Morning campers!

You all know the drill by now - here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness or the Weight Tracker

I hope that the scales are kind to you this morning!

And as we enter the last two weeks, let's see if we can be super vigilant and keep an eye on those pesky carbs.

4.8lb! Well done Ready, I could do with that this week.

Has anyone ever done low carbing with anything else like fast days to speed things up? Would this work? I need a bit of fast action for later this month but if not I'll just keep doing what I'm doing.

irian/never

I'm not a great meat lover either; I was veggie for years and meat and two veg doesn't come naturally to me.

Things that have helped me:

Scouring the recipe thread for highly flavoured recipes- coconut chilli chicken, for instance. Or the aubergine and haloumi thing.

The Ipd cookbook- we love the prawn bhajis in this house!

Nomnom paleo blog.

Every time I do a food shop I buy a new spice, such as sumac, and make new things with it. if all else fails, I mix it with olive oil and use it as a rub for baked chicken thighs.

Oh, and I've learnt to love avocados too! Bacon and avocado is the food of the gods.

I have to say that I'm really struggling for lunches at the moment, I prefer leftovers to salad and we always seem to eat everything up! I'm really into an oregano/ red wine/ olive oil vinaigrette for salads though.

Any of you type 2 diabetic?

I'm not but dh is and we have a monitor. Today I've had;

One rasher streaky bacon, two fried eggs.
One pack of chilli flavoured cold chicken 300g
Two leg/thigh chicken joints cooked in gravy but drained. No snacks. Drunk water and tea with unsweetened soya.

My sugar 2 hours later is 6. I mean, how? Confused Sad

Dh is hopefully going to try lc and was 12.7.

Fluffy are you relatively new to LC, weeks rather than months? It can cause a higher blood glucose at first. Long term it can also cause a slightly higher fasting blood glucose because the liver is producing glucose by gluconeogenesis, but remember the slightly higher baseline blood glucose is countered by the fact that blood glucose doesn't skyrocket after meals.

Fluffycloudland77 · 01/07/2014 21:50

Yes, I'm two weeks in.

I remembered I've had 4 cherry tomatoes after dinner.

Report
StuntNun · 01/07/2014 21:52

Also two hours after eating is a time when your blood glucose might still be elevated. Try a fasting blood glucose tomorrow morning.

Thanks Sarah. That coconut chilli chicken sounds nice and I'll have a look at the other bits.

Treated myself to three strawberries with a glug of double cream, it was delicious. 1st 8 to get to my target, can't wait!

Hi, can I jump on here and join you for the last part of this bootcamp?! I've been really struggling with my weight. Today I'm 10st10lb (ideally want to be 9st). I'm 5ft4" and have been watching the scales tipping up and up slowly over the last 6 months. I've been for a 3 mile run this morning and now I'm going to have eggs with salad and will be drinking plenty of water!

Can I ask is gin and slim line tonic ok for me to drink later (only tonight due to my birthday celebration)?? Is that better than red wine? Many thanks!

Any ideas for someone who doesn't like fatty meat? They like butter though.

Thank you.

Report
miffy49 · 02/07/2014 12:42

I still struggle with very fatty meat. I can manage bacon if its crispy but that seems to defeat the purpose doesn't it because you've cooked out a lot of the fat! I love butter. I add it liberally to eggs and veggies. Make a dip with mayo and cream cheese and dip your lean meat and veggies in that. Add some chives or garlic.

Hello all! Finally I can report some success - a whoosh overnight takes me to 200lbs and my first stone lost! Yay!

It is obvious that yogurt for breakfast was not helpful to me. I was trying to find something other than eggs that I could eat easily, but I cannot find a good full fat, low carb yogurt here in the US. I can find nice full fat yogurt, but they have at least 9gm of carb per serving, if not more. So it was not helping! Back on eggs, sausage and mushrooms for breakfast and working hard on the rest of my food - and surprise, it works!

Runmamarun - you are welcome to join any time, but please go back to the spreadsheet (link at the top of the page in the OP) and read the rules. This is not just low carb, it is bootcamp, so stricter than just low carb. But it is worth it! And we are a nice bunch of losers!

Fluffy - i am not much help, as I love fatty meat. But as Miffy says, you can add your fat in other ways, like cooking in butter or coconut oil and then using mayonnaise or other fatty dips and sauces. Think of adding hollandaise to your steak, or a full fat tzatziki dip to your lamb - that kind of thing. Or go american and add cheese to everything, if dairy does not stall you. A blue cheese sauce on steak or a burger is fabulous.

Hi all
So far, so good food wise.
SPAMM. What about some smoked salmon with cream cheese or some mackerel with tomatoe sauce for breakfast? U can alternate them with your eggs and sausages and it will break the routine of having everyday the same :)

Welcome RUNM , :)

Fluffy - my dh is type 2 diabetic - he put me onto low carbing in the first place, he does it too but not as strictly as me. It has definitely helped lower his blood sugar levels.

I am pleased to say I tried on and bought a size 8 top in Fat Face sale today and when I started low carbing in January I was a size 14!!!! haven't been this weight in years. I am small in height so that also means each pound gained or lost makes a real difference.

I was well on my way to being diabetic until I went low carb. Turned it round inside a week!

Spamm well done on the whoosh. Could you now post the Whoosh Fairy over to me please! Grin

Supermom - I will think of those as options, good idea. I am also thinking of the good old "leftovers". Who says you cannot have cauliflower cheese for breakfast! I just need to cook a bit more of whatever it is - I generally use leftovers for lunch at work, but I would make sure i have stuff for breakfast as well. Thanks!

Fluffycloudland77 · 02/07/2014 16:08

Suzy what does your Dh's dr think of low carbing?

Dh does like dips like sour cream and chive, I could make that if shop bought is too carby.

He just doesn't like the feel of fat in his mouth, unless you chop it up call it a burger and throw cheese on it. Then it's fine Hmm

Plus the carb brainwashing is thoroughly entrenched in him.

A colleague of mine developed diabetes in the last few years. I was asking him about what he could and couldn't eat recently and he said no sugar but also no fat. Surely a low-carb diet is better than starving on no-sugar, no-fat?

I'm a HCP and a lot of the type 2 dm patients are overweight, on at least one tablet or insulin and tablets.

I've had patients complain the practice nurse has told them the ideal breakfast is 30g of cornflakes with skimmed milk. Not ideal for men who work in heavy manual labour.

It's all the wrong way round isn't it?.
