Time for the new thread ...

Am on iPad and have no time to link to the Spreadsheet, but please talk here! Will do links later (unless some kind soul could do them for me)

Jimmy that's essentially the problem - meat and veg are alright but about a million miles away from what I'd choose to eat and after a while I start to get fed up of it. I don't need to eat breakfast everyday but have recently discovered that I need to eat it some days!

Today hopefully will be:
B- BPC
L: BIWI's coleslaw and sardines
D: dairy free courgette fritters (recipe thread), roast aubergine, salad, coriander mayo.

I'll have some pork crackling if I'm hungry.

Right, I'm making a promise in front of you lot because I find that helps me: Ubercamp until the end of Sunday.

Happy bootcamping everyone.

Morning all,

Bit knackered this morning but very happy with this woe, was in town getting a haircut yesterday, and released my attitude is changing, I'm starting to walk tall again looking forward instead of slouched shoulders, and it reflected in the people I encountered. Smile

this may be a daft question but whats ubercamp?

Report
StuntNun · 11/06/2014 07:30

Pisses ubercamp is a very low carb no dairy version of Bootcamp useful for working out if dairy is stalling you or for kickstarting weight loss if you're stalled or if you've been experiencing carb creep. There are recipes and shopping lists on a tab on the Spreadsheet.

Morning all. A good morning on the scales for a cheeky mid-week weigh-in. I think my scales know when it's Monday morning. Today I'm over 2lbs down from Monday. Thanks to the True Weight app, I too can enjoy the downward trend and not worry too much about Mondayitis.

Can someone remind me again what's in a BPC? I have finally got some coconut cream but now it appears I need coconut oil instead….

Supermum - based on your food yesterday, I don't think you're eating enough, but I"m sure an expert will be along soon. Chicken breast is v low fat. And don't weigh your lettuce - life's too short! I just chuck a couple of handfuls on my plate.

Just keep on keeping on - and drink even MORE water while the weather's so hot.

Sarah that's so interesting you were in the same boat. It really does make this much more restrictive, doesn't it? All worth it if you are losing but if you aren't sure you are it gets much harder. I feel much better for my yogurt yesterday.
I had a bad night with breathing problems but have my first counselling session today. Partly I want to talk about the feelings that come up when I've not got the crutch of comfort eating, and I want to start talking about what a lower body lift will be like and how I will cope because I'm already terrified. Going feels a really important part of this woe, for me. Like I'm making real permanent changes.
Pork belly tonight, yum.

Super it doesn't sound like enough food. I would agree, chicken breast is too lean, one egg is too small an amount of food. Two eggs and least! For lunch you could have had lots more veg too. Don't be afraid of veg. You have have been starving!

Hello all

I hope you dont mind me gatecrashing the thread as i am not an official BC'er who signed up in May but i have just finished my first week on BC (6lb lost!) really enjoying LC as never ever tried it before. Is it okay to ask questions and post menus on this thread?

B - mushrooms and scrambled eggs (loads of butter) coffee with cream
L -mini broccoli and feta frittata with salad or veg
D - tuna steak (cooked in coconut oil) and salad with oil dressing

I keep reading about BPC which i will try next week (just ordered a coffee whisk thing) do people have this in place of breakfast?
Also i keep reading about fat bombs, are these okay to have once BC has finished or is it a maintenance things?

I'll try not to post too many questions, thanks Smile

Welcome, DoI! That's a brilliant loss.

Grr, Spam that's so annoying, realising you've spunked a load of carbs just like that. Don't let it get you down, petal.

Right. I'm officially pissed off. 3.5lbs on since last week, 2lbs since Monday. I have done nothing wrong at all that I can think of. I feel really heavy and lumpen and starting to doubt this whole thing. The constant 2 steps forward, 1 step back means I've lost a grand total of 7lbs in 12 weeks and that was all in the first 2 weeks. Given the improvement in my eating habits (basically 100% sugar) I can't understand why the weight isn't dropping off. I have a good 4st to lose, so it's not as if it's that last few difficult pounds I need to lose. I'm trying to keep Trashcan & Stuntnun's initial struggles in mind as motivation but it's getting difficult.

What do you think, am I eating too much / enough / the wrong things? I'd rather stay fat than go dairy free.

B: 180g (4 heaped dsp) Lidl ff greek yoghurt, 50ml double cream, 10g flaxseed, sprinkle cinnamon. Cup of tea with semi skimmed milk.
L: Monday: 2 burgers with cheese on top. Tuesday: Chicken tikka with 1/2 bag of salad and 1/2 pot of tsaziki. Handful of frozen berries with about 50m of double cream.
D: Monday: large BLT salad (easy on the tomatoes) with chive dressing. Tuesday: Salt & chilli pork belly with homemade coleslaw.
S: a couple of fat bombs, coffee with cream or BPC. Green tea with jasmine (divine, try it!)
4l of water on Monday, 3 yesterday.

Sorry for me me me / massive moan. I used to be lines by the way.

Morning all. I adore coconut cream, I could just spoon it from the tin.
It varies quite a bit from tin to tin carb-wise doesn't it? I think the lowest I found was Waitrose Organic at 3.9 (most expensive, bloody typical)

Report
TolchockLovelyInTheLitso · 11/06/2014 09:56

I noticed that too Ewan. I suspect the values on the Waitrose basics coconut cream are a misprint as they're identical to their basics Coconut milk values.

EwanHoozami · 11/06/2014 09:59

Tolchock that is frustrating. Deffo not TOTM? That bastard always puts 4lb on me for a few days.

Your meals look OK to me. Flax stalls some I think, and I find that the relative sweetness of the berries throws me off track unless I'm firmly in ketosis.

Looking for hidden carbs, and I'm being really picky here, but were the tikka and chive dressings homemade or shop bought?

I know what you mean about not wanting to ditch dairy. Without cheese and cream there's no way I could LC long term. But have you tried cutting down on it for a couple of weeks?

Waaahhh!! major craving issue last night. I baked some rolls for me kids lunchboxes and over cooked them slightly so they were really crisp. I was just imagining how delicious they would be covered with butter..

I resisted but that really surprised me. No craving for chocolate, cake, biscuits etc but boring old bread??

Report
TolchockLovelyInTheLitso · 11/06/2014 10:20

Thanks Ewan. Tikka & dressing both shop bought, but coincidentally, both 1.9g carbs per 100g. I may ditch the flax. It's in there to help nature take its course. Cough.

Was it the smell of them baking Irian? That was probably the best bit, but hard not to trigger cravings. Well done for overcoming them.

Thank you, i imagine my 6lb loss is the stopage of wine consumption over the last week!

Agree i don't think i could do this withough diary, i'm only on week 2 so hoping that it doesn't stall me when i start BClite.

Are fat bombs permitted on BClite?

Also, i have a girls night out on saturday which has been planned for ages so will be going and will try and restrict my alcohol intake but will be partaking in a few, if i eat LC will i be falling down drunk after 2 drinks??? what do people recommend, just have your night out take it as easy as you can and get straight back on LC the next day even with a hangover

CQ · 11/06/2014 10:35

Bread is my biggest weakness Irian. Could never walk past the bread bin. It is now in a cupboard and not on the worktop and much easier to ignore. I've bought so little bread lately, it made me realise that I was the one eating it all practically.

This morning I actually popped a piece of DD's uneaten marmitey toast in my mouth. Then somehow I stopped myself in shock, took it out of my mouth and gave it to the dog!!

Dogs are doing v well from this woe by the way - they get all the kids' leftovers that I would normally snarf. May need to put them on a diet soon Grin

Doineedhelp you'll probably find that after only 1 or 2 glasses you'll feel very drunk, get a horrible headache and feel really really rubbish and exhausted the next day, all day. That's what I found anyway! Have a large bottle of water on hand all evening.

Make sure you have plenty of low carb foods on hand for the next day so you can graze away your hangover without derailing. Big fry up is a good start if you're not too queasy!

Tolchock - I would think that the Tikka & dressing had lots of sugars in them. I would suggest that you have a week back on bootcamp and see how you feel afterwards?

doineedhelp - The problem, apart from the reported incidents of people feeling immediately ruff, is that your taking in sugar from the alcohol and (if I've got it right) your body will immediately revert to form and use this as fuel and again crave carbs.
Im not saying don't do it more drink in moderation and be ready for feeling like hell and perhaps (my answer to everything) go back on bootcamp Smile

SarahBeeny - Would you be able to make a curry using paste or is that not allowed on ubercamp? Pataks do a nice madras spice one that is only 7.2g carbs per 100g which works out at 2.4g per serving. You have to add 100g tinned tomatoes per person but if you get the tesco own brand cheapy ones they are only 3g carbs per 100g. I made it last night, left out the onion but added some mushrooms and chicken breast. Served with 200g cauliflower rice the whole thing comes in at 9.4g per serving.

Other ideas, sorry if you've already tried them:

  • Fish/chicken wrapped in foil with oil and herbs (and a few halved cherry tomatoes if they are allowed and you like them) baked in the oven and served with courgetti/spinach fried in olive/coconut oil with garlic and mushrooms.

  • Celeriac and mushroom soup minus the cream with the veg sautéed in oil instead of butter.

  • Pot roast beef/pork/lamb etc. (800g-1kg) with herbs, a tin of tomatoes, 1 pint stock, mushrooms, chorizo, chuck in whatever other veg you like. Cover and cook for 1 1/2 - 2 hours, adjust cooking times and amounts depending on the number of people you're feeding.

I don't know if any of that is helpful, I'm not 100% sure of the rules for ubercamp, but it's all dairy free and as long as the veg used is off the approved list and portion sizes are sensible it's all low carb.

Supermum - I agree with others, it looks like you're not eating enough. It's really important to eat enough calories when trying to loose weight otherwise our bodies go into starvation mode, slowing down out metabolism and holding on to fat. Try upping your food intake and see if that helps, if you're still stuck after increasing your calories, getting plenty of fat and your drinking at least 2-3l water a day then you might want to look at cutting out nuts or dairy. Some people find they have problems with dairy, I stall with nuts and berries, it's a bit of a juggling act at first to find what works for you as we all respond differently to different things and what works for some won't work for others. One of the great things about bootcamp is that you don't need to weigh anything, as long as you stick to veg off the approved list and don't go crazy you should be just fine Smile

CQ - BPC is coffee with butter, coconut oil and double cream (optional). You could probably just put coconut cream in coffee, with butter if you wanted. I would think it would still taste nice but it wouldn't be as high in fat.

lowcarbforthewin - Good luck for today, I hope it goes well and you get a lot out of it Smile.

doineedhelp - Welcome, we're a real mix of long term, start date and newer bootcampers here so don't worry about that Grin. Some people have BPC in place of breakfast as part of intermittent fasting but it's not meant to be a meal replacement, if your hungry then you should eat, no reason why you cant have a BPC and breakfast Wink. Fat bombs are, I believe, allowed on bootcamp light and there are a few recipes knocking about. Be careful with them though, most of them have some chocolate/nuts/nut butter in them so can add up very quickly. Post as many questions as you like, we're all here to support each other.

Tolchock - I would try cutting out the flax, it's know to cause stalling for some, also maybe reduce the amount of yoghurt your having to 3 spoons as it is a bit carby. Other than that try upping fats and keep an eye on berries, I can't eat them without stalling. It might just be something as simple as water retention or that your just at a plateau right now though, I've been bobbing between the same two pounds for almost 2 weeks now and it does get frustrating, massive sympathies for everyone who has sts for weeks on end! But hopefully if we just keep on keeping on we will see a downward trend at some point (sooner than later I hope).

IrianofWay - Proper bread sings a siren song to me too, especially when I have soup or stew type meals. I just don't have it in the house, everyone else here likes nasty, sliced, plastic bread and I can't stand it so I don't have to try too hard to resist that.

I felt rough when I woke up this morning, I've got some king of chest bug that's making my voice all croaky and I think I'll probably loose it again as it feels similar to when I lost my voice last time which it still hasn't completely recovered from. I made myself a BPC to try to help me feel better but forgot to add the cream and couldn't work out what I had done wrong, it was ok but not great so when I realised what the problem was I obviously had to make myself another one with cream Grin. All the chat yesterday about clothes not fitting gave me a push to bite the bullet and order some new ones in the next size down. I ordered sale stuff just in case it doesn't fit but I figured even if it's all still too small as long as I stick to it I should fit into it at some point in the near future.
