Week 3 - Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp - the fork in the road ...

BIWI · 13/10/2014 07:39

Good morning! (not that there's much good about it, from what I can see out of the window ...)

So we're at the end of the first two weeks. Felt like forever, didn't it? Grin

Come and tell us how you got on on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

... or keep it to yourself on on the Weight Tracker

I hope that you have seen a good loss over these two weeks, because you do need to prepare yourself for the infamous weeks 3 and 4, where it is very, very, very, very common to see weight loss slow, stop or even reverse slightly

IF YOU FIND THIS IS HAPPENING, DON'T PANIC!

Keep calm and Bootcamp on ...

as we might say if we had our own posters Grin Just keep on keeping on, and things will start to move again very soon. However, the rate of loss will now - from here on - be at a more sustainable rate of 1-2lbs per week. (If you have a lot to lose it might be a bit more than this, but please don't expect to see massive losses every week - that way madness lies!)

And now you have a choice.

You can stay on Bootcamp if it suits you (but please promise me that you're getting your carbs from vegetables and salad), or you can move to Bootcamp Light, which means you can introduce a few berries and nuts/seeds, as well as re-introduce alcohol in moderation. Rules for Bootcamp Light are on the spreadsheet (look at the tabs at the bottom)

Or, you can do Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whatever you decide, I hope it goes well for you.

Flowers for all those still with us!

Liveinthepresent - Not sure how to work it out for an individual but I think its to keep it under 30g a day. generally I come out in the 20s and I don't restrict myself.

Whats helped me is to use the veg carb counter and get used to what 100g or 50g of my regular veg looked like, then you can have a general calculation per meal/day.
I would like to say I'm strict with my counting but its more that I keep to the lower count veg / salad and only really check when i'm having dairy or something new.

Liveinthepresent · 18/10/2014 15:58

Thanks again pisses I am mainly keeping to the low end for veg but am probably eating too much dairy.

My coconut milk said 2.6g of carbs per 100 ml - of which 0.5 is sugars - this seems quite good to me?

Pisseslikeahorse · 18/10/2014 16:04

yep doesn't seem to be bad at all

SixImpossible · 18/10/2014 19:04

I have a discovery to share:

Waitrose Thai Green Curry Soup is only 3-4% carbs and is seriously delicious.

A small bowlful with a couple of spoonfuls of butter added to increase fat made for an excellent lunch.

BestIsWest · 18/10/2014 19:18

Yes I sometimes have that for lunch in the office Six. It's gorgeous. They do a celeriac and creme fraiche one too which lovely.

SixImpossible · 18/10/2014 19:18

Tanukisan, to help you get away from the Coke, try licorice tea (Teapigs Licorice & Peppermint, or Pukka Peppermint & Licorice). It has a similar mouthfeel to Coke and is nice hot or cold.

If you're a regular Coke drinker, you might find you have deal with a caffeine addiction.

CharlieSierra · 18/10/2014 20:25

No Saturday night take away so I made these theclothesmakethegirl.com/2014/03/27/gyoza-meatballs/

They were bloody delicious! I made a clear spicy Asian broth and some stir fry veg in coconut oil with a shake of 5 spice to go with them. I dont think the leftovers will last until tomorrow.

Roseformeplease · 18/10/2014 20:56

Please can I join? I have done IPD and South Beach before but it has crept back on and I need to lose approx 20lbs. Have started today with eggy breakfast, salad and then roast chicken and ratatouille. I have drunk a lot of water and red bush tea and I feel OK and, to be honest, quite relieved to be starting.

46 Years Old, chubby blonde with ambitions to go back to being a less chubby blonde. Hello!

Tanukisan · 18/10/2014 21:31

Thanks six, I will. I am totally, totally caffeine addicted.

Charlie that recipe is genius. I'm married to a japanese man and have been missing my regular gyoza fix!

Tanukisan · 18/10/2014 21:36

My food today:

B: Greek yogurt with cream and a few blueberries. Coffee with cream.
L: scrambled eggs with shallots, cream, cherry toms and courgette cubes
L#2: chilli con carne with steamed veg
D: roast chicken and roasted cauliflower and courgette (roasted on high with garlic, lemon, S&L, coconut oil, then sprinkled with Parmesan)

Not enough water. One diet coke.

ChesterDrawers · 18/10/2014 21:59

Funny day but can confirm I remained LC during a day at the seaside which included other people eating ice cream, smells of hot donuts and being trapped in a car with DH and DS eating fish and chips!

I had:

B: yog, little cream, cinnamon post run
Early L: scrambled eggs with butter, bacon, shrooms
Snacks throughout afternoon/eve: coffee with cream, posh pork scratchings, about 100g macadamia nuts, maybe a bit less
V late D: two huge mushrooms filled with streaky bacon, Stilton, cheddar and cream. Some wine - final quantity still to be determined.

So not ideal and still too much dairy but not bad all considered. Plus I did a 5k interval run and must have walked for six miles.

ClashCityRocker · 18/10/2014 22:40

I'm chuffed, I've got through today with no slips!

I think weekends are always higher risk.

Your dinner sounds lovely chester

Also been on the wine tonight (but 'twas a special occasion) and I can fully recommend mixing it with sod, drank half as much and didn't feel deprived in the slightest!

ClashCityRocker · 18/10/2014 22:41

Um, soda water, not sod. Don't mix it with sod.

BestIsWest · 19/10/2014 00:03

Really bad day for me and I am not one to cheat at all on this WOE. However I have felt decidedly ropey today. I doubt it is carb flu as I have been Very strict for the last 3 weeks. However I almost fainted in M&S today and felt ill afterwards. DH took me for a cup of tea and I ate some of his polenta, almond and orange cake. How bad will that be?

Side issue... Why do M&S (and others) put the size 8 shoes on the bottom shelf and the Size 4s on the top? Surely the people with size 8 feet will be taller in general and therefore have further to bend to look at the shoes? Whereas the people with size 4 feet will be shorter but don't have to bend at all.

ClashCityRocker · 19/10/2014 00:23

Oh, that sounds awful bestiswest (feeling faint, I mean). Are you eating enough generally?

I hear the mighty BIWI had a kitkat t'other week...I had a piece of christening cake the other weekend and I don't think it had much of an impact as a one off, so I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

I have a theory about shoes (being a size eight myself)...the smaller ones look prettier and daintiest, so they put them in the eyeline...and the great galumphing ones at the bottom.

CharlieSierra · 19/10/2014 08:36

Tanukisan make them! Umami heaven.

ChesterDrawers · 19/10/2014 08:38

Well done Clash, weekends are tough!

Hope you're feeling better Best

I'm going for a dairy free day Shock in the hope of tempting the scales down before WI tomorrow.

B: eggs, butter, mushrooms in butter
L: celeriac soup, basically celeriac, lots of butter and stock
D: some kind of meat, when I get out of bed and look in the freezer, roast broccoli, cabbage and leeks fried in butter

BestIsWest · 19/10/2014 08:53

I think I'm eating enough Clash. I'd had boiled eggs with butter and greek youghurt for breakfast. I've been feeling a bit off colour generally lately and I've had all the blood tests going, and they're all fine. I do have an underlying calcium issue so it might be that. I just get dizzy and breathless if I stand up too quickly and then get headachey and sweaty. Hence my rant about the shoes.

You are probably right about the smaller sizes looking prettier.

BestIsWest · 19/10/2014 09:00

BIWI ate a Kitkat Shock. I must have missed that.

StuntNun · 19/10/2014 09:07

BestisWest maybe you do need more carbs occasionally. I find I do best with an occasional carb refeed otherwise I can get a bit ropey like you describe. It's not a licence to go mad but you could try having some extra carbs for one meal every week or two to see if that livens you up a bit. Go for safe carbs such as a baked potato or an apple or a small amount of white rice otherwise you run the risk of triggering carb cravings for a couple of days after.

BestIsWest · 19/10/2014 09:30

Hmm maybe you are right Stunt. I am still doing bootcamp so perhaps I will move onto BC Light this week and see if that helps.

StuntNun · 19/10/2014 09:55

Not necessarily Best, I went very low carb (10g per day) for a couple of short periods over the summer Andi did fine. I definitely need an occasional carb boost to maintain my energy levels or I get fatigued and dizzy.

Username12345 · 19/10/2014 12:19

Went shopping yesterday can't believe Pomegranates are 19g carbs. Shock

Did replace my babybels for some Cathedral Chedds. I love cheddar not so much the babybel cheese though.

Forgot to get strawberries and raspberries(?) so think I'm going to stay on bootcamp rather than light.

BIWI · 19/10/2014 12:25

Grin that you remembered!

In my defence, I was working late, stuck in a room where the only things to eat were Kit Kats, other assorted chocolate covered biscuits and crisps. I had a nanosecond to grab something to eat, and I went for the KitKat because I knew the carb count.

And as I had consumed no other carbs that day, it wasn't that bad!

Sorry that you're feeling ill, and fainting is horrible. Are you eating enough salt? Remember we need to keep our electrolytes balanced, particularly because we're drinking a lot of water, so sodium, magnesium and potassium.

Salt in/on food, and other foods like avocado, salmon, spinach and natural yoghurt are all good.
