We filled up the last thread and we still have 3 weeks to go until the next official BC so here is our new inbetween BC thread.

So, I was good yesterday and now all of my confessions are lost on the previous thread Grin but I am going to carry on with daily weighing and food recording so this morning I weighed 225 lbs.

dark

Do you crave sausage rolls/car by things?
Do you feel that life is too friggin hard to throw in restricting certain foods as well?
Do you feel good while you are eating them?
Do you feel bad after?
Do you get annoyed at yourself for keep cheating? Does that make you do it more? As in 'fuck it, might as well get hung for a sheep as a lamb'

Feel free to ignore. Just thought I might be able to unpick for you. Thanks

Hi, I have been shamelessly lurking on this and am signing up for BC on the 11th and I have a question - I currently eat Waitrose strained FF greek yogurt for breakfast every morning - and I notice on here people are adding cream to the yogurt, now is this beneficial? should I do it? Currently I have the yogurt at desk at work between 8:30 and 9am and am totally full till lunch (I drink one half litre bottle between breakfast and lunch and am not hungry till about 12:30pm - What does the cream do? thanks xoxo

It gets more fat on board and tastes nice. Also generally cream is lower in carbs than yoghurt so if I have 50g + 50g cream that's lowerin carbs than 100g yoghurt but if it's working for you I'd stick with it. X

minibmw2010 · 28/04/2015 09:58

The4cs, I've found strips of courgette cooked in butter a really good alternative to spaghetti. I've had it with bolognaise a few times. Plus cauliflower rice is actually quite nice and makes a good alternative for normal rice. ??

plumstone · 28/04/2015 09:58

Thanks Gclgske. xx

nappyaddict · 28/04/2015 10:02

with things like joints of meat we just have lots of veg. sometimes i might do swede or cauli mash or swede or green bean "fries" but not always.

with curry i sometimes do cauli rice or i coat florets of cauli and broccoli in curry powder and oil and roast. i add lots of veg to my curry so sometimes i just have a bowl of curry on it's own.

bolognese/chilli i do courgette ribbons, cauli rice or stuff peppers, courgettes and mushrooms with it.

italian meatballs with courgette ribbons, swedish meatballs with swede or cauli mash, thai or meatballs or kofte with cauli rice.

burgers we have salad, coleslaw, cheese, bacon, an egg, a flat mushroom, roasted tomatoes, sometimes swede or green bean fries.

TheHappyCamper · 28/04/2015 10:05

I am trying not to try and replace the carbs in many ways. I'm trying to break away from the mind set that we need carbs with a meal. So we had a chicken kiev with sautéed veg in butter, we had chilli in an ovenproof bowl with cheese melted on and sour cream on top, broccoli on the side, I did similar with meatballs. We had Thai red curry with steamed asparagus, baby corn and broccoli to dip in. The only concession to carbs I have made so far is a poppadum which was 3g carbs to dip in my curry a couple of times.

You can buy LC rice and noodles from Holland & Barrett but I'm not sure what they're like!

DramaAlpaca · 28/04/2015 10:08

mini I tried courgette strips as an alternative to spaghetti last night. I steamed them for three minutes then served them smothered in butter. It was lovely & meant I could have DH's lovely (low carb) bolognese sauce. I also threw lots of parmesan shavings on the top.

Gcalgske · 28/04/2015 10:19

Happy I do that too! If I serve bolognaise on a plate I'm looking for the spaghetti but if I put it in a bowl with lots of cheese on top I eat it with a spoon and don't miss it so much.

BabsUnited · 28/04/2015 10:25

hi all

Found out this morning I am pregnant! Were sort of trying so not a huge surprise but has happened much quicker than would be ideal. Still, never mind!

I had a quick google of 'can I eat low carb while pregnant' and most resources say no. I'm not going to take this too literally but I think I am going to change my diet to reintroduce things like porridge and maybe the odd banana - basically not be so strict. And take myself out of ketosis as I've read this isn't a good state to be in while pg. I won't have bread but may have a small amount of pasta. I know it's not boot camp or even bc-lite but this will be a high risk pregnancy as DS was born prematurely so I want to be 100% sure I'm doing everything I can and eating the healthiest way I can. I have now kicked the crisps/chocolate cycle so already have a much better diet than for the last decade!

As a result I might bow out of the thread for the time being. Good luck to all and thanks for all the help! Flowers

BabyGiraffeOnIce · 28/04/2015 10:47

I'm with happy on this one.

I'm not missing carbs as I'm not trying to replace them.

  • fajhitas, I have the filling with salad and lots of soured cream. its plenty.
  • steak, sauteed mangetout, asparagus, mushroom cream is filling enough.
  • burgers topped with cheese (mozarella and cheddar mix) salad, mushrooms.

its all more than filling if you have enough fat in there i believe. dp is having sweet potato wedges to bulk his up a bit but other than that i think planning is mainly key.

BabyGiraffeOnIce · 28/04/2015 10:49

and congratulations babs good luck with the pregnancy if we don't hear from you for a while.

hope to hear back from you when baby is here Smile

DramaAlpaca · 28/04/2015 11:00

Babs many congrats on your pregnancy! Wishing you all the best Flowers

Dumdedumdedum · 28/04/2015 11:14

Babs - many congratulations from me, too FlowersFlowersFlowers

Dumdedumdedum · 28/04/2015 11:24

Good day, all! So, at the end of two weeks attempting the LCBC, I have lost 6lbs overall (it was 8lbs after 8 days but something odd happened!). Good start, I'd say! I am learning and finding the recipes in India Knight's book about being a pig very helpful and tasty.

I had a crap day yesterday for a particular, ridiculous reason to do with banks, but I ate reasonably well on the LC front. Today, I'm off kilter and a bit tearful as it is my only child's 20th birthday and she is thousands of miles away celebrating it by presenting a uni radio music show for the first time Grin (where's the proud mum emoticon?). My lovely husband is taking me out to dinner at a favourite steak restaurant and I should be OK as long as I send their gorgeous fresh bread away and ask them to substitute the potatoes with salad.. I shall, however, be toasting our daughter in Champagne!

I agree, it is good to know this thread is here and congratulations to everyone who keeps on keeping on (when I first came on here I wondered why everyone was doing a Precious Ramotswe, KOKO'ing all over the placeWink) and thanks to everyone for your advice and support.

Have a lovely rest of the day!

Fatstacks · 28/04/2015 12:42

Congratulations Babs pop in and update us. Flowers and because you can have a teeny bit Cake Grin

HemanOrSheRa · 28/04/2015 12:47

Congratulations Babs!

The4C's Cauli rice fried in coconut oil is completely delicious. I'm addicted to it. When I first tried it with a curry I thought there was no way it was going to fill me up but it really does.

I am sat at my work desk. I work with older people and one of my colleagues is having a Fish and Chip lunch with some of our service users. Arrrggghhh! It smells delicious. She keeps popping her head in asking me if I want a chip butty. I've said no thank you very firmly but I might have to leave soon and find something to do elsewhere!

StuntNun · 28/04/2015 13:26

Welcome 4Cs. Are you eating this way for weight loss? If so the fruit will hold you back but if you don't want to lose weight or you just want to ease into things then it's fine. I like to have curry with steamed cabbage with butter added. I love courgettes but I'm not a big fan of courgetti so I have bolognese with mushrooms fried in butter. Chicken kievs with veg and more veg would do it for me. Otherwise celeriac dauphinoise or mashed swede are good alternatives to spuds.

Congratulations on your big news Babs. I stayed low carb (ish) through my last pregnancy but ate a bit more carbs than usual to stay out of ketosis. The reason low carb isn't recommended in pregnancy is that there isn't any evidence that it's safe and also no evidence that it isn't safe. A lot of people have done it though and there are a few blogs out there. You may find that porridge and pasta set off carb cravings and ruin things for you but the odd banana or other fruit, potatoes, rice etc. might be better options.

BabsUnited · 28/04/2015 13:32

thanks for all the congrats!! Now need to go and read up on all the dos and don'ts - am sure they'll have changed since 3 years ago. I have to eat all the stuff I have in the fridge though, which includes parma ham. It was expensive and don't want to throw it away Hmm

BabsUnited · 28/04/2015 13:41

ah thanks stunt, i will take on board your suggestions. You might well be right with the porridge and pasta setting off carb cravings. It's just I'm going to Italy soon on hols and if I'm not going to be having all the lovely cured meats then I am definitely going to be having some pasta. I will however avoid all alcohol and pizza well maybe one bite of pizza

I also wanted to add briefly to the discussion about what to have 'instead' of carbs. Like others I had tried to avoid falling into the habit of having to have a carb replacement, but I found a half way house and a really good way of getting more veg was to add finely shredded lettuce as a side dish to lots of things. I had some as a side for a thai curry the other night and it was surprisingly delicious. Cool and crisp to counter hte heat of the curry and the textures really worked well. Plus it's a good vehicle for drizzling a little extra oil if you've not had much fat.

A big filling side salad is the perfect replacement for the bulk of carbs I've found. Recently we got takeaway burgers (not McD, proper ones from a decent burger place in London) and they don't do bespoke orders so when it arrived I just gave DH the buns and ate the big juicy burger with cheese - and I'd fried myself an egg to add and had a big side salad with a dressing made of olive oil/white wine vinegar (50:50) with finely chopped shallots and a chopped anchovy fillet. Just with lettuce, cucumber and tomato. I couldn't believe it but the salad was actually nicer than the burger!!!

nappyaddict · 28/04/2015 13:46

What do people have with egg mayo? i had 3 eggs worth with salad but the salad seemed to dilute the richness of the egg mayo.

DarkEvilMoon · 28/04/2015 13:59

I like to make ham and egg mayo rolls nappy not idea for a meal but great for a very filling quick snack. take slice of ham usually the pre package slices here which are used in ds' lunch box , put a line of egg mayo in the middle, roll the ham around it and eat whilst trying not to spill the mayo from the other end of the tube.
Also eat it off a spoon.

Sorry I went back to bed earlier and slept, will return to your questions and attempt to answer them sass they raised thinking points I hadn't considered.
