Morning campers!

You all know the drill by now - here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness or the Weight Tracker

I hope that the scales are kind to you this morning!

And as we enter the last two weeks, let's see if we can be super vigilant and keep an eye on those pesky carbs.

I feel like I need to post something today because one part of me is having a bit of a wobble. I have put some bolognaise on to defrost though to have with some mushrooms so I am still with it.

miffy49 · 02/07/2014 17:54

Thanks Spamm. I'll put out landing lights for her! LOL

Fluffy I had my GP review yesterday and was pleasantly surprised. I went in complete with Biwi's big stick but didn't need it. She was very complimentary about how good I looked with the weight I've lost. I told her I was doing low carb and had no intention of changing as it helped the fibro. I expected her to launch into the dangers only to be told she would make a note of my comments and suggest it to other people! Could have knocked me down with a feather! Also got the OK to stay off my statins until the end of September when she will revue my cholesterol and also check out my thyroid given that my weight loss has dried up. Came out feeling positive for a change!

Suzymoo09 · 02/07/2014 20:05

Fluffy my dh went to a specialist dietician at the hospital and was told to eat carbs, wholemeal grains etc and he was (wrongly) put on insulin, was having a terrible time with hypos and weight gain. He did his own research, saw a different gp who took him off insulin & put him on Victosa which agrees with him better - though I'm not sure he discussed diet with his gp - he has read up on low carbin and was telling me this was the key for him for about two years before I twigged - I thought it would be too much effort but am finding it's okay. Sorry to rabbit on.

Suzymoo09 · 02/07/2014 20:11

Also Fluffy he is part of a forum on diabetes.co.uk and finds laura dolson's website and recipes very useful (eg delicious alternative cake recipes - not for bootcamp but it may help him) - actually I am much stricter than dh as I have been bootcamping since Jan for weight loss.

Suzymoo09 · 02/07/2014 20:14

Some info relating to low-carbing & diabetes here fluffy: www.diabetes.co.uk/diet/low-carb-diabetes-diet.html

Scousadelic · 02/07/2014 20:35

I think GPs are quietly coming round to low carb miffy The ones I work with certainly are and one eats that way himself they just don't voice it as it's against current guidelines. The real resistance to change imo is the dieticians and secondary care (hospital specialists, etc) Even the obesity programme our area subscribes to now has moved to having nutritionists and personal trainers and are giving more balanced advice to patients

I've been good again today but was up another 1lb on the scales. I'm now up 6lb in total from having one naughty splurge on Saturday (have been good ever since but up 4lb Mon, 5lb Tues and 6lb today Angry ) This had better drop off soon

Fluffycloudland77 · 02/07/2014 20:44

There was an obesity surgeon on tv ages ago, his lunch was a tin of sardines in oil.

He was lecturing his staff on beige food as he called it.

lowcarbforthewin · 02/07/2014 21:19

There was a great article in the Times 2 today by Michael Mosley on eating fat. I think slowly people are coming around to this, but it will take a while. You only have to go on AIBU to see all the confusion and people rejecting the sugar is evil stuff. I think we'll get there though. It just makes me so cross diabetics are told to eat low fat!!

All fine here foodwise. I had chunky almond butter today rather than smooth, hadn't ever seen it before.

If you are struggling with breakfast remember you can eat leftovers too. It doesn't have to be eggs. Luckily I love eggs, I look forward to them every morning which is nuts given that I've eaten them for months. Boiled eggs with pesto is a favourite, as are scrambled eggs.

miffy49 · 03/07/2014 00:57

My son is doing LC and he does his breakfast the night before. He usually cooks for him and his girlfriend so he does a bit extra meat and has it cold with almonds or a few brazils. I like my eggs but its an idea for anyone tearing off out to work. He leaves his in a plastic bag in the fridge so that if he sleeps in he can just grab it and eat it on the tram!

Fluffy I remember the surgeon and his beige food! he also called crisps the devils food! I can heartily recommend the diabetes.co.uk site too. I learned a lot about low carb and blood glucose control from there.

BIWI · 03/07/2014 07:11

Yay to your GP miffy!

Scouse - perhaps now is time to consider the artificial sweeteners you're consuming in those diet drinks I don't know anything about? Wink

I tried so many times to post yesterday with each post getting shorter and shorter! My internet kept dying.

I was trying to share my new gadget with you, its called a spiralizer and it makes the most amazing courgetti, it looks and feels like real spaghetti and if you are careful you can get massive big strands.

I used it to make courgetti carbonara which was delicious Grin

Down 1lb this morning which has made me feel better, hopefully it'll stay off.

I've had a different breakfast to my usual yogurt, I've had bacon, mushrooms and scrambled eggs. I'm feeling quite full, not sure I'll want a lot for dinner.

Possibly tuna mayo and olives for dinner.

For tea I was planning fried eggs with celeriac chips but I don't know if I can have any more eggs, they make me feel sick sometimes so I'm undecided.

Love the spiralizer Sayra, I bet that would be good on different veg too.

BIWI · 03/07/2014 08:27

I saw them using that on Saturday Kitchen Sayra - but when I went on to Amazon to look for one, it was already out of stock. Sadly I don't really have enough room in my kitchen for yet another gadget, and I wonder how much I would really use it? But I still want one!

For those who have problems with breakfast, I really would recommend trying leftovers. It sounds bizarre but I actually find a dinner-style meal very palatable on the mornings when I'm not in the mood for much food or if I don't fancy the usual eggs. I've even had cold curry and it was very tasty.

readyforno2 · 03/07/2014 08:45

Tried courgetti for the first time last night, it was delicious. Might have to see how much I've got left at the end of the month and treat myself to one of those..

doineedhelp · 03/07/2014 09:40

saw that on saturday kitchen too, looked a bit fiddly to use though?

I couldn't face eggs again this morning

B - chicken, olives and cheese, 2 coffees with cream
L - chicken salad with FF dressing
D - Tuna steaks and cauli egg fried rice

3L water

Supermum0203 · 03/07/2014 10:48

Wow SAYRA that gadget looks great, and your meal looks so yummy!!
A bit overwhelmed when I saw ds2 going in the coach for his induction day to the big school....:(
Where all this time has gone?? It looks like yesterday when I was taken him to reception all worried and shy and when today I saw him leaving ...something broke inside of me.. u was on tears, and I couldn't help myself...

NeverHadANickname · 03/07/2014 11:57

Work have had a box of chocolates for over a week now! I have resisted so far but I had hoped they'd be gone by now but they're still there. They look so tasty.

I pick a new dress up today so that will be the motivation for me not having one.

HolgerDanske · 03/07/2014 12:18

Awwww supermum I know the feeling well - my eldest is off to uni this year! Bless their cotton socks...

Have a cup of tea, tea fixes everything x

miffy49 · 03/07/2014 12:27

The gadget looks great but I don't think I have room for anything that large! My worktops are cluttered as it is. I ordered a gadget from Amazon that is due to arrive today. Its like a Y-peeler but cuts strands and can be used for courgettes, cucumber, carrots etc. I got a new Y-peeler too as part of a discount deal. Its supposed to be sharp enough to do things like squash. Thought it might be safer than my knife given the state of the arthritis in my hands. Not saying I'm dangerous but my son (who is a chef) calls me Zorro! The two peelers together came to less than a tenner including delivery so its either a bargain or a big mistake! Grin

Scousadelic · 03/07/2014 13:08

Miffy I bought a julienne peeler from Lakeland which is supposed to make thin strips but don't find it easy. It often cuts off a sheet which I then have to break apart.

I think I need a spiraliser too. Am mentally replanning my cupboards to fit it in!

Good news 3lb of my naughty 6 has come off overnight Smile

miffy49 · 03/07/2014 13:23

Hmmmm,Scousadelic, Mine just arrived and its actually come from Lakeland! Now I'm hoping it works OK. Will look at the spiralisers as I have a birthday not too far ahead. Smile

NeverHadANickname · 03/07/2014 14:10

Does anyone have a recommendation for which Gillian Michaels workouts are best for fat burning? I know there's a thread on it but its really long and I don't understand most of it. I'll be using youtube until I can order a DVD.

HolgerDanske · 03/07/2014 14:18

I think you can buy a set of five of her DVDs for twenty pounds or something on amazon. Given that they're about seven pounds each, you might be better off buying the set...

HolgerDanske · 03/07/2014 14:19

(Sorry, I know that didn't actually answer the question, but I thought I'd mention it anyway Smile)
