Just in case you've lost the link Here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I hope that your first week has been rewarded by good news on the scales.

Good luck for the next week Flowers

lowcarbforthewin - many reasons why others would loose weight faster
1/ they are larger than you, often by 20-40%
2/ The older you get the harder it is to loose weight
3/ you may not be getting enough sleep
4/ you may be more stressed
ets.... etc....
Just keep at it, you'll find your right balance of carbs/fat/protein to start going

(I am assuming you are 100% following rules, you may have stick to them for longer, I know I will as any inclusion of fruit would stall me)

HolgerDanske · 16/05/2014 11:17

I have to keep, reminding myself that last time I did this I had much more weight to lose so it's natural that I saw better returns much more quickly.

Slow and steady, slow and steady.

lowcarbforthewin · 16/05/2014 11:54

Thank you guys. Yes, on the whole 30 the nuts and berries didn't stall me in small amounts so you're quite right, that is good compensation. I absolutely love berries.
I am very sedentary so it might just be one of those things that people who lose weight with dairy are naturally much more active;I mean I'm not even doing the general rushing about which is involved with running a home, looking after children... I am pretty much just laid flat in bed day after day. I do a bit of gentle gardening but that's it.
I feel better for having a moan. I guess I'm just really scared I'll cut the dairy, do everything else right and week after week get on the scales and be the same weight.

Lighthousekeeping · 16/05/2014 11:56

I need to up my water intake. I find it very difficult when I'm not at work. I'm going to tackle celeric chips tonight, what's the best way to do them? Parboil or straight in?

Birdinacage · 16/05/2014 12:00

lowcarbforthewin I know it can be hard to see others eating things that you find you can't have and still maintain weight loss but when you see others eating dairy with no stalling issues try not to get frustrated as it's likely that they have a similar problem with something that you are fine with. For example dairy doesn't stall me at all however even one nut seems to stop me in my tracks and any more than that causes me to gain, so I can't really eat any nuts and still loose which cuts out quite a lot of the snacky/pudding options for me. With this WOE it seems to take a while to figure out exactly what works for you as it seems to differ for every individual. All I can say is just keep on keeping on and remember that 'not for now' doesn't mean forever and you will be able to have dairy again in the future, just try to find something you really like that doesn't stall you as a treat until then :).

lowcarbforthewin · 16/05/2014 12:45

Thank you bird.

I'm coming from a background of many years of low fat diets - I did WW for a year, for example, stuck to it religiously and lost and regained the same couple of pounds the whole year. Other people would come in going 'oh I ate 3 takeaways and a bar of chocolate and look I've lost 4 pounds this week!' It definitely hit a nerve.

But you're quite right. That sucks that nuts do that to you. It's amazing how different we all are. And at least with me I stay the same weight if I eat dairy so I can introduce it again one day.

LittleMissDisorganized · 16/05/2014 13:35

lowcarbforthewin well done on getting your moan out of your system. It's infuriating, isn't it - and it's not even cheating, which is extra infuriating - when your body doesn't seem to be processing things like others do. You are a positive person, I've seen that in the short time you've been here, despite what sound like hugely challenging circumstance. You also seem very self aware and so I am sure you'll find yourself a compromise.

StuntNun brilliant - I bet you looked great!

Minty has very wise words regarding people sabotaging you but Jimmy I agree it is grim when people try to push their issues on you. I've had some good, on track meals out but they have to be with very good friends.

I had an appointment bright and early this morning - looks like I'll be back to work in a couple of weeks - but my ultimate navy work trousers are too big. aaargh - good problem, but they are a major staple of my work wardrobe. The best pair of work trousers I had, except now they look a bit odd, in that kind of unfitting way that clothes go.

I am spending tomorrow afternoon decorating meringues with small children - I will NOT lick my fingers. I will NOT.....!!!!

JaneParker · 16/05/2014 13:41

lowcarb, I've never lost more than a pound a week in any way of eating over my whole life (I've mostly only eaten paleo/low carb, high fat, medium protein for 4 or 5 years now). I've never been more than a stone over weight too and I am sure that is part of it. Also most ways of eating/diets always say one pound a week is good actually. I can eat too much even if I cut out dairy but I know I am better without cheese and cream. I seem to manage to pack in much more foods than others on this way of eating. My breakfasts eg seem about 3x what most people eat - 2 slices of bacon friend in olive oil 3 eggs, peppers etc. Someone else will have some tiny quantity of yoghurt but for me achieving stability and losing weight slowly is much more important than a quick fix.

Calories do play a part. If you look at sites like Reddit keto, which I would recommend to people as there are some good posts on there, you will see some people counting what they eat and some not. I never like to. I cannot be bothered and for the long term if you are just changing your way of eating for life which is what I've done counting is not really part of that. However some people do manage to eat so much protein they take themselves out of ketosis or never into it . I have deliberately upped fats. 2 meals a day for example are fried and I add to that lots of butter on top of my veg too. (Butter does not seem to make my nose run and throat hurt like milk/cream do).

Sorry for rambling post. I suppose my point is try cutting out dairy but perhaps have no nuts either (or fruit) and see how that goes.

Birdinacage · 16/05/2014 13:42

It's ok, I know that I could eat the nuts if I wanted to but I've decided that I would much rather fit into all my lovely clothes again that are currently packed away in the attic since they are all too small now. There are so many delicious things that I can still eat which still allow me to loose weight that I don't really mind not having them.

I do understand that it can be disheartening to see others loosing seemingly effortlessly but I try now to just focus on me. If my weight is going down, however slowly, then fantastic, if it's stalled then it's not the end of the world I just need to work out why and if it's going up then obviously I am doing something wrong and need to sort it out Wink. I found that comparing myself to other people could really knock my confidence and make it hard to stick to it and not just give up so I now try not to worry about how I'm doing compared to everyone else, it can be hard though and sometimes we all feel a bit disappointed or frustrated.

WeShouldOpenABar · 16/05/2014 13:48

Sorry haven't posted for a couple of days , just been out for lunch and had chicken skewers and salad , delicious . Resisted pudding and coffee for a peppermint tea and didn't feel deprived at all , so that's feels excellent .

CQ · 16/05/2014 14:46

V excited - just found the Idiot Proof Diet book in our Oxfam bookshop for £1.99. I know lots of good recipes come from there for post-bootcamp so am very happy to have found it. Looks like a fun read too.

Went for a 5.5 mile run this morning with 120 squats and 160 lunges thrown in for fun Confused My running buddy is hardcore. I have seized up. But hoping to see a reflection of this pain on those scales tomorrow Grin

lowcarbforthewin · 16/05/2014 14:57

Thank you everyone. The support here is amazing and so appreciated.

Congratulations on the job Weshould. Brilliant news.

Congratulations Weshould!

Bird - I can't eat nuts either without causing myself problems. I bloody love nuts too, but brazils especially cause me real problems weightwise. I can just about get away with almonds, but not really any others. :(

BIWI · 16/05/2014 15:56

Oh bloody hell! We're working on a project on Magnums at the moment, and everyone is eating them in the office.

OP posts:
Thumbwitch · 16/05/2014 15:59

Oh that's harsh, BIWI - not the special silver magnums for their 25th Anniversary? They're very nice, I had one while I was over in the UK, actually almost tasted of champagne!
Cruel...

BIWI · 16/05/2014 16:28

Thankfully it wasn't Magnums, it was 'just' tubs of ice-cream. And I managed to resist.

OK - bit of a difficult day today. I just need to stay strong and on track.

I only got about 2 hours of broken sleep last night, as we had terrible storms and about 4.5 inches of rain, and I was up making sure our basement did not flood.

Then when I got to work, the company announced a total restructuring of our businesses, so we are inheriting a very substantial part of another business area, my team is growing by at least 6 people and my area of responsibility is doubling. Very exciting, but a little overwhelming. I have been wondering past the basket of chocolates on the receptionist's desk and ignoring them or at least trying to while furiously sipping sparkling water.

So far:
B: leftover courgettes and mushrooms in cream, with turkey sausages
L: no idea - but a cold salad will not cut it. I am going to go across the road to the kebab house and see if i can get a hot chicken salad instead
D: hmmm - will figure that out later...

spamm · 16/05/2014 16:58

hmm not wondering - I am wandering.

Well done WeShould - great news on the new job!

Lowcarb - You can do this, we are all here to support each other through this!

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 16/05/2014 17:00

I feel really rubbish today, have had to be close to the facilities all day. Managed the water, but only eaten mushrooms in butter with cream, 2 boiled eggs and mayo. Pork chops and veg for tea, but I want it now, not in an hour.

readyforno2 · 16/05/2014 17:07

Checking in early as I am starting a Zumba step class tonight.. Anyone heard of it/done it?

Anyway
B - Greek yog
L - scrambled eggs and butter, mushrooms
D - 2 sausages, broccoli and cauliflower cheese, wilted spinach with garlic

Probably will have some kind of snack later but not sure what yet. Also, I really haven't drunk enough water today so best get to it!

pingufan · 16/05/2014 17:11

Today's menu, I had a wicked headache this morning but it went as soon as I ate

B - 2 eggs scrambled in butter with 2 slices of ham
L - tuna in sunflower oil with lettuce, cucumber and mayo
D - beef mince homemade burgers ( mix in a little onion, egg white and salt n pepper) with peppers and mushrooms fried in the lovely beef mince fat. A little grated cheese on top

Is this ok please? Feeling a bit bloated but totm is not far away I think

JimmyCorkhill · 16/05/2014 17:40

Thanks for the wise words Minty.

I have looked at the menus of the two places we will likely eat at tonight and I can get steak (expensive) or half a roast chicken at both venues. One with salad and one I can switch the chips for buttered mushrooms. I'll have a coffee (hopefully with cream) for pudding.

I was on Slimming World for the last year and switched to low carb/paleo style eating a few months ago (although not as strict as bootcamp!). I think because I've lost the majority of weight I needed to (3 stone so far) that people think I shouldn't be on a 'diet' anymore. But I see this as my new way of eating for good. Even on SW I ate tons of crap, just within their boundaries. I feel so much better on this WOE. Once I'm secure with lots of recipes I will be transitioning the family over as much as possible!

I posted before about never usually drinking water. I felt quite crappy when I started to but this is day 5 (I started a week after you all) and I can't stop drinking it today! Not in a desperate thirst quenching way but, wait for it....in an "I want a glass of water, it's so nice and refreshing' way!!!! I am Shock
