Here's The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

And The Weight Tracker

By now, if everyone has been following Bootcamp/Bootcamp Light rules properly then we should all be keto-adapted, and should be burning fat. Yippee!!

Hope everyone has a good week.

Chester my DH cooked pork belly slices in the deep fat fryer! Not sure I'd recommend it though it did get them crisp.

What brand of coconut oil do people use? I've just finished the Groovy one from Tesco and the new one I have (can't remember the name) is more coconutty somehow.

Has anyone else turned into a fat-obsessed freak? Yesterday I was scoffing bits of chicken skin while carving the roast chicken; then today I carefully saved the rendered bacon fat from breakfast to fry my steak for lunch.

CalamityKate · 12/02/2014 09:39

Stuntnun - yeah I'm a bit fat obsessed too!

I love fat though. I think the reason I've stuck with this - despite griping about stalling and general impatience - is because the food suits me so well. Low fat diets are horrible to me. Leaving the skin off the chicken/cooking with fry light muck/using low fat mayo etc just depresses me. Fat is delicious and filling and satisfying!

PseudoBadger · 12/02/2014 09:44

I still can't do skin or actual fat on meat (apart from bacon). But I love using butter, full fat mayo etc.

CalamityKate · 12/02/2014 09:54

I could quite happily have all the skin on a chicken and less actual meat :)

I've recently discovered the joys of pork belly. In fact I might have it for lunch again. I can honestly say I'd rather have a plate of pork belly fat than a cake.

SteeleyeStan · 12/02/2014 10:05

Mmmm... Crispy chicken skin... drool
Pork fat is supposedly very good for you - lots of MUFA and all that. :)

My slow cooker pork had a predictable fate. DH loved it; I couldn't eat it. It's not going to waste of course - he's gonna eat it all very happily - but just smelling it made me feel sick. Can't wait to have a working oven, so I can roast stuff!

Crabby your poor DD! I'm glad it's not ruining her fun, though.

The berry crumbles and chocolates all look and sound lovely, but it's probably just as well I can't make them! There's no way on earth that I could have any of those sitting in my kitchen and not eat it all!

I don't have a food plan again. Need to do better on that front. Reason is I haven't done a big shopping for this week, so there's nothing here apart from eggs, butter, coconut oil and coffee. Then again, that's plenty for breakfast! Grin

WillieWaggledagger · 12/02/2014 10:50

it has taken me a long time to get used to eating animal fats. i'm not very keen on chicken skin anyway, but have definitely come to enjoy the fat on pork, beef etc, provided it's cooked properly (melting in a stew or nicely rendered)

with this WOE my tastes have really changed and i'm much more adventurous that i was before. it did take a while for the adjustment to happen though

some things i used to hate but now love:

avocado
fatty cuts of meat like pork belly, breast of lamb, shin beef
the fat on bacon
fried eggs
butter (i was brought up on flora and so never got used to the flavour - love it now though)

seriouslion · 12/02/2014 11:23

Thanks for the encouragement yesterday, I am going to start recording measurements too. Some of my clothes feel better so there's that.

I know weighing every day isn't ideal but I did this morning, and I'm now back to last Mondays weight. Not a loss, but not the gain I thought. So that's good.

I've never had this much willpower on a 'diet' before so there's no way I'm giving up yet!

Also the effect on my hunger pangs and also digestion has been incredible. In particular there are foods that I thought gave me either wind or indigestion that do nothing of the sort. I've blamed them for years but it was either the carbs or the combination of the two!. Brussel sprouts, cabbage, aubergine etc... All is forgiven! Brussel sprouts fried in butter is my new favourite vegetable.

seriouslion · 12/02/2014 11:25

Oh, and its good to hear that you aren't all pounding away at the gym! I do want to start doing something active now I feel like I have the energy to do so, which wasn't the case in the first month!

prettybird · 12/02/2014 11:28

The other thing I have got (re)used to is full fat (blue top) milk.

I've stopped buying Gold/low fat spreads for ds to spread on his toast : in summer, I leave a small dish of butter out but in winter because our central heating isn't working well I've had to revert to "spreadable butter" which also has to be left out of the fridge in order to be spreadable

GatoradeMeBitch · 12/02/2014 11:32

HIIT is supposed to be a very good regime for people on this WOE, according to Dr Briffa. There are loads of free videos on YouTube showing routines.

CalamityKate · 12/02/2014 11:54

Seriouslion - me too!!

I used to be plagued by heartburn and indigestion and always blamed fatty/rich food. Well it's never been more fatty and rich! Nor have I ever eaten and enjoyed so much veg....and I haven't had any problems since the 6th jan. Must be carbs, as you say.

BIWI · 12/02/2014 12:02

Stunt - avocado mixed with Roquefort is a marriage made in heaven! On a bed of lettuce, with lemon squeezed over the top. and with a glass of Gewurtztraminer it's even nicer

I can't stop eating today. Hoping it's hormonal as it's day 2 of my period and it's all low carb but even so. I'm not hungry as such, just in NEED of stuff.

So far I've had three slices of belly pork, a BPC, two portions of swede crisps in olive oil, S&P and parmesan, a portion of crumble and clotted cream, a little over two litres of water and a fennel tea.

And it's only just gone midday Blush. The perils of a day working from home - so much easier in the office!

Am going to try and hold out til 3pm for another BPC then wait til DS is in bed for my spag bol.

ChesterDrawers · 12/02/2014 12:20

Oh God, now I want avocado, Roquefort and wine!

Grumble, grumble...

MrsHughJarse · 12/02/2014 12:38

Now craving avocado, and Roquefort...... its howling a gale..... might be worth it..... !

sayra. Athelstane twas me asking about helium - I haven't seen her on other ' active ' threads - but I am not a seasoned MNer , so not sure if there is a way to private message her to see if she is ok , or even if this is going against some unwritten MN rule....

eva thanks for the advice - I am only losing half a pound a week - so may try to cut down on cream too - I was using it to ' up' my fat., I can easily do without it.

crabby XDP....... don't get me started - I have full empathy.! Hope DD recovers soon from Iodine fuckwittery..

trashy you just make me smile Grin - I love your posts. thinking about you today in your 'office'. its gale force winds and heavy heavy rain in Somerset today --just what we need- I have just lost two roof tiles and a side gate.... but at least I am working inside !

Generally showing MN ignorance.... feeling I am now amongst friends to ask - what does ..iykwim mean ??

prettybird · 12/02/2014 12:45

If You Know What I Mean - obvious once it is pointed out iykwim WinkGrin

ElBombero · 12/02/2014 13:07

El just cut the butter up small and rub it into the almonds with your fingertips, as you would if you were making a flour based crumble. You want it to be the texture of breadcrumbs. Smile

MrsHughJarse · 12/02/2014 13:31

Thanks prettybird ... So obvious - silly me !!

woolfey - yes all very fed up with crazy weather . Just watching the news about the ' red' weather warning ..... Oh joy !

Picture for trashy !

Thanks Hugh. He's a good man really and he adores DD - would never knowingly let any harm come to her at all. He can just seem to lack common sense sometimes! Confused We've had our ups and downs and periods of animosity over the years but with a lot of compromise and effort on both sides, we have a very good relationship now and I really do consider him part of the family. I did want to give him a good shake when I heard about all this though. Hmm I feel impotent as she's so far away and I can't do anything to help her. Still, the main thing is that she's having a great time with a parent who loves her, in a wonderful country in the middle of summer.

Hmm

I feel so sorry for all the people affected by the flooding. It just seems neverending. Hugh and Woolfey I hope the waters don't reach you!

I got to go and have a cwtch of my neighbour's newborn twin girls today. Sooooooooo cute! I'm not much of a kid person tbh, but there's something so magical about newborn babies - sort of suspended between two worlds. I was a newborn hearing screener for a while and it was lovely getting to hold newborns every day and get paid for it (not much, sadly, or I'd still be doing that job!).

BIWI yes the choccy tart is definitely for special occasions. I don't think the crumble is too bad in moderation - the ground almonds are 6.5% carbs and the berries are 5.5% carbs. The key word there is moderation. So I'm not going to make another one for a while, since I am powerless in the face of it!

Nice weather for ducks :(

B - bacon and eggs (it's shopping day so nothing else in the house)
L - left over bolognese and left over celeriac dolphinpose :o and courgettiatelle (can I coin that phrase please?)
D - no idea yet...

CalamityKate · 12/02/2014 13:52

Oh see now you've reminded me there's a little bit of crumble left in the fridge.

I had pork belly strips for lunch on their own and BPC for breakfast. According to my calculations that's no carbs at all, right? So I can have a bit....
