Time for the new thread ...

Am on iPad and have no time to link to the Spreadsheet, but please talk here! Will do links later (unless some kind soul could do them for me)

OP posts:

Another lb gone...

Shock

I mean, really Shock

I am not complaining but I am completely amazed at how well it's working this time round. I was afraid post-meno it would be harder.

BMI is in the 23s!!! Huzzah!

IrianofWay · 10/06/2014 11:01

One thing I have noticed is that the scales dip after my running days. It isn''t always a full lb but I am only taking notice of the numbers before the decimal point as the ones after tend to wibble around a lot on a daily basis. But the trend is always down! Wondering if once in ketosis any exercise just targets stored fat instantly?

Birdinacage · 10/06/2014 11:51

Pingufan - I can't believe the energy I have this morning, I'm literally buzzing Grin. I only put one teaspoon each of butter and coconut oil in but might up it a bit next time. Apparently coconut oil is supposed to be good for joint pain (crosses fingers) which might be another reason why your knees are feeling better. I'm hoping it will help with my hip problems which are the after effects of monster SPD in pregnancy 4 years ago.

Yay for new work clothes, all my trousers and shorts keep falling down but the next size down is still a little too tight so I'm just living in dresses and elastic waisted skirts for now

IrianofWay - I ignore the numbers after the decimal point too, my start weight was from being weighed at the doctors and they only told me in stones and pounds so I figure that I can't accurately measure them and they are therefore unimportant Wink. Also my scales don't even display numbers for ounces just stones, pounds and then fractions of pounds. Well done for the fab BMI and continued losses Smile

EwanHoozami · 10/06/2014 12:47

Bird that's interesting about coconut oil and joint pain. I'm a fellow post-SPD dodgy-hipper so it's another reason for me go back to eating / drinking it again.

Just noting down my day 1 meal plan:

B - buttery scrambled eggs
L - Tuna mayo and roast broccoli
D - Goats cheese, asparagus and broccoli salad

Sloshing my way through 3l water

Sugar cravings have not kicked in. Yet...

miffy49 · 10/06/2014 13:02

I can't drink BPC as I always have my coffee black and can't bear it with milk or cream. I wanted to have coconut oil, as a supplement really, because I have joint issues and I also saw it recommended for vulvodynia which can make my life miserable from time to time. I get round it by just scooping out a spoonful from the jar and downing that with a hot coffee chaser! The oil soon sets up enough to scoop if you pop it in the freezer for a minute or two. I don't dislike the taste and the hot coffee shifts any residual oiliness.

Regarding the pink salt, I started using it and I like it. You need a lot less than normal table salt or even normal sea salt. No idea if its doing anything for me but it tastes good an a salad to what the heck! Originally I got a Jamie Oliver grinder from Sainsburys which was a big mistake. its very hard and the chunks are too big so no amount of twisting will get the grinder to turn and crush them! I ended up with a cheapy grinder from Aldi. Hoping I can get a decent supply for refilling when its empty.

miffy49 · 10/06/2014 13:18

lowcarbforthewin We seem to be in a similar place here! You have ME and I have ME/FMS so maybe its our disrupted metabolisms and the imbalance of neurotransmitters that is messing things up. I like this WOE because its the only thing that has ever made me feel anywhere near well so I refuse to give it up. Anyway, I never lost weight on any other plan either so its not an option. I don't seem to be craving the way you are but I do feel really peevish when I see other people on other plans cheating like mad and still losing! Someone recommended the Neris and India book and I can second that. Its very motivating.

We will beat it somehow! Smile

Supermum0203 · 10/06/2014 13:22

Hello everybody !
Do you mind if I join in, please ?
I have read all your post from previous BC and
for this one, but I haven't been able to post anything until now , due to technicals problems.
I have been dieting for the past, I should say, 20 years, jumping from one diet to another. But the only thing I have done in all of them is to avoid bread, pasta, rice and potatoes and also wine.
I'm currently 66kg and all I'm trying to do is going back to my weight before Xmas which was 59kg.
I started AGAIN BC the 21st of April and up to today.... I haven't lost nothing at all. ...!!
Ever so sorry for the length of my first post , but it feels like I ve known all of you for ever..????

readyforno2 · 10/06/2014 13:43

2lb down for me!

Didn't have any breakfast this morning.
L- mushrooms and courgettes fried in butter with double cream
D- (will be..) chicken stuffed with Philadelphia with asparagus and spinach

Lulabellarama · 10/06/2014 13:54

Hi low carb people,

I haven't posted before because I wasn't prepared to do full on Bootcamp and didn't want to derail. I have berries most days, have had a few glasses of wine and have the odd diet sparkling drink
So does that make it alright to post here or should I skulk around somewhere else - I won't be offended if my rules are too lax for you hardcore lot!

I have a few questions.

My calories are almost always over 2000, which concerns me as I don't have loads to lose. My carbs are always under 50g and I usually end up with a split of around 80/15/5. I'm already a normal BMI but could do with losing a stone to feel better in myself. How much of an issue do you think this is?

And I'm having no issue with cravings for bread/rice/pasta type stuff, but I really miss eating a variety of fruit and lentils. Do they have any place in a low carb lifestyle beyond bootcamp or do I just need to get over myself?

Supermum0203 · 10/06/2014 16:08

Hi Lula
As far as this thread goes, u r not supposed to have any fruit , let alone wine, unless u do switch to BC lite where u can have some berries and once in a while some wine.
And regarding your cal intake, if u r close to your goal, u may have to reduce them a bit to see if u lose somenthing. Anyway do not lose your hopes and stick to it.

antimatter · 10/06/2014 17:09

Lulabellarama - welcome to the thread.
If you crave bread/rice/pasta type stuff you are def having too much glucose in your bloodstream.
I would not eat starchy veg at all, regardless how much of 50g of carbs it represents.
Stick with raw veg, and low IG one's.
Paste an exact break down of your day's food diary and we can pick it apart.
Are you drinking too little water?
You have to have over 2 l (and more).
What kind of fat do you eat to make it to 1600cal? That would be equivalent of a pack of butter a day.

Re:wine - the rule is once in a while some wine.
Wine will stall you for a couple of days for sure.

antimatter · 10/06/2014 17:13

Supermum0203 - IMHO you need to read and follow strict Bootcamp for at least 2 weeks to see results. You may have to carry on on strict diet as it takes more than 2 weeks for some to start losing weight.

You need to do more than just avoid starchy carbs and wine.
You need to up your fat intake and eat right type of low IG vegetables.
Are you exercising too?

pingufan · 10/06/2014 17:26

Just had the most luscious tea and it took only 10 minutes to prep

Bacon & mushrooms fried in butter with courgetti stirred in the lovely buttery bacon fat a few minutes before taking out of the pan. Finish it with grated cheddar over the top.

So delicious and tasty - quite salty though but meant I could drink a pint of water afterwards easily.

Supermum0203 · 10/06/2014 18:15

Hi antimatter
Thanks for your post. I'm heading to the gym right now. I will give u more details about my food later.

lowcarbforthewin · 10/06/2014 19:52

Well I have to laugh. Having struggled this morning someone is asking about low carbing in chat and I've gone into full on 'this woe is awesome' mode, and just enthused myself hugely. So glad I didn't fall off the wagon. I ended up buying some Greek yogurt for my tea, and having some strawberries in it. I don't want to start eating dairy regularly, but hopefully as a once off it won't stall me. It cheered me up anyway, after so much restriction.

Supper was amazing. Grated garlic into a pan of butter, chopped in courgette and added mussels. Fried the lot till it was all crispy. Oh my god.

SayraT · 10/06/2014 20:02

Well done low carb I saw your posts in chat Smile

Your dinner sounds good!

antimatter · 10/06/2014 20:04

I just had the most enjoyable meal, kids had it with spaghetti, me without.
I cooked frozen spinach with some pepper and salt.
I had home made tomato sauce from Mumsnet recipe where [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OVW5YRMudY you bake everything in the oven].
I made mixture of minced beef and pork (15 and 20% fat) fried it on coconut fat, added lots of pepper and some piri-piri salt and some celery salt too.

Mixed all together and warmed up - yummmmm.

HolgerDanske · 10/06/2014 20:24

Hello everyone! Smile I feel like I have been away for ages...

Had a few weeks of quite relaxed eating (Sorry BIWI!). Birthday month... Anyway back on the wagon now and feeling good and very positive today.

I haven't read the thread yet but congrats to all of you for sticking with it and hmmm, I wonder if I'll be able to catch up with everyone.

readyforno2 · 10/06/2014 20:31

Can someone tell me what to do with coconut cream? I remembered seeing something about it on one of the threads so bought some and don't know what to use it for Blush

PeonyStick · 10/06/2014 20:49

ready ... Mix with some Greek yog or just eat on it's own . If you're on BC light you can mix with a tiny bit of unsweetened cocoa .

antimatter · 10/06/2014 21:09

I have coconut cream and double cream. Equal parts.

SayraT · 10/06/2014 22:05

I use coconut cream in the same way as peony and anitmatter but I've also used it to make a creamy coconutty fish curry which was yummy.

SarahBeenysBumblingApprentice · 10/06/2014 22:24

Evening everyone.

lowcarb I haven't had time to post today but was lurking and read what you were saying bout wanting to cheat. I feel exactly the same at the moment - I'm sure that cutting out dairy makes it a bit harder. For me, dairy is a real comfort food. Well done on not giving in.

Anyway, today, rather than the lump of sugary rubbish that I keep thinking about, I had fresh raspberries and vanilla cream. Bloody lovely and a real treat! Much better than falling off the wagon.

I'm getting a little fed up with the scales bouncing around and I think there are too many days when I have just a little bit of cheese, or just a couple of squares of chocolate. I'm managing true ubercamp about 50% of the time.

Having said all that, the true weight app is great. When I'm feeling a bit ho hum about three Mondays at the same weight I have a sneaky little look at the graph!

Has anyone got any good ubercamp recipes? One of the problems I'm having is that I'm not actually that big a meat eater so I like lots of flavourings with it to liven it up a bit. My favourite low carb recipe is Cranks aubergine and halloumi and that's out at the moment!

spamm · 11/06/2014 02:40

Hmmm - not a good day today. But I hope it does not derail me. The scales were moving in the right direction this morning, but I added coconut powder to my yogurt this morning and I completely misread the carbs/serving - so took in loads more carbs than I planned - I think around 30 g just for that, although it seems a lot. Uuughhh - you live and learn. I will certainly be more careful!

Anyway - good to see all the people on the thread today. Posting from my phone - so cannot call out names. But sleep well and keep on losing!

JimmyCorkhill · 11/06/2014 05:56

SarahBeeny I have cut dairy out for weeks now and it wasn't as difficult as I thought even though I was previously existing on Greek yog, halloumi and cream (not together!) I had some roasted halloumi as part of my dinner for a treat on Monday and even though I was full the cravings that evening were unbearable. Without dairy I have no cravings at all and never snack.

I drink BPC, black coffee or water. Breakfast is egg in a cup. I have a LOT of homemade mayo. Dinners are usually some form of meat and lots of veg dripping in butter.
