So how did you all get on?

Just in case you've lost the link Here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I hope that your first week has been rewarded by good news on the scales.

Good luck for the next week Flowers

I don't think it's ever too late to join boot camp!

Many people will only boot camp for two weeks and then go on to boot camp lite, but i am planning to boot camp for at least another four weeks so you will have one companion at least Smile

There are a few rules to follow on the first May low carb thread.

Flakedalmond · 15/05/2014 09:41

Good to know that I'll have company. Thanks HolgerDanske!

Now to get my head around the rules and brave the dreaded scales...

JimmyCorkhill · 15/05/2014 09:48

Phew, thanks for the tips on salt etc to counter balance the water consumption. I NEVER usually drink water but have been glugging it down for bootcamp, plus I've been going to bed REALLY early... and I feel like shit Sad Yep, tired and headachy as described on recent posts. I am not scientific so why is a stock cube/marmite different to adding salt to meals?

Also a big thank you to the egg in the cup folks, my Dad had this as his work sandwich filling for my entire childhood and I always thought it was because we were too poor to have egg mayonnaise (which I called 'wedding egg' as that's the only time I came across it Grin) Glad to know it's a proper thing on its own!

IWillIfHeWill · 15/05/2014 09:54

2lb up after eating like a fool yesterday. Back on the wagon and about to start on the water.

pingufan · 15/05/2014 09:57

Argh - whats happened ( I am a daily weigher I know I shouldnt) but i've gone up a pound this morning :(

Maybe too much cheese yesterday?

No cheese today!

glenthebattleostrich · 15/05/2014 10:00

Can't stop eating today.

B bacon and spinach
S feta cheese and pork scratchings
L bolognese and salad
T chicken stuffed with mushrooms and chorizo big green salad and tomatoes

1.5 litres of water down + 1 cup of tea with cream.

Need to do some cleaning and laundry, hopefully that'll distract me from the fridge.

I appear to have lost lots of carby bloat and have fitted into a size 14 dress today :-)

WeShouldOpenABar · 15/05/2014 10:37

I feel so shitty not sure if carb flu or actually sick , I can't seem to quench my thirst and the waters gone off Sad Sad

BIWI · 15/05/2014 11:13

If you can't quench your thirst, that's a sign you're not eating enough sodium - so add more salt to your food, or drink a hot drink made with Oxo/Marmite/Bovril.

pisseslikeahorse - why are you feeling down?! You've lost almost a stone! You should be cheering from the rooftops! Seriously. A bit of perspective is needed here, I think.

pingufan - it's quite normal for your body to fluctuate like this. It's a really important thing to bear in mind if you're a daily weigher. If you can't cope with the times when the scales go up, then please don't weigh daily, but leave it till once a week. It's the overall trend that matters.

OP posts:
pingufan · 15/05/2014 11:22

Cheers BIWI I need a bit of perspective I suppose as I've lost 20lbs in 8 weeks which is pretty quick.

However quick it is it never feels quick enough though. I'm almost comfortably into a size 16 but some things are still a bit tight on me. I don't feel right in any clothes at the moment - my 18's look horrible yet the 16's a bit 'fitting'.

I didn't realise how much difference there is in the clothes size x

Pisseslikeahorse · 15/05/2014 11:26

CQ - I'm alive, it was very hard and the sun didn't help. Nothing like my normal times and still feel as if i'm lacking the strength to go.
lots of short 500m intervals to get to the end, helped.

It gave me some time to battle my Demons and as such I will now hydrate and eat, reduce tomorrow and Saturdays running times down.
And I will make a point of more sleep.

Have to say it - worlds always better after a run Smile

Pisseslikeahorse · 15/05/2014 11:32

BIWI - Yes your absolutely right, I have and I need to stop whinging and get over this hump and into Ketosis.

lowcarbforthewin · 15/05/2014 12:02

If you are weighing yourself daily, please have a read of this. You won't regret it.

I read a lot about this subject when I started Paleo, and it really resonated with me. I weight myself once a week but the stuff I read really stressed how if you're overweight your self esteem is tied up far too much in a number, which is going to fluctuate anway according to time of the month, fluid, etc. It's been really liberating for me.

lookingforhope · 15/05/2014 12:52

OK BCers - help required - here is my menu for tonight's set meal. It's not as bad as it could be. How much damage do you reckon this will do? (thank heavens I am not a vegetarian, they have no chance! Grin)

Reckon if I swerve the croutons and potatoes, the starters and main are OK. Worried about the dessert - I might indulge in the berries and cream - but hope I won't be too tempted by the pot of chocolate and lemon shortbread

Not drinking cos driving so that's OK

Any thoughts team????

MENU

Starter:
Oriental vegetable and smoked chicken salad, herb croutons, sweet chilli and ginger dressing

Main:
Pot roasted shank of lamb, hotpot potatoes, Savoy cabbage with crispy bacon, mint gravy
Dessert:
Pot of chocolate, lemon shortbread, berries and cream

Coffee

Vegetarian Menu

Starter:
Pea and shallot risotto cake, coriander butter sauce, rocket and pistachio salad

Main:
Mixed bean and lentil cassoulet, Cheshire cheese and spinach mash

antimatter · 15/05/2014 13:22

I am going to the chemist in the afternoon and get some electrolytes over the counter, will havea some in the evening and have more than 2 l of water tomorrow. I am going to read more about them to understand how quickly they are absorbed etc.
My period also came (light and earlier) so I wonder if that had an impact on how I felt in the last 48 hours.
I am sure I can ding the right balance.
I made meatballs with cauliflower for lunch today and feel full on something what 2 weeks ago would be just be my starter Grin

I definitely feel my jeans getting loose and as I said I take it as a sigh of my internals recovering from wheat/gluten overload.

BIWI · 15/05/2014 13:23

OK - it's not too bad, but this is what I would do:

Oriental vegetable and smoked chicken salad, herb croutons, sweet chilli and ginger dressing

Ditch the croutons, definitely. But the tricky thing is avoiding the dressing as that will be very carby. See if you can have yours served on the side. if it's a sit down meal that's likely to be tricky, as they will be plating up on the kitchen, but if you could email them in advance or grab one of the waiters/waitresses as you sit down that might work

Pot roasted shank of lamb, hotpot potatoes, Savoy cabbage with crispy bacon, mint gravy

No potatoes! Ask for extra cabbage if possible. Try and avoid the gravy as well, as it will most likely be thickened with flour. But not a bad main course for low carbing.

Pot of chocolate, lemon shortbread, berries and cream

In order of preference:

cream
berries
pot of chocolate
lemon shortbread

The chocolate might be OK if it's made from dark chocolate. But probably best - if you have the willpower! - to just go for the berries. Again, you could always email beforehand and ask if you could just have berries and cream.

But above all, enjoy yourself!

notso · 15/05/2014 13:51

I actually have a child free hour and 40 mins, the first in ages Smile

I think I need to get better at breakfast. I don't usually have anything except three cups of tea, have reduced that to one and two glasses of water since I have started low carbing.
I just don't fancy anything then am really hungry by 12ish and eating too much.

I had a bowl and a half of cauliflower cheese soup at 12 and am now tucking into steak with garlic butter, lettuce and american style ranch dressing.

If I have any dinner it will be salmon salad with lemony mayo.

spamm · 15/05/2014 14:01

LookingforHope - I was going to post, but you have advice from the Master LCer there!

Anyway, good start to the day - I have already had 1/2 liter of water so far.

Working from home, so I need to stay on track and not stray to the snacks.

B: scrambled egg with a dash of cream, turkey sausages and fried mushrooms. Decaf Coffee with cream - it is OK without my usual sweetener
L: leftovers - taco casserole and courgettes and mushrooms.
D: probably 1/2 steak (huge American Steaks, so a normal English size steak) with vegetables. Not sure what DH will want, as he will just be off a plane

And water, water, water!

ForeskinHyena · 15/05/2014 14:14

Mmm just had a LC moussaka that has been languishing in my freezer since my last attempt at boot camp. It was surprisingly delish, along with salad with loads of Mayo and a sprinkling of cheese.

Chatting to a friend this morning who is contemplating Lighter Life as she is desperate to do something. It has fortified my resolve to really crack on with this properly, as I know that I'm lucky to have the time to research, plan and cook lovely LC meals from scratch.

Although the food can be expensive, at least being part of boot camp is free and I'm only spending money on good nutritional food.

Visiting family at the weekend and I felt like a pain emailing to ask what they were planning for dinner so that I could bring alternatives if necessary. Luckily they're doing a BBQ with lots of nice salads so there should be plenty we can eat and enjoy without being the 'odd ones out'. Sil is also doing fruit salad, which usually has lots of lovely berries in it, so I'll bring my trusty can of extra thick squirty cream!

petalsandstars · 15/05/2014 15:00

Ooh, just found a recipe for lc paella using cauli rice - will be trying that when I have some time to cook properly

monkeyfacegrace · 15/05/2014 17:23

Oh I can polish my halo today.

Was in town all day so grabbed some chicken tikka and a babybel for breakfast. Then went to Bella Italia for lunch and had steak, salad and mushrooms and managed to drink 2 whole carafes full of tap water with it!

Just had another 2 babybels and some pork scratchings to set me up for a long dog walk.

Well done everyone else. Almost at the 2 week mark and then I get my jelly back, yey!

Parsnipcake · 15/05/2014 18:17

Can I ask about baby sweet corn? On the veg carb counter it's under 3 per 100g, but on my packet ( from morrisons) it's 19 per 100, which seems more what I would expect?

BIWI · 15/05/2014 18:26

Baby sweet corn is a bit controversial! Carb counts vary widely. I think on a previous Bootcamp we concluded that it must be to go with different varieties. I'd go by the info on pack, sadly!

I was at a conference thing this afternoon with a buffet. As I didn't know anyone there, I shamelessly ate the insides of: cheese sandwiches, a lovely mushroom quiche and sausage rolls. I was amazed at the huge amount of bread and pastry filler left on my plate.

I've gone all squishy round the middle suddenly which really is a bit freaky. Dare I hope that's the fat getting ready to depart?

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 15/05/2014 19:37

Halloooo halllay! I've lost two pounds. Today, breakfast salted butter coffee. Lunch bresaola salad with mozzarella and posh olive oil. Dinner was more salad, Westphalian ham and mayo. I have drunk over 3lites of water.
Dh thinks I look thinner.

calzone · 15/05/2014 20:06
