Time for the new thread ...

Am on iPad and have no time to link to the Spreadsheet, but please talk here! Will do links later (unless some kind soul could do them for me)

My condolences Spamm Flowers Hope you and your DH are doing okay.

Hissy I completely admire your resilience in light of your circumstances. Be kind to yourself.

I have been dairy free for weeks now. It's been a real boost to my weight loss and has stopped all cravings - I NEVER snack. However...I have been really crap this week at getting meals organised. Basically having a BPC for breakfast, eggs in a cup for lunch and then panicking at dinner time because I don't have the right ingredients. So today I bought some Greek yogurt and cream because I was HUNGRY and didn't want to wait for anything to cook. Well it ain't agreed with me is all I'm saying. Does that mean I can't tolerate dairy? Say it ain't so Sad

miffy49 · 13/06/2014 22:37

I think thats what worries me. I know from my experiences with gluten and nightshades that once you give up something that you have an intolerance to you seem to quickly lose all ability to tolerate even small amounts. I adore cheese and my creamy Greek yoghurt. They are so useful and make life bearable. I suppose the question is do I want to lose the rest of the weight enough to risk the possibilty of yet another food intolerance or do I put up with being a couple of stones overweight and have a more varied (and enjoyable) diet.

trashcanjunkie · 13/06/2014 23:20

Hello everybody, there are some amazing posts out there. I'm so moved by what has been honestly shared.

Welcome back Hissy - I totally get what you're saying. Acknowledging it to yourself has got to be part of moving forwards, so that's painful but good for you I think.

Spamm man, that's harsh. Massive love to you and your little family xxx

HolgerDanske · 13/06/2014 23:32

Hmmm sorry just figured out that it was locarblil who I meant to offer flowers to in response to recent sharing on this thread and not you, lowcarbforthewin. In case you were wondering what on earth I was referring to, heh!

Maybe I'll just say flowers to everyone, just because we deserve it for keeping on :-)

Scousadelic · 14/06/2014 01:30

Thanks for adding me to the spreadsheet Sayra.

Am well and truly ticked off again. Bought a new phone from Tesco Direct, nothing on it at all specifying network, DH asked in the shop but they were clueless, got it and it has a Tesco Sim in and won't connect to O2 . It didn't say anywhere that it was tied to their network until you'd bought it Angry

Thank you all so much - it means a lot that people simply say something. DS declared today the worst Friday 13th ever - but he is 9 and dramatic like his mom.

We are doing ok. We have all kept busy today and I have done ok with my food - i really was good, and I was dying for a glass of wine tonight, but am drinking water and green tea. I think this woe makes it easier to resist, because I am not as hungry as I would be with insulin spikes.

DH is coping better than I thought he would - he has not told anybody, typical for him trying to pretend nothing is up. But he did post something on facebook and his mates are now offering help and kind thoughts, so I take that as a breakthrough.

I really appreciate ALL your kind words. Keep on keeping on!

Morning everyone.

Hope you and your DH are coping Spam. It's at times like these that things can really be put in to perspective I feel, glad that your DH is now getting help from his friends.

On a trivial note, does anyone have any low carb suggestions for crisps? They are often my downfall.

It's so lovely again outside I may have to get in to the swing of what I can eat when I'm away from home. The trusty sandwich or pasty need to be replaced!

pingufan · 14/06/2014 09:15

Good morning all, I'm so sorry to hear about your bad news Spamm hope you are all ok xx

Ooolaroola I have pork scratchings as my evening 'treat' now and again - I buy the awfully posh sea salted ones from amazon - they come in a box of 12. I saw them recommended on here so I'm not sure if pub pork scratchings are the same - maybe the carbs are higher on those. The Posh ones are 0g carb and delicious

A sneaky jump on the scales this morning is showing 1lb loss despite being right in the middle of totm. I'm 13st which still may sound a lot but when I consider I was 13st 7lb when I got pregnant 14 years ago and had further crept up to 14st 11lb by the time I started this WOE in March of this year I can't believe it.

I think the last time I was under 13st was probably 16 years ago!

I must have had some kind of body dysmorphia as I didn't really believe I was that big despite my size 18's feeling tight. I must have looked enormous to everyone else - I'm embarrased really as I still feel quite fat now so god knows what I must have looked like nearly 2st heavier

Anyway, yesterdays food
B - 2 buttered scrambled eggs
L - chicken with oily salad and mayo
D - wasn't very hungry so ate some feta cheese, cucumber sticks and a packet of pork scratchings

Today
B - BPC
L - probably some tuna / salad
D - tonight we are having a BBQ so I've got some steaks / chicken / some jalapeno premium burgers from Aldi with only 2g carb/100g
This will be a test as there will be a selection of food available so I'm going to be mindful of portion sizes and stop when I am full opposed to my usual of keeping on eating just because its there...wish me luck ;)

Have a good day everyone x

antimatter · 14/06/2014 09:27

Spam I am thinking about you and sending love

Body dysmorphism - I am right there! Size 20-22 not that long ago and thinking I am not that big etc.... but hated how I looked at most photos Smile.

I am heading towards breaking below 14 stones next week I hope!

Just read more about Fodmaps and AIP Paleo as I het v.bad rash and terrible dry skin on my feet. I need to eliminate some food to get to the bottom of it.

JimmyCorkhill · 14/06/2014 10:30

miffy that's interesting but annoying Grin I only cut the dairy out to speed up weight loss. I was looking forward to adding it back. I was also considering cutting out nightshades to see if it cleared up my psoriasis but don't want to be left with nothing to eat at all!

Good luck Pingu

lowcarbforthewin · 14/06/2014 12:16

If you are missing crisps both courgette crisps and kale chips are excellent replacements. Lots of recipes online but they are both easy to make. I love them.

I have a party this evening. I want to commit to not cheating. It will be hard today just because I'm very tired and have low blood pressure, and my body is trying to get me to eat carbs and my resistance is low, but I did it a week ago so I can do it now. Planning a nice meal tomorrow so I can remind myself I have that to look forward to if I don't chest.

EwanHoozami · 14/06/2014 12:54

Miffy It's intriguing that reintroducing food groups amplifies the symptoms of intolerance to them. do you have any sign of sensitivity to dairy at the moment?

lowcarbforthewin you're dang right you can do it again! Can you rest a bit before the party so you don't feel so drained?

EwanHoozami · 14/06/2014 12:54

WHOA! sorry Blush

miffy49 · 14/06/2014 13:30

JimmyCorkhill, EwanHoozami I only found out about nightshades when I went low carb. I had already cut out certain things because of the oxalate levels affecting my 'undercarriage'! I do find I have scope with oxalate though provided I stay strictly gluten free. If I accidentally eat something contaminated with gluten I have to be careful or things can escalate quickly and its like sitting on broken glass. After I'd been low carb for awhile I noticed that if I cheated and sneaked the odd potato or ate peppers my arthritis would flare badly. I think there are certain links with forms of arthritis and psoriasis but I don't know if it involves nightshades.

The big pain with nightshade is that it also leaves you having to find a way round a lot of things like curry and other spicy dishes as nightsahdes encompass things like chilli and paprika. I use a Sri Lankan curry powder blend which is chilli free and I add extra ginger to get a bit of heat but its a nuisance as paprika especially is in so many flavourings.

At the moment I don't believe dairy bothers me but I am taking the precaution of not cutting it out all together as I know my intollerance to gluten and nightsahdes is much worse since I cut them right out. With dairy its just the weight thing and stalling thats the pain!

lowcarbforthewin · 14/06/2014 13:33

Grin Ewan! Thanks. And yes, spending the whole day in bed staring at the ceiling so I can get out later. Pain in the bum but it's the price I have to pay. I just tried answering the phone with my ear plugs in, couldn't hear a word they were saying!! Just have to get enough rest that I can actually stand without feeling I'm feeling I'm going to pass out later. I hate my body!

lowcarbforthewin · 14/06/2014 13:35

And I have heard of sensitivities increasing if you cut out a food group. I have heard of someone with mild asthma who cut out gluten for a month, ate some bread and had a severe asthma attack. You have to be careful. I really should experiment with giving up nightshades, eggs and nuts but I just can't cut more stuff. It's too hard. At least having dropped dairy I can eat it without suffering, I just stop losing weight.

antimatter · 14/06/2014 13:46

miffy49 - powdered coriancer aka mustard seeds can give you kick in your curries
so does fresh ginger
are you making your own curry powders too?

Birdinacage · 14/06/2014 13:50

Good afternoon everyone, yesterday evening was a real test for me as everyone else had dominos pizza with starters, pudding and pop but I was strong and didn't give in.

Interesting stuff about sensitivities to different things, don't know much about it all really so this is all fascinating for me Smile

miffy49 · 14/06/2014 13:54

I tend to buy the curry powder. I buy in proper Sri Lankan cinnamon for cinnamon tea and found that they also do various spice blends. I do add fresh ginger to currys to give heat and we aren't into very hot things anyway. I've also found that Sainsburys garam masala is chilli free too which is useful as I like to add it to roasted cauliflower. Smile

EwanHoozami · 14/06/2014 14:14

Talking of spice mixes, I have a packet of hibiscus mix in the cupboard that has hibiscus flowers, cassia cinnamon and bay leaves. Apparently you can pour boiling water on it, strain and chill to make a lovely drink. You've inspired me!

Hissy · 14/06/2014 14:22

Ewan I have a whole bag ful of hibiscus flowers at home too, Karkaday as it's known in Egypt is drunk both hot and cold. It's delicious! :D

antimatter · 14/06/2014 14:40

miffy - garam masala by definition has no chilli
I think of it as sweet curry powder Smile

my ex is from Sri Lanka so I know their flavours
sri lankan style curry powder is made out of roasted spices and have pieces of cinnamon bark in them
