Week 3 - Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp - the fork in the road ...

BIWI · 13/10/2014 07:39

Good morning! (not that there's much good about it, from what I can see out of the window ...)

So we're at the end of the first two weeks. Felt like forever, didn't it? Grin

Come and tell us how you got on on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

... or keep it to yourself on on the Weight Tracker

I hope that you have seen a good loss over these two weeks, because you do need to prepare yourself for the infamous weeks 3 and 4, where it is very, very, very, very common to see weight loss slow, stop or even reverse slightly

IF YOU FIND THIS IS HAPPENING, DON'T PANIC!

Keep calm and Bootcamp on ...

as we might say if we had our own posters Grin Just keep on keeping on, and things will start to move again very soon. However, the rate of loss will now - from here on - be at a more sustainable rate of 1-2lbs per week. (If you have a lot to lose it might be a bit more than this, but please don't expect to see massive losses every week - that way madness lies!)

And now you have a choice.

You can stay on Bootcamp if it suits you (but please promise me that you're getting your carbs from vegetables and salad), or you can move to Bootcamp Light, which means you can introduce a few berries and nuts/seeds, as well as re-introduce alcohol in moderation. Rules for Bootcamp Light are on the spreadsheet (look at the tabs at the bottom)

Or, you can do Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whatever you decide, I hope it goes well for you.

Flowers for all those still with us!

I didn't have enough to eat today as I was quite nervous about my seminar (not usually a nervous sort of person) so no breakfast. Then not enough at lunch so I did eat some biscuits, they were the only thing available and at that point I felt like I was going to pass out Shock

B: Coffee with cream
L: Slice of crustless quiche
D: Still to have
S: Three biscuits, boiled egg

BestIsWest · 16/10/2014 20:38

I was at a conference today and lunch was sandwiches, crisps and fruit. Great. I ended up picking the sandwiches apart and eating the centres plus some strawberries. Plus not much chance to drink water. And I missed my train home. Still DH had made me a lovely chicken salad with home made guacamole and pesto and I had some yoghurt and cream for dessert so I am happy now.

ClashCityRocker · 16/10/2014 21:00

Today's not been too bad, need to get some more water in me though.

Unfortunately, it's nearly payday so the cupboards need refilling. DH picked up tea tonight. I gave him strict instructions re low carb....

He came back with chicken kievs. Confused his excuse....'but they're Tescos Extra Special kievs'.....

Never mind, I picked the bread crumbs off and just had them like that with some broc.

Scrambled eggs for lunch.

aNoteToFollowSo · 16/10/2014 21:03

HOpe your presentation went well Sayra.

Thanks for that pasta link BIWI . I understand that cooling and then reheating the pasta minimizes its effects on blood sugar. But does anyone know by how much? How would cooled pasta then compare to a slice of bread, for example, on the glycaemic index ?

Today felt easy, perhaps because I ended up having so many eggs. Started the day with two boiled eggs and then ended up at a working lunch, and the only thing I could order was a three-cheese omlette. Dinner was bolognaise sauce and my first go at courgette noodles, which were delish.

Tomorrow I'm doing a bit of bootcamp light. Looking forward to the strawberries!

toomuchicecream · 16/10/2014 21:04

Evening all. Just short of 2lb off last week, which I was pleased with. Then DS was 18, so what with making biscuits, eating birthday cake and going out for a big family meal, 48 hours of total disaster snuck up on me. But he's only going to be 18 once. Today has been really, really, hard, sticking to strict bootcamp but I've done it. Apart from when I went shopping on the way back from work and ended up buying myself a couple of scotch eggs in Waitrose which were rather too high carb for comfort, but I knew that if I didn't have them, I'd end up falling spectacularly back off the wagon because I was sooo tired and hungry.

But I got on the scales this morning and discovered I'm up 5lbs since Monday. All my own fault. Have drunk at least 8 pints of water today and will be going for even more tomorrow, so hopefully the damage won't be so depressing by the time I get to next Monday.

ChesterDrawers · 16/10/2014 21:19

Shattered tonight, dying to go to bed but need to stay up a bit longer. Done ok today I think - too much dairy though.

B: eggs, butter, cream
L: broccoli and Stilton soup, pulled pork
D: chicken stuffed with Stilton wrapped in Parma ham, cauli mash, asparagus in butter

Still waiting for the scales to drop. Whoever is holding the whoosh fairy captive, just let her go and we'll say no more about it.

MoJangled · 16/10/2014 21:23

I must I must I must... get organised about breakfast. New job and new commute means I was speed-walking to the station chomping a stick of celery and a hunk of cheddar for the second time in a row today. Then googled the Pret veg soup I thought would be OK with 2 boiled eggs at lunchtime and discovered it was 9% carbs - eek - so abandoned halfway through. But lovely pork belly slices with broccoli and ratatouille for supper. Coffee with cream as a morning snack but I was feeling the lack of fat by suppertime.

Well done to the before and afterers upthread! Inspiring stuff.

Tanukisan · 16/10/2014 22:17

I feel completely invisible on this thread Sad

MoJangled · 16/10/2014 22:26

I see you Tanukisan ! But didn't feel qualified to critique your diet - am barely able to put my own together, and I can check in with how I'm feeling. If you're struggling to organise your meals, you could try what I do and keeping emergency stashes of babybells and peperami at work and at home for those oh crap I don't know what I can eat moments (although I ran out today) - disorganised is hard to shake...

Tanukisan · 16/10/2014 22:54

Thanks mo - sorry, just feeling a bit sorry for myself there!

Babybel and pepperami is a really good idea, though. Wish I had some on me right now (stuck at a station, nothing to eat at all and just want to be in bed).

ChesterDrawers · 17/10/2014 06:10

Seriously fucking oissed off. In 10 days of sticking entirely to LC I have somehow managed to gain half an lb. Why is this not working?

ChesterDrawers · 17/10/2014 06:11

So pissed off I can't even spell pissed!

StuntNun · 17/10/2014 06:50

Chester there are lots of reasons that can happen: do you have an underlying thyroid disorder or PCOS, have you been on a diet previously, have you been sticking to the rules particularly the water, have you taken up exercise lately, are you eating enough calories, do you have much weight to lose? Most importantly have you been taking measurements? A lot of people see an inch loss or move a notch on their belt before they see any weight loss. It is common to lose fat on this woe but your body replaces the fat volume with water so you don't lose any weight but you will feel slimmer. Another thing that can happen is that there can be what I think of as a healing process where your body needs to recover from it's previous diet and get used to there being ample food coming in before it will willingly let go of the extra weight.

aNoteToFollowSo · 17/10/2014 06:57

Oh Chester sympathy. Hopefully the whoosh fairy has just been delayed in bad traffic and will be with you soon.

Tanukisan I see you too and wish I could help. But like Mo I'm just not in a position to offer any helpful suggestions. Hopefully the LC elders will be along soon with some useful advice.

I just enjoyed my BC Light brekkie of greek yoghurt, strawberries and a sprinkling of pine nuts on top, with an almond or two chucked in. I never thought I would regard just a nutritious breakfast as such a treat. I'm really enjoying eating more healthily, and staying off the sugar. Now to deal with the weekend ...

ChesterDrawers · 17/10/2014 07:14

Stunt, thank you for replying.

No health disorders that I know of.

I'm always on a diet of one kind or another, most recently SW and then LC, restarted 2 weeks before BC

I'm sticking to the rules and have been having at least three litres of water a day, as well as a few black decaffs and herbal teas

I exercise sporadically mostly running and weights/kettlebells, have alway run but KBs is recent-ish addition.

Want to lose at least 2 stone, just under a stone to top of BMI.

Not taken measurements as I never believe I'm doing it right/measuring in correct place but clothes don't feel any looser.

BIWI · 17/10/2014 07:22

tanukisan - sorry, not been around much. But my thoughts:

B: a sausage, coffee with double cream why only one sausage? And was it low carb?
L: avocado, feta and tomato salad (no dressing) why no dressing? You should be having an oily dressing and/or mayo
D: burger with mayo, buttered leeks
S: two slices of wafer ham
D: lots of water, one diet coke and one tea with milk no Diet Ci
One! We are avoiding artificial sweeteners! And how much is 'lots
' of water?

More fat!

BIWI · 17/10/2014 07:25

Whoops -

no idea what happened there! I was trying to say 'no Diet Coke - we're trying to avoid artificial sweeteners'!

ClashCityRocker · 17/10/2014 07:52

Morning all!

I'm staying off the scales til Monday as I get a tad too obsessive otherwise.

Need to come up with a food plan today as it's always a 'high risk' food day on a Friday....especially as DH is off out tonight, and that's usually my cue to order a big takeaway and slob about on the sofa drinking coke!

So going to browse the recipes thread and come up with something nice for tea.

chester hopefully the scales will show a huge whoosh soon! I suspect I will be joining you in the stalled camp shortly...

SayraT · 17/10/2014 07:53

BIWI you beat me to it! I was just coming on to reply to Tanukisan as well Smile

Tanukisan, I think you got missed because you posted just after all the before and after pictures were posted so everyone commented on that and then your post got a bit lost.

There is also the problem that a lot of us are not confident enough to give advice to someone else as we are struggling with our own diets. The only thing I would have said to you would have been "no diet coke" but BIWI has given you much more useful answers.

best I had to do that last week, I picked out the middle of sandwiches and ate the inside of a quiche. Of course someone asked why so I just said I hadn't realised the beef sandwich had mustard on it so thats why I wasn't eating the bread.

clash everyones OH does something like that on this WOE, "oh, I didn't realise you couldn't have that". Mine very kindly bought me low-fat yogurt the other day!

aNote presentation was great Grin I actually really enjoy talking, being nervous is very unusual for me. My boss introduced me as "Here is Sayra, shes been here three years and she is fabulous" Smile

Sorry chester I wish that there was something we could do to help. I'd say don't give up, maybe you do need to give you body more time to adapt to LC. In the grand scheme of things 10 days is not that long. Why did you change from SW to LC, was it not working for you and if not why not? Do you have a tendency to give up/get disheartened/swap diets when you don't see immediate results? If I see the whoosh fairy I will send her your way Flowers

I weighed this morning at 212lbs so I am Grin, not sure that that weight will stick over the weekend as I am having my mum and her friend here for their annual visit. This involves a swim lunch and the local posh hotel so not sure what is available for lunch. I am hoping that the lunch will be the only non-LC meal as I am planning the following

Today
B: Eggs, coffee with cream
L: Crustless quiche, salad
D: lamb taco bake with salad
S: when they have crisps and dip I'll have vegetables and mayo.

Tomorrow
B: croissants for them and eggs for me, coffee with cream
L: Something at hotel
D: Nothing, usually too full Grin
S: as above

Sunday
B/L: Fry up

ChesterDrawers · 17/10/2014 08:05

Thanks Sarya, I do appreciate the advice.

You described me to a tee there, I am the queen of three diets in a day, one for every meal!

I went on SW when I came back off holiday in the summer and lost 9lb in about 6 weeks but I hated all the articficial crap I was eating and it did nothing to kill my cravings. I fell off the wagon and really struggled to get back on, then gained back what I'd lost.

Then I restarted LC two weeks before bootcamp. I have read into it lots and do believe it's the way we should be eating. But ultimate I want to lose weight and find it disheartening when I don't. I know a 10 day stall is not that bad, but it feels like a lifetime to me at the minute Sad

I'm not giving up though, I promised myself I'd stick with it for the 10 weeks this time after only making it to week 7 in the Jan BC.

Anyway I will stop moaning now and crack back on with it. Yogurt and a little cream for breakfast I think - Diet? What diet? Grin

RatherBeOnThePiste · 17/10/2014 08:11

Morning all

SayraT · 17/10/2014 08:53

Chester I am not sure what you will think of this but how about you don't weigh for the rest of BC? Just enjoy what you are eating, the other benefits of lc and you might be surprised when you do weigh. I know that is scary, I am sure if I could do it!

SarahBeenysBumblingApprentice · 17/10/2014 08:59

I'm just saying morning as I've come into work and it's manic!

Will post the swede/celeriac/ courgette rosti thing recipe later.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 17/10/2014 09:09

Chester, I recognise the diff diet every meal approach too. You're going to do the 10 weeks, am sure by then you will see a good change. And also because it's a WOE we must also focus on the health benefits. I know I feel so much better. Hugs for you. We can do this!

I have a pair of jeans I'm aiming for. Not new, but from when I was in better shape than now. Tried them on yesterday and I am getting there!

Going to Nice which will be nice :) for a long weekend with the DC next w/e. In fact inset helps and we can slide away late Thursday eve. Looking forward to it enormously as DH travels such a lot and it will be beyond fablarse to all be together, only three nights, two full days, but it will be magic. No idea food wise but will be making best choices available! Haven't had alcohol since starting bootcamp, think there may be some then.

yongnian · 17/10/2014 09:18

Hello all....sheepish explaination to follow...I did actually lose 2lb last week after all - my scales are tricky to read and I was confusing numbers all over the place...I only know this know because I've lost a further 1.5lb and so it's easier to see.
So, for the spreadsheet it should be week 2 2lbs down.
And I'll update for week 3 on mon obvs.
Sorry about that and (cringe apolgises further) could the very lovely sayra adjust the spreadsheet as I can't...?
And here's yesterday
B: ff yog dbl cream n peanut butter
L: avacado, tiny prawns and mozzarella little gem and basil salad with tons of x v o oil and mayo
D: stir fry beef made from strips of butchers burgers (for the extra fat) field mushrooms, spinach, soy beans, soy, sesame oil
S: pork scratchings
W: 2 and 3/4 litres
E: none - feeling a bit under par, hoping not coming down with lurgies
Mood turned a corner, maybe as I thought, not enough veggies at beginning of week and therefore depleted. Situational stuff also improved.
So, yay, for my terrible Maths/number deciphering abilities.
