Evening everyone. I hope you're all ready, prepared and raring to go!

Here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness:

for you to enter your starting weight

Have a good look at the tabs at the bottom, as there you will find the rules, the list of allowed veg and lots of other really useful information.

I've also started the questions thread , so if you have anything you need to ask, that's the best place to ask it. The chat threads move really quickly in the first weeks, so this thread is the best place to ask your questions.

And this time around, I thought it might be useful to have a thread to post about good/interesting low carb products that you come across:

Here

Good luck!

Tesco mascarpone has 3.5 grams of carbs per 100. Sounds ok to me.

RandomHouseRules · 21/01/2015 21:28

Evening all. Checking in and feeling FULL
b: egg, spinach, mushroom muffins with mayo
L: salad with avocado, chicken and a bit of waitress crispy bacon
D: chicken with a pesto topping (thanks BIWI), with roasted green pepper, broccoli and baby corn. And more Mayo.
S: 1 slice of Edam.

Think I have done much better with water but I am no good at counting! Having a camomile tea now to warm me up. DH has carb (man) flu and is feeling very sorry for himself. I seem to be escaping so far but no doubt will get it badly tomorrow as penance for being smug today!

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 21/01/2015 21:31

Clotted cream (on its own) is a favourite of mine :)

Snack now of chicken pieces, olives and a slice of cheese. Fancying a gnt so had some sparkling water with a tiny squirt of lemon and lime. Not the same, but quite nice.

lurkingmurking · 21/01/2015 21:39

Nom!!

BIWI · 21/01/2015 21:46

alma - after a few days you should find that your appetite is more under control. But for now, just go with it. If you're hungry, then you must eat - as long is it's low carb obviously!

Just had yummy parmesan crisps. I put piles of parmesan on a greased sheet of non stick baking paper. Cook in a hot oven for 6 mins or so. They go from lush to burnt in a nano sec so you need to keep your eye on them.

Really tasty and easy and satisfied my need for a crunch.

TheGrinchWearsStripes · 21/01/2015 22:06

Today's menu:

B bacon and mushrooms fried in coconut oil
L veg soup with a slosh of cream, kale crisps
D chicken stuffed courgette boats

DH wasn't impressed with the LC dinner I think, found him chomping on a sandwich later! (He is svelte, despite bacon sandwiches, pork pies and chips. Hmm )

Almahart · 21/01/2015 22:08

Thanks BIWI, that's reassuring

AlphaBravoHenryFoxtons · 21/01/2015 22:18

I hade a third of a tub of bought coleslaw which was 4.8g of carbs per 100g. I guess I had about 100g (as it is a 300g tub).

B Coffee with cream, 5 slices of Milano salami
L Salmon drizzled with olive oil, swede mashed with butter, broccoli
D Salmon drizzled with olive oil, swede mashed with butter, broccoli and a big blob of bought coleslaw as I fancied a little change.

Haven't done very well on the water today as very busy day.

How many g of carbs are there in a scant slug of milk for a cup of tea or coffee? I need to know that.

prettybird · 21/01/2015 22:22

Meant to mention: the Toulouse sausages I had (Tesco Finest) were only 0.1g carbs for 2 sausages. Smile

Very nice they were too! Grin

BIWI · 21/01/2015 22:27

In 100ml of semi-skimmed milk there are 4.8g carbs - obviously this is more than a 'scant slug'!

If you really need to know, then next time why not measure out your milk?

OP posts:
AlphaBravoHenryFoxtons · 21/01/2015 22:34

BIWI - Ah thank you for telling me. I think I only have about 10-15ml per cup but I'll measure more accurately tomorrow and probably limit it to just the one cup in the morning as I can see the carbs add up.

Does caffeine stall people?

AlphaBravoHenryFoxtons · 21/01/2015 22:35

Prettybird - Oooh sound nice. I'll look out for those. Thank you.

MindfulBear · 21/01/2015 23:27

oooooh, hello hello! so sorry I am late!
CanI join please? started at 82kgs at Christmas and now down to 79kg.... another 14 to go Smile

low carbing is one of the easiest ways of losing weight for me. Is it possible to combine it with 5:2? I just find it easier to do it that way so I can still have a few drinks at the weekend...........

Good luck everyone!

lavenderhoney · 21/01/2015 23:56

I managed another run today which is good and helps with feeling better/ keeping away from garlic bread:)

B- 2 egg omlette with left over cabbage and a slice of bacon cooked in butter l- nothing as running
Snack - babybel cheese and 2 olives
D- meatballs and salad. Dc had pasta with theirs and tomato and basil sauce. And garlic bread. Again, had to make myself eat.

Loads of water, 2 cups coffee with cream.

LexLoofah · 22/01/2015 02:04

Well we are almost out of veg and salad, severely underestimated how much we would eat, usually throw out the odd bit at the end of the week, think those days are gone now, oh and emptying the compost bucket twice a day some days -wow

Brekkie and lunch - repeat from prior days

Dinner- ham, poached eggs, cabbage and hollandaise sauce - could not finish it and now having a cup of mint tea to get rid of that greasy mouth feeling, was delish just very rich

This evening I have made kale chips and a jug of mint and cucumber water to keep in the fridge

Week 1 - January Low Carb Bootcamp: and we're off!
Thumbwitch · 22/01/2015 03:14

I'm beginning to think I must be abnormal!

I can eat fat/protein meals without any problem, and quite large quantities; and then feel hungry again a couple of hours later. But maybe this relates to mt extreme difficulty in getting any breakfast in, I don't know.

B today was just a cup of fennel tea (bad, I know)
But I managed to go to the cinema with DS1, open some maltesers for him and not eat a single one Grin[proud]
L was a couple of ozs of cheddar and a new cunning idea - a stick of celery with my homemade fish paste smeared up it. Home made fishpaste is too easy - one small can of tuna, about 1/3 of a small block of Boursin, and a heavy dash of lemon juice then whizz together until smooth. It's LUSH - the boys love it on sandwiches, and I thought I'd see if it went well with celery - it does! Grin
D will be turkey thing again, I think, although I still have leftover salmon and swede-and-celeriac mash that I want to make into fritters.

I also have to make some meatballs with beef and turkey mince (separately, not together!), fresh herbs and cream cheese, with an egg of course. No flour/crumbs - hope they stick together well enough!

Romeyroo · 22/01/2015 05:54

On the subject of milk, I am still using Alpro unsweetened Almond milk, which I know is nuts, but has got 0.1g of carbs per 100g; I am allergic to diary though I seem to manage cheeses in small doses with minimal effects. DCs have got the lactofree milk as DC2 is lactose intolerant and I just checked the semi-skimmed version and it has 3.0g of carbs. Both are obviously more pricey than normal milk, but often on offer in supermarkets.

Thumbwitch, I am going to give your pate a go, it sounds lovely. I need to do a shop (I am reduced to nibbling on spinach leaves), so good to have some inspiration.

B is going to be a spinach and egg omelette
L - I will go to the salad bar at Morrisons on the way to work - I did that on Monday and it was fine.
D - No idea. Probably pasta and tomato sauce for DC and some left over veg medley for me. I am using wholewheat pasta for DC now, as this has less of an effect on DC2 (he goes hyper on white pasta, but it is one of his favourite meals).

BestIsWest · 22/01/2015 05:57

On the milk front, I use the lacto free milk which is 3.5 carbs per 100 in my tea. Life saver for me because it was not having milk in tea that made this woe difficult for me. I've got used to black tea but not first thing in the morning.

BestIsWest · 22/01/2015 05:59

Sorry, 3.0 not 3.5, cross posted with Romeyroo there.

ChesterDrawers · 22/01/2015 06:37

Morning losers Grin, feeling a bit under the weather this morning. Thought I'd escaped carb flu but apparently not. Was so hungry yesterday, nibbled the whole day through, and didn't make it out for my run as I was so cold.

Today's plan:

B: eggs, ghee
L: prawns, another disappointing avocado, salad, Mayo
D: spag bol, courgetti

Kettlebells later too.

ChesterDrawers · 22/01/2015 06:54

Oh yeah, anyone have any suggestions about what to do with lamb necks? They were on offer in Aldi, but I do t buy lamb very often so have no idea what to do with them. Help!

PseudoBadger · 22/01/2015 07:08

Morning all, checking in from the tube. Scrambled eggs with crispy bacon again this morning, and will have some total at about 10. No idea about lunch as I'm out on visits between 11 and 4. Salmon with pak choi and spring greens for dinner.

costababe · 22/01/2015 07:13

Good morning all, enjoying hearing your days food, some great ideas to knock! And quite sadisticly enjoyed the stick waving from BIWI, step away from temptation!
Mr Cista and I have removed the batteries from the scales so only weekly weigh ins allowed, I get extremely obsessed with daily weigh ins both before and after loo trips iykwim Blush
Yesterday's food
Breakfast was frittata with peppers and mushrooms
Lunch was 2 eggs in a cup with butter and a couple of baby bell
Snack two tablespoons of yoghurt
We went out for tapas, I struggled to find some choices but in the end had salad, pork ponchos, cheese plate and prawns and garlic mayo, all lovely.
Sparking water and still water, so def made the water quotaSmile

costababe · 22/01/2015 07:17

Bloody iPhone, sorry for typos, ideas to nick not knock
Pork pinchos , not ponchos, though in the cold weather that would be a fabulous LC coat/ fast food snackGrin
And off course Mr Costa, soon to be forever known as Me Cista!!
Have a good day all.
