Morning campers!

You all know the drill by now - here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness or the Weight Tracker

I hope that the scales are kind to you this morning!

And as we enter the last two weeks, let's see if we can be super vigilant and keep an eye on those pesky carbs.

Thanks miffy, but he actually has trouble putting weight on the complete rotter so maybe this might actually help!

EwanHoozami · 04/07/2014 16:12

I'm pretty sure the 16g on the SSOF is a typo, that's the count for the actual mung beans themselves and that the watery sprouts are less than 3g.

NeverHadANickname · 04/07/2014 17:53

Did some exercise last night and at dinner time. I'm not sure if upping my exercise again will make a difference to my weight loss, I think I'll probably loose less or slower because of the muscle gain so I'll still weigh myself but mainly be looking at the fit of clothes.

I've just had steak with a mushroom, cream, blue cheese sauce and spinach. All cooked in butter. I was going to have crabbys crumble but I'm so full I wouldn't manage it, I didn't even finish my steak! I'll have it in a salad tomorrow.

Fluffycloudland77 · 04/07/2014 18:02

Any ideas for low carb on a budget? Dh is starting lc tomorrow.

Pisseslikeahorse · 04/07/2014 18:13

NeverHad - if your doing jillian Michaels then that should help with toning and light weight loss, I wouldn't expect to put on any major amounts of muscle but you will feel allot tighter. The general rule of thumb is 3500cal burnt is equivalent to 1lb of body fat.

Hope that helps Smile

NeverHadANickname · 04/07/2014 18:18

Thanks Pisses that is helpful to know. I've never been sure on the whole muscle and fat stuff.

Any sort of exercise you'd recommend for weight loss? I'm really enjoying getting back into exercise in general, I used to do a lot but gave it up to concentrate on other things before Christmas. I really regret that.

I'm trying to build myself back up to running again but I was never great at that.

EwanHoozami · 04/07/2014 18:20

Aha Fluffy I was skint when I first started LCing, I'll see if I can dig out my old meal plans.

Best tips overall is to shop in Aldi / Lidl or hover around the reduced meat shelf in the big supermarkets and freeze your bargains.

EwanHoozami · 04/07/2014 18:27

some ideas for cheapness:

  • sardine fishcakes, made with swede
  • tuna kedgeree with cauli rice
  • corned beef hash with celeriac
  • chicken thighs marinaded in smoked paprika and mayo
  • crustless quiches are cheeeaapo - green bean and blue cheese is my fave. Or a greek one with pine nuts, spinach, basic salad cheese and dill.
  • Rose Elliot's omelette canneloni is lush

the cheaper cuts of meat are the fattiest and best for LCing. Pork belly etc.

NeverHadANickname · 04/07/2014 18:37

Corned beef! Never even occurred to me. I know you were answering someone else Ewan but thanks for reminding me about corned beef.

EwanHoozami · 04/07/2014 18:47

Mmmmmm corned beef. I have been known to used the sliced stuff as a bread replacement to make a cheese sandwich.

NeverHadANickname · 04/07/2014 18:53

Oh that sounds amazing. Definitely need to go to Morrison's in the morning Grin

BestIsWest · 04/07/2014 18:55

Blush I've been picking the bea sprouts out one by one from DH's Stir fries.

readyforno2 · 04/07/2014 19:28

Ewan what a great idea. I love corned beef. For some reason I thought it wasn't going to be lc.
Guess what I'm having for lunch tomorrow!!

L - salad with pulled pork, tiny splash of BBQ sauce
D - duck egg omelette with mushrooms

At least 6 pints of water

Pisseslikeahorse · 04/07/2014 21:44

NeverHad - if your able to run then do so as its the best, If you getting back into it then go for a couch to 5k programme they're brilliant! for lighter impact try swimming or cycling. You could look at circuit training or something like british military fitness, but can be full of posers.
If you do the gym then just do lots of cardio.

Generally you should be looking for cardio training 3-5 times a week for 30min minimum but better an hr, so something that really makes you sweat, and just repeat it constantly, giving yourself at least two days off a week 'together' so that your muscle tissue can repair / rest.

This is how I've been able to keep up my losses. I've been running 4 times a week in a build up to the london 10k, with the result that over the last few months I've averaged 120k a month, which equates to approximately 15000cals burnt per month. Grin

NeverHadANickname · 04/07/2014 22:05

Wow thats brilliant. Your losses have been so good throughout.

I ran/jogged 5k for the race for life this time last year so I'll start trying to run again. Thanks for your help.

I've had my new dress on and fastened with help from DH, so now I just need to be able to breathe in it.

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/07/2014 16:28

Dh is finding lc hard, so far today he's had;

Mushrooms, sausage (lc I checked), bacon & egg cooked in lard and a tin of tomatoes for breakfast with 500ml no sugar squash (he won't drink plain water at all)

Umpteen cups of tea forced on him.

Salad of iceberg lettuce and cucumber with a pack of piri piri chicken with olive oil dressing plus a big piece of cheese with 3tbl sp of full fat mayo and more squash.

He isn't weeing as much as usual but that could be his blood sugar being lower?.

Tonight he's having two chicken breasts with sausage meat stuffing (home made so lc) and some gravy which I'll try and smuggle butter into.

It's so ingrained into him to have bread with every meal or potatoes.

I'm so worried his hba1c will be high and the gp will want him on diabetes tablets.

BIWI · 05/07/2014 16:48

He's got to cut out the squash - it's carby and the artificial sweeteners won't be doing him any good.

Also, a tin of tomatoes has a lot of carbs in it.

Not weeing means he isn't drinking enough.

He should be eating fattier cuts of meat - chicken is too lean.

What is it he's finding hard exactly?

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 05/07/2014 16:59

It's carb free, I checked. He won't drink plain water at all, even mineral water. It's tea or squash.

He hates fatty meat, I'm having pork belly tonight but it would make him gag.

I gave him tomatoes to ease him into it. I can leave them out tomorrow.

EwanHoozami · 05/07/2014 17:02

Can I heartily recommend these pork shumai meatballs from IBIH?

made with 20% pork mince they're really good value and taste uh-mazing.

BIWI · 05/07/2014 17:11

Squash can't possibly be carb-free! Which brand is he drinking?

If he hates fatty meat he has to eat more fat in the rest of his diet - seriously!

Has he done any reading about the science behind low carbing? That might help to convince him

OP posts:
miffy49 · 05/07/2014 17:21

Yes, I fell for it with squash! they are labelled to give the impression of being sugar free but they aren't. They add in a certain amount of juice so theres actually the fruit sugar in there. I tend to favour plain water now, fizzy and nicely iced, but I eased myself into it with some essences designed for Soda Streams. Its called My Water. Seems expensive for such a teeny tiny bottle but you only need 1ml to 500ml water and its totally sugar/sweetener free.

Blokes do often get away with a higher carb than us girls. Would he have a creamy sauce or some mayo with his chicken?

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/07/2014 19:07

He's having sainsburys no added sugar squash. It's the best alternative I can find. The only way I could get him to drink water is to leave him stranded in a desert with 2l of water and nothing else.

He's not interested in the science behind low carb, it goes against everything the media and the nhs has told him about a good diet & that's 50 years of brainwashing. As a family they are not keen to try new things.

When I've tried to explain about hidden sugars before they don't really understand about carb=sugar=bad for you. Bread is bread and sugar is sugar and never the twain shall meet. I am really up against it here & I know at the next family meet up I will be forced to defend myself.

Last time he was given a quarter of a sponge cake all to himself as a treat because his evil wife doesn't buy cake. Which is like saying its mean not to have alcohol in the house of an alcoholic Angry. I'm still cross about it a year later.

He won't give a shiny one about the side effects of artificial sweeteners. Just wont be interested.

I can mix butter in with the gravy but I'm going to have to increase fat gradually. I've got some high fat dips too, sour cream and chive. I can look into making my own if he takes to them.

He's only trying it because I've lost a lot of weight on it and am much slimmer in just two weeks. I only had about 6lb to lose though.

What I really need is the telegraph to do an article about how fab low carb is.

On the upside his blood glucose is 7.1 2hrs after eating.

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/07/2014 19:08

Sorry that's very long.

I feel up against it today & worried about justifying my choices to family.

cardoon · 05/07/2014 19:53

Can someone point me in the direction of the slow cooked pork/coconut/ ginger (?) recipe please - fancy a change from roast tomorrow and can't find it on the recipe thread

JimmyCorkhill · 05/07/2014 20:13

Here it is.

Mine has never looked like the picture though. Mine looks really dark. Still tastes nice though.
