

If you get to 10, start again with an higher weight until you find the right weight.

Do that for each exercise.

Weight training burns fat better than cardio.

sassandfaff · 05/05/2015 20:16

And it tones. I had fab arms, legs and ass in 2009.

Squats are a women's best friend. If your brave enough, ask an instructor to show you how the smith machine works.

HolgerDanske · 05/05/2015 20:24

Me too Sass, me too.

sassandfaff · 05/05/2015 20:57

Dp's oldest friend from his school days was blessed with a Ds today. (He has a dd). So I've spent a lot of my day doing this. Not finished yet.

I think it's over 6 months since I last made something. Tried to not just make it blue!

I'm fighting the urge to nip out now for something 'nice' 85% choc or yogurt or nuts!

holger Sad

Romeyroo · 05/05/2015 21:10

I am here, but woke up with the black cloud of despair over me. Waiting for it to shift before engaging properly in thread conversation again.

Not carb-loading, though, aside from a bit too much dark chocolate, which just had the effect of making me feel sick and reminding me why dark chocolate is best in small doses.

BIWI · 05/05/2015 21:12

Back last night - very late, thanks to a delayed flight from Bordeaux. Had a lovely few days, but was definitely not Bootcamping! So back on track now. We have a new Crussh just opened up the road from the office, and they sell zero noodles, so had Ginger Chicken Teriyake, which was lovely.

However, discovered that it was over 16g carbs for the portion I had, so not quite as 'zero' as I had thought! Still, in the great scheme of things, it wasn't that bad.

CrabbyTheCrabster · 05/05/2015 22:38

Miffy and Dark that sounds horrendous. Flowers

Romey why the cloud of despair?

Sass is it better to do fewer reps at a higher weight, then? I've just started going to the gym and I'm wary of buggering up my dodgy back so have been erring on the side of caution with the weights. I enjoy the weights and machines much more than the fucking boring sweatmaking cardio stuff.

Am back to low carb today after a planned weekend off. Am starting BC proper tomorrow, to get the first fortnight out of the way before the end of the month. Not looking forward to it at all but am grimly determined.

Food today:
L: celeriac 'tagliatelle' with walnut pesto and chicken. Berry almond crumble with clotted cream.
S: goats' cheese and olives
D: smoked mackerel with asparagus and hollandaise sauce.

sassandfaff · 05/05/2015 22:59

Not necessarily crabby it depends what you want.

I'm assuming most people on here would want the aesthetic reasons for weight training, which would be between 8-10 reps.

There are really just two types of weight training- strength/power and endurance. Lower reps for strength/power. Higher reps for endurance. You could do a middle ground for a bit of both.

The secret is to go to failure. Muscles need ripping in order to repair and get stronger. A lot of women are put off because they think they will look like body builders, but that will not happen. We haven't got enough testosterone for that to happen. Women who look like that take steroids.

There are a lot of exercises that do not engage the back at all. So I wouldn't be afraid of going strong on these. Although depending on whether you do free weights or machines, this can differ.

I have a dodgy lower back. If you do, i ve found one of the best exercises to be the superman on a gym ball. It is a reverse core strengthening exercise. Core is key to back. And planks are key to core. Smile

sassandfaff · 05/05/2015 23:01

romey Thanks

sassandfaff · 05/05/2015 23:09

back exercise

I call it superman, but it is slightly different to it. This is the one I mean.

sassandfaff · 05/05/2015 23:12

Try again!!

Romeyroo · 06/05/2015 05:35

Thanks, sass and crabby. Why is a good question, the easy answer to say is it just is at the moment, but there is stuff which needs a bit of unpicking. I need to work it through a bit more till I get to the point where I am asking for positive input rather than splurging my troubles, because some of it relates to weight and body image - and I am not sure this thread is the right place, and the upcoming BC thread is certainly not.

Romeyroo · 06/05/2015 05:36

I'm liking the superman though Smile and the toning advice, there may be something in that for me too.

sassandfaff · 06/05/2015 07:51

romey I'm sure no one will mind if you splurge your troubles, but I understand that you might not want to. Hope you get to a better place soon. ((()))

My DM is moving house this Fri. The plan was to help her pack up this week. I had all 4 dcs off school yesterday and will have 3 off today and tomorrow anyway because of the voting. (Still undecided!)

We've got colds, temperatures, stomach ache, nausea, and conjunctivitis between the 4 of them! And dp away as usual.

Hells bells......

PeonyStick · 06/05/2015 07:52

Hello to all - not many will know me , i havent bootcamped for a while . I started the last one, but fell after a couple of weeks . I have a stone of carb creep ( carb tsunami in fact ) to lose .
crabby - i cant bear to miss a single recipe - are you blogging at the moment. ?
sass thankyou for weight explanation - i cant say i ever go to failure in body-pump ( perhaps i need to go up weight)
Starting BC today - and saying a fond farewell to my plymouth gin for two weeks . Dairy has been my downfall in previous BC's ( too easy for me to eat a lot of cheese and huge amounts of FF yog ) so - going to try.... stunt , trash - following your lead .

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 06/05/2015 08:06

Darn, posted all this on the wrong thread so will c&p it...

Checking in :)

Need to look into doing some exercise here. I do swim every so often, but wanted to do more, as i dont walk. Found some exercises on the saga website that i might try Grin

Oh and something in the last few days has disagreed with me again, i'm like a balloon. Have to look back through my diary and try to find out what...?

SayraT · 06/05/2015 08:14

Spectacularly fell off the wagon yesterday lunch time, we had an all day powercut and I couldn't prepare the lunch I'd had planned.

Made up for it at dinner: avocado, mozzarella drizzled swimming in olive oil, cucumber ham and Philly rolls again. Obviously the fact that I keep slipping up is doubly horrendous because eating high fat and not low carb is not conducive to weight loss. I weighed myself this morning and Ive put back on 2 of the 3 pounds I've lost this last week. I've learned my lesson, I'm going to aim to have leftovers at lunch time to prevent straying.

On the plus side DH keeps asking when we can have cauli rice again.
