The inbetween BC BC for those who didn't do as well as they should on the real BC

SayraT · 06/04/2015 18:41

Ok, some of us (me) didn't do very well on the real actual BC and some others just feel the need to have a little extra push before the next real BC so this is our inbetween BC BC Grin

I'll start, I'm currently 222 lb and want to be 217 lb by the start of the real BC (11th May). I will be recording my food daily to keep on track, I am also going to weigh daily.

Food

B: Flax wrap with butter, coffee with cream
L: M&S salad, ff yog
S: S&V peanuts (none left now so I'll have normal nuts or none at all)
D: Cauli-rice with hot smoked salmon

My blog is here

Sorry, I am pretty new to blogging and I'm not entirely sure how it all works - but the idea is that I blog about low carb meals that are easy for daily, family life.

BIWI · 11/04/2015 20:14

If that link doesn't work, it's WordPress.com, and it's dailylowcarblife

TimeToGetUp · 11/04/2015 20:17

I keep reading these threads, can I ask some stupid questions?

The meals always seem healthy, but are these 'diets' healthy for the whole family?

How do you lose weight this way? I think I get it after reading up, but how do you stop? People seem to be eating until they are full, but still losing.

I'm probably missing the point somewhere Confused

Romeyroo · 11/04/2015 20:21

Time, I think once you are at goal weight, you move to maintenance where you can have more things to eat? I also know from experience that at almost goal the weight comes off MUCH slower - I have been at the same weight for about five weeks with low carving, but eating till I feel full. I am going to do this BC and then start maintenance.

Romeyroo · 11/04/2015 20:25

Low carbing I mean.

Since starting six months ago, I have moved DC on to only complex carbs, no white bread pasta etc; much less sugar, not buying fruits like grapes but ones with fewer carbs and so on. I think it is healthier, but they still eat a wide variety of foods (as do I)

DramaAlpaca · 11/04/2015 20:28

BIWI your blog recipes look great. I'm going to do the Sausages with Roasted Vegetables for dinner one day next week. I don't think I can get the Black Farmer sausages here (not UK) but I'm sure I can find something similar.

I put my food intake into MyFitnessPal today to see how I was doing. The thing that stood out most to me is that the breakfast protein shakes will have to go - they are much too carby. Dammit. It means I'll have to get up early enough to have a proper breakfast.

BIWI · 11/04/2015 20:29

Time yes, eating a low(er) carb diet is a much healthier way to eat. A high carb diet is associated not only with obesity, but also diabetes, hypertension, cancer and Alzheimer's disease.

We do not need a diet full of refined carbs. We need carbs, but we can get those more than adequately from vegetables and salad. We also need fat.

It's a total fallacy that eating fat makes you fat.

And in terms of losing weight, you lose weight on this way of eating (WOE - it's not really a 'diet') because you switch your body to burning fat rather than carbs - and your body uses the fat that it has stored.

Once you reach a weight that you are happy with, you can increase your carbs again (albeit slowly/in moderation - after all, it's the carbs that made you fat in the first place!)

It's a very satisfying way to eat, because the amount of fat and protein that we eat means that you are never hungry - and there's also a calorie advantage. A high fat diet compared with a high carb diet means you can actually consume more calories but still lose weight.

Evening All!

I have coconut oil! At last! I couldn't get any in the supermarkets, they were sold out. I shall test out a BPC tomorrow.

Food today:

Very late brunch/lunch - bacon, 1 scrambled egg, 1/2 tom, mushrooms, kale cooked in oil/butter/ bacon fat. 1/2 avocado.

I ate pretty late so had a snacky plate at 4 - chicken, mayo, celery and cue.

D - pulled pork with a sprinkle of cheese on top, large dressed salad and uber camp coleslaw.

2 black coffees and at least 2l of water. I have a 0.6l water bottle. I have had 4 of those with 2 tumblers of water as well.

Does anyone have any tips for cold drinks? I was thinking of making up a strong fruit tea and using that as a squash/cordial with soda water.

Is it me or is this a much cheaper way of eating? I've spent much less on food over the last few days. Maybe I spent more on treats than I realised Confused. I haven't had to go to the shops as often for stuff like bread/milk either. Probably because I'm not troughing slices of white toast and butter Blush.

trashcanjunkie · 11/04/2015 21:11

I think it can be a much cheaper way of eating. Have you noticed that you only ever go round the outside of the supermarket aisles too? Grin

I've had a balls up concerning Easter egg and flatbread. What a nob.
Everything else still on track.

Am stressing a bit as I don't think I've got enough direct relevant experience to get onto the course I want. I'm still ploughing on, but think I may have to wait another year, and gain more experience, perhaps do an access course.

Had head in books all bliddy day now, and can't stop.

Dp made fish curry for tea, but is poorly and that made him do being stupid. He bought reduced fat coconut milk, the tit. He also bought some questionable ingredients imo. Bean sprouts and mushrooms are not required! Still, I didn't complain, as he did all the tidying up after being out all day helping someone do lifting furniture from their dead granny's empty flat, and as we are all aware I've sat on my arse studying with intermittent mnetting Grin

Gcalgske · 11/04/2015 22:09

Nappy you can make pesto without nuts, I do it when I run out. It's fine, not as creamy. You can add some cooked courgette - it makes it very creamy. I do that with sauces and soups for my daughter who can't have dairy.
Hope you got something from the Chinese takeaway - very much depends on your take away, I have a local one who cook everything from scratch and will cook without sugar /cornflour for me. They make some lovely Thai salads with sharp dressings and shredded meat, dry ribs, chicken wings, stir fry without thickened sauces, stir fried veg (bean sprouts, bok choi, Chinese leaf, bamboo shoots, broccoli, cauliflower, mushrooms, etc). One meal of more 'normal' Chinese won't kill you but could knock you out of ketosis and spark cravings as they do tend to be full of sugar.

BabsUnited · 11/04/2015 23:06

How do you know if you're in ketosis?

BIWI · 11/04/2015 23:28

You will have a much reduced appetite. You may also find that you are experiencing (temporarily) bad breath, and have a funny taste in your mouth. But most of all, you will be losing weight!

Gcalgske · 12/04/2015 00:42

Today's food:
B: BPC
L: no pizza pizza (chicken, pepper, jalapeño, mozzarella)
S: 30g spiced almonds
D: big 1/4 burger with bacon and cheddar, hm coleslaw, salad, Mayo, two fat bomb truffles.

LexLoofah · 12/04/2015 02:27

nappy when I make pesto I also add fresh spinach to bulk it out a bit and can do nuts or no nuts, if doing nuts I use walnuts. I don't add cheese to the pesto as always like to grate fresh over the dish at the end Instead. I always add garlic, lemon juice and EVOO

It freezes great in those little silicone baking moulds so you can make loads and freeze In portions, your idea of baked chicken cheesy pesto sound great, I am going to have pesto on salmon next week I think

heman the dill pickles I get are v low carb, thinking of making my own as can get small cukes and have been saving the jars - getting through a jar a we, if I didnt know better I would say I was preggers!

LexLoofah · 12/04/2015 02:34

'we' should read 'week' gah!
Can't wait to have thin fingers Smile

trash your story of the beach is priceless, thanks for sharing

b - bacon and eggs, cuppa, coffee and cream
l - egg bacon hm mayo salad on water cress, radish, cuppa, 2 choc almonds
d - made the slow cooker coconut ginger pork from the recipe thread, bloody lovely, served over cabbage sauted in butter, loads of delicious soft shredded pork left for the coming days

Romeyroo · 12/04/2015 09:43

Agree about the much reduced appetite - really glad to know that I can have a late lunch if needs be without ending up with a headache! Ditto breakfast.

gcalske funny, I bought the magazine in Holland and Barrat the other day and there was an article about low carbing and PCOS - not had a chance to read the rest of the magazine, but there was some no sugar diet stuff as well.

Down a pound the last couple of days, hoping it stays off. Measurements are the same - though I realised that since I started this, or at least since I measured my thighs somewhere near when I started, I have lost 5.5 inches off the top of each one Shock. I am trying to imagine that - thighs are the bit of me I am still not liking, though, I still look bottom heavy. How do I accept this is just the way I am??

trashcanjunkie · 12/04/2015 13:24

lex Grin I had a smile from ear to ear!

Scales sts as yesterday, which I'm delighted with.

Dp is off the wagon with some beers. He put on seven pounds over Easter, then nearly cried. I was trying to explain the glycogen stores refilling, but could see he wasn't listening. Then one day after he'd gone down three pounds, so had a gain of four over all. On the strength of that he's decided to have beer today, as he's back to work after ten days off tomorrow. I have warned him he will feel like utter shit, which is fine, as long as he keeps in his mind that is why, and doesn't go mental searching for other reasons, or gets on my nerves behaving like a tortured soul.

Had brunch, bacon, bfd sausage, fried eggs and mushy's. Cup of tea with double cream.

Dinner is gonna be roast pork shoulder with a massive wedge of crackling. Veg is broc stems and asparagus.

Gcalgske · 12/04/2015 13:47

Late pm snack: one babybell and three slices Parma ham

Today so far:
B: Parma ham and slice Gouda and cucumber
L: smoked mackerel fillet, cucumber, babybell
D: will be slow roasted pork with cracking (same as trashcan) with a celeriac gratin and broccoli

Smile
BIWI · 12/04/2015 14:48

Babs - just be aware, there's quite a bit of processed meat/fish in those menus. You need to cut that out a bit if you can.

BabsUnited · 12/04/2015 15:10

Ok biwi. Processed includes the Parma ham and cheese?

BabsUnited · 12/04/2015 15:11

Is my dinner ok? Roast pork with celeriac gratin (with cream and garlic) and steamed and buttered broccoli?

trashcanjunkie · 12/04/2015 15:28

Ooh we've got celeriac. Might also do gratin. Yes babs your dinner is fine. Although I will have to be very careful with how much gratin I eat.

nappyaddict · 12/04/2015 15:42

gcalske what is the faux pizza express dressing?

nappyaddict · 12/04/2015 15:48

gcalske Also fat bomb truffles?
