Week 3 - Low Carb Bootcamp - Where We Have a Decision to Make!

BIWI · 02/02/2015 07:40

Morning all.

Here's the link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

So we've finished Bootcamp! Well done all Flowers or at least to all those who are still with us Grin

Now you have a decision to make. You can move on to Bootcamp Light, if you wish, which is more relaxed (to a degree). The rules are on the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet - sorry, I don't have time to copy/paste this morning as I have to get off to work about 10 minutes ago.

But essentially it means that you can introduce nuts and berries - in moderation. You no longer have to have three meals a day. If you're not hungry, then it's fine to skip a meal - as long as you don't then dive into a pile of carbs when you get hungry! And you can have alcohol - again, in moderation.

If you're happy with the stricter Bootcamp then by all means stay on that, but please, please, please make sure that your carbs are coming from vegetables and salad. It's important that you get nutrition from these.

Or you can, if you like, do Bootcamp at the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

However

There is also something else you need to prepare for, and that is the dreaded weeks 3 and 4 slowdown!

It's something that lots of people experience. The weight loss suddenly stops, for no apparent reason. If this happens, don't worry and don't panic that you're doing anything wrong (assuming that you're not, of course Wink), just keep on keeping on, and it will get going again - albeit at a slower rate.

From here on, you should be expecting to see a loss of 1-2lbs a week.

Good luck everyone!

Thanks Chipping! That's the plan, actually damn it that is what will happen Grin

ChippingInGluggingOn · 04/02/2015 14:09

I'll be checking in later Notso!

(Be careful though, if you aren't well, don't push yourself too hard)

imustbepatient · 04/02/2015 14:17

Just thought of another motivation (given how many I have I am wondering why this weight loss malarkey has taken me so long...).

I am determined to lose the baby weight gained from DD1 before she starts school this September

miffy49 · 04/02/2015 14:18

Its a bummer isn't it Charlie. Sad I think its just that, with our health issues, we have more going on than most and that makes our bodies afraid to let go of any more fat.

I can relate to your story as my health started to go downhill in 1998. I had a little remission only to be hit hard again in 2001. I went through a very low patch where I was a spiteful cow kicking at life and everyone in it for taking my career, my income, my independance and my self respect. I eventually got my head round it (big sighs of relief from family!) but got absolutely nowhere with mobility or weight and was falling fast into type 2. I got the big shock in 2011 when I saw a photograph of myself at a special reception DH and I attended in London. It scared me silly as it was like looking at my gran (short and round with massively swollen feet). Even in a photo you could see that my skin was dull and my hair was lank. Given that my poor gran was only in her early 50s when she died I decided I had to do something. On diabetes.co.uk they were all raving about low carb so I decided I'd nothing to lose and basically I haven't looked back.

I lost three and a half stones before I stuck. I tried a foray into 5;2 when it hit the headlines and basically put back about 7lbs which I now can't shift. I can only agree with Biwi when she says to think about more than the actual weight. Other things matter more.

I have my BG back in the normal range.
My skin and hair are better than they've been in years.
I have exercised slowly and have improved my strength and mobility.
My energy levels are better than they have been since 1998.
My brain clarity is far better.

The only thing it doesn't seem to have helped is my balance and co-ordination but, even so, having listened to Stunt and Biwi and some of the others here I have decided just to try and chill out over the weight issues and be grateful for the rest! At least now if I fall over I'm not worried that they will send a crane rather than an ambulance! Grin

Just take a step back and take stock before you think about chucking it all in. It does get hard when others are shifting heaps of food, going off on the razzle, eating dairy and still sign on with massive losses. Our patience has to pay off one day! Grin

Thumbwitch · 04/02/2015 14:32

Chipping - back for 3 1/2 weeks, give or take. And I won't listen to you about the crime creme eggs, because other people have said they do taste different and I'm abstaining on principle because Kraft shouldn't ha' messed with them anyway.

Thanks for anyone struggling with any issues at the moment - I've read some but not all and I have to be quick because DS2 is stirring and could wake at any moment, so I need to go to bed:

B - cheese slice
L - leftover fried salmon, mixed with butter-fried mushrooms and courgette with garlic salt and then a couple of eggs and some cheddar cheese mixed in. Not my best idea! Not sure if it was the scrambled eggs or the salmon that didn't go, but it was ok.
D - sausages and mash (swede and celeriac) with oodles of broccoli and a few carrots
And then my shame: I had a mini Boost (you know, from a box of Celebrations or whatever they're called). I was just ^hanging for something, I don't know why, but it did the trick - fixed up the craving and I didn't need anything else. I'm not doing it again though, if I can avoid it.

Right, I hear whimpering...

ChippingInGluggingOn · 04/02/2015 14:38

Thumb. Yeah, Kraft are bastards, crime eggs are evil Grin

Give me a shout if you get down my neck of the woods and have time for a weekend away coffee/drink :)

Lunch sounds like it should have been nice, I think it was more likely the cheese that wasn't 'quite right' in all of that.

Surprised you can hear me from there...

Oh DS, yes, of course!

ChippingInGluggingOn · 04/02/2015 14:42

Imustbe. You have lots of 'reasons', they're not the same as motivation. I have a hundred reasons why I should/want to lose weight, eat better etc. but I only have one motivation 'to reduce my risk of diabetic complications'.

Find your motivation, not your list of reasons, it makes a massive difference.

Miffy :(. :) Flowers

CharlieSierra · 04/02/2015 14:44

Chipping I quite like the breakfast muffins, as long as they contain cheese Smile I've not tried the cloud rolls, but I will - people say they go sticky though - which has put me off

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 04/02/2015 14:45

Lunch - chicken, avocado and olives in my hm mayo
Dinner will be sausages and something.

CharlieSierra · 04/02/2015 14:47

Miffy Flowers you are spot on!

It does get hard when others are shifting heaps of food, going off on the razzle, eating dairy and still sign on with massive losses

ChesterDrawers · 04/02/2015 14:51

IMust I'm also 40 next year and want to look fab when I get there. Plus I'm still carrying pregnancy donut addiction baby weight from DS who also starts school in September - are you me?

Notso · 04/02/2015 14:55

Shred done chipping Grin it actually wasn't as bad as I thought! Thanks for the motivation.

ChippingInGluggingOn · 04/02/2015 15:05

TODAY'S COFFEE INSULIN SPIKE TEST

Which is by no means comprehensive Grin

BG before bed 7.3
BG at 1am (not slept) 7.7
BG at 3am (still not slept) 7.8
BG at 4:30am (still not slept) 6.9
BG at 8am (3hrs sleep) 7.1
BG at 11:30am (no food etc) 8
BG at 12:30pm (still no food) 7.3

Coffee with lots of cream.

BG at 2pm 7.1
BG at 3pm 7.1

Verdict. No spiking with coffee and cream :)

Today.

ChippingInGluggingOn · 04/02/2015 15:12

Charlie. Whack some cheese in then if it stops you going on a rampage from avocado over dosing! Grin

I don't eat egg, so I haven't made the cloud rolls...worth a go though, you might like them. It probably depends how long you cook them for & how you store them whether they go sticky or not?

It does get hard when others are shifting heaps of food, going off on the razzle, eating dairy and still sign on with massive losses

Yes, it is hard and that FFS it's NOT FAIR!. Is a natural response, but there are also lots of us in that situation, we each have to remember it's not only us. I guess we all have previous medical history that makes our bodies less willing to give the fat up. Do it and lose slowly or don't do it and gain, I feel, are my choices.

Notso. Flowers. Well done! I am very impressed.

Also very late for work...got to run!

lurkingmurking · 04/02/2015 15:28

Well done Notso I will shred tonight in your honour!

Amaxapax · 04/02/2015 16:01

I tried the tip someone posted a while back about doing swede in the microwave, and it worked! It was so easy and I also thought it tasted loads better than when I cut it into chunks and boiled it. I mashed it up with lots of butter and it was amazingly delicious. I thought it tasted a bit like buttery corn. I also made the doner kebab fakeaway that someone posted about, and it was delicious as well! Loving this thread for all the great dinner ideas.

I'm feeling a bit down this afternoon. I should be 24 weeks pregnant and, of course, I'm not. A friend I work with is about 28 weeks, though, and occasionally I just feel sad and frustrated that it isn't me and that I can't even TTC for another two months at least. I hope that this WOE means that, when we can TTC, I'll be in great health and everything will happen quickly. But that feels a long way away right now, and of course there's always the risk of things going wrong again. In any case, that final goal is keeping me motivated, so I'll just have to hope it works out.

B: Three hb eggs in mayo
L: Chicken, avocado, salad, cucumber in mayo, cheese sticks, mini peperami
D: Sausages, swede mash, courgette or broccoli

lurkingmurking · 04/02/2015 16:22

I just did a video conference for work - I had cheekbones!

ChippingInGluggingOn · 04/02/2015 16:37

Amaxapax. :(. . It's hard isn't it, especially when someone you see often is pregnant. Being as healthy as you can possibly be, certainly won't hurt will it x

Lurking. How fabulous!

lurkingmurking · 04/02/2015 16:45

Amaxapax big hug.

BitchyTakesOnManagement · 04/02/2015 16:49

We have almond milk in (i think) but I now I can get that in the corner shop, would have to leave the village for coconut cream. I will look into it. Thanks Beyond.

PseudoBadger · 04/02/2015 16:49

Help please! Been up since 4, at work since 7.30. It's been so crazy that all I've eaten is Total and an avocado. I need to grab something now before going home to face puking DS. What shall I eat? Might have to be peanuts...

BitchyTakesOnManagement · 04/02/2015 16:51

And thanks for your recipe Sayra

Amaxapax · 04/02/2015 17:05

Thanks chipping and lurking.

Nice one on the cheekbones, lurking!

ChippingInGluggingOn · 04/02/2015 17:24

Pseudo. I'm probably too late & depends what you have access to?! Ready to go salad & tin of tuna, macadamias, almonds. Pre sliced cheese & ham?

I hope DS is better soon!

LexLoofah · 04/02/2015 17:54

lurking that must feel so good, brilliant

Bit of a headache and fogginess today, drinking lots though and had a hot marmite so easing off now

B - 3 scrambled eggs (too many, didn't finish), half avo and 2 slices crispy prosciutto, prefer this to bacon and it seems to be just as suitable so will eat more of this, could fry the lot and keep in the fridge for snacks and crumbling over salads. Daily cup of tea

L - Cold roasted mushrooms, courgettes, shallot, aubergine, roast chicken thigh, half a hb egg, 1 slice turkey bacon - a sort of use up things in the fridge meal. Roasted veg was lovely, could eat a plateful of that.

D - planning a sort of kedgeree with cauli rice, kippers or mackerel and now perfected soft boiled eggs and collard greens on the side
