Week 4 Low Carb Bootcamp - Keep on keeping on

BIWI · 03/02/2014 08:28

Morning.

I see that some of us are struggling.

I see that there is a lot of cheating.

Hmm. I wonder if there is a connection Grin

Seriously folks, this is not a terribly forgiving WOE. The idea of Bootcamp Light was to give you a bit more flexibility, but not to send you spiralling into a chocolate and alcohol-fuelled frenzy!

Come and confess all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness or on your own personal Weight Tracker

Remember that weight loss may stop in weeks 3 and 4 - sometimes 5. It takes this long for your body to become keto adapted, i.e. to switch fully from carb-burning to fat-burning.

And if you're continually pushing up your daily carb intake, all you are doing is delaying this process

Hope you all have a good week.

sybil thank you for the tip. I am doing a shepherd's pie tonight with celeriac topping, I shall lay in some Andrex... :o

PrimalLass · 07/02/2014 11:23

teaandthorazine · 07/02/2014 11:26

Morning losers!

Good day yesterday. Drank lots of water and ate lots of fat (including ridiculously expensive m&s pork scratchings). Managed to talk myself out of fruit bread at my 9pm kitchen-raiding 'danger point' - drank water whilst watching The Bridge instead. Went to bed feeling angelic, woke up 1.5lbs lighter! Grin

However...dp is coming home for a few days tonight which may scupper all this good behaviour a little. Will try to keep on keeping on; he is broadly supportive of low carb in principle but is also a sugar maniac so...we'll see.

Sorry, am at work so shouldn't be posting but will have a proper read later!

teaandthorazine · 07/02/2014 11:27

Oh, and am wearing a dress I've not been able to get into for over a year! Result!

MrsPnut · 07/02/2014 12:03

Morning - Just :o

I have been a carby twat this week - I have slipped headfirst into a bucket of wine in the last week. I have however still lost 1lb.

I may write off the rest of this week and begin anew on Monday, not stuff my face with carbs but not stress about it quite so much.
We're travelling to Glasgow tonight for the weekend and have a 5 hour train journey each way. I'm planning a salad with chicken and avocado for tonight's dinner and we are going to Pizza Express for dinner tomorrow but other than that I am a bit stuck. I have got pork scratchings for snacks along with pepperamis which might tide me over.

wakemeupnow · 07/02/2014 12:19

I had been doing so well and the last few days it's fallen apart a bit. Now I feel bloated and hungry and shit... need to re strengthen my resolve , I was feeling great before temptation got in my way ...

Thumbwitch · 07/02/2014 12:34

D was indeed sausages and veg with swede mash - I avoided the carrots but had beans instead which are almost as bad, if not worse! Swede mash was yum, but I love that anyway.

BUT! Then I went out to a Tupperware party (yes we still have those in Australia, anyone surprised? Wink) and avoided all the cocktails - but then someone mentioned black sambucca and I was a goner. Just had one teeny shot (had to drive home as well) but god it was goooood! I do love Sambucca. Blush

Since getting home I've had another bowl of double cream with a few blueberries and cut strawbs mixed in, and I had a lowcarb bar earlier, so that's me done.

I forgot to mention the other day, I think, that I had a weak coffee for a change (I dont' normally drink either tea or coffee) and a couple of hours later I had the WORST breath and mouth feel! Shocking. Just thought I'd share that...

MrsHughJarse · 07/02/2014 13:14

waves a big hello from Sunny Somerset - yes - I can see blue sky at this moment Grin

I am two days out of date and its taken my whole lunch break to catch up - with highlights of peeping fanjos and smelly wee Grin chester and precious- just did a sniff test ( all in the name of comaraderie and support) - mines not smelly and think am in ketosis.... so perhaps if have other symptoms - ie frequency and burning.... best pop to GP

calamity hang in there. Its not about the weight loss so much for me anymore ( although I do need to lose ++ ) its the fact that I have been miserable, hungry, on a diet and yet fat for many many years. I am evangelical about this new WOE - I am not hungry...... I am enjoying food for the first time in years..... the stress and panic of what I ' can ' eat and how many calories took over my life and now I don't have to think about it. My weight loss is superslow - 1lb last week and nothing so far this week - but I am not putting too much on and I feel great........ just maybe keeponkeeping on for a bit longer ?

eva how do I up my butter - I also think I need more fat but less diary..... I am having butter with every meal in veg etc..... is there a way to have butter in snacks ? ( apart from a mushroom with butter on Envyeeeuuuwww !

crabby the knowledge that I could make courgetti in advance is almost life changing....... you are the post work lifesaver... how do I make pesto - is there a crabby website somewhere I have missed out on ?
and I love "delicious and extortionate artisany products" - its a curse Grin

trashy ( maybe a bit overfamiliar Blush I love the analogy of the new language being learnt with new brain pathways. I am learning a new language and steering an elephant..... I am amazing ! Grin

hope psychopup didn't destroy the cat notsoskinny !

athlestane - homeless??. hope all ok there and think will try this no cheese lark if I remain stalled. Well done you on lbs off.

tea a dress - fabulous.... legs out for spring Wink

BIWI · 07/02/2014 13:31

Somehow I have managed to lose one of the plastic feet that means I can use my scales on carpet. So I had to junk the other three, and have to use the scales on the carpet.

However, doing this has given me a 3lb weight loss Grin

As I haven't weighed for a few days I don't really know if this is true or just my scales. (Thank the actual fuck that it didn't show a 3lb gain mind you!)

Oh no! Don't go, MPR!

It's been a very useful thing, actually, so that we can talk about the hows and whys of Bootcamp/low carbing.

And, more importantly, what you're doing is finding a way of making it work for you which is what we all have to aim for when we reach our target weight and want to maintain it.

Honestly. You are an important part of Bootcamp Flowers

AmayaBuzzbee · 07/02/2014 13:47

weesmell ; I wonder if this has something to do with hormones? Do I remember correctly that breaking fat cells release estrogen or something?

I am only suggesting this, as I had the same whiff in my wee in both of my pregnancies. That is in fact how I knew I was pregnant the second time round -way before I was due to test/miss period! I have recently had the same smell in my wee, and it scared the life out of me! I have since established I am definitely not pregnant (phew!), so it has to have something to do with this woe as nothing else has changed -so maybe hormonal?

CrabbyWinterBottom · 07/02/2014 13:53

Such a lot of talk of cheating! Shock Are you on bootcamp or not??

CrabbyWinterBottom · 07/02/2014 13:55

D'oh cross posted with you Precious. Blush Don't go, you silly! Come on back now.

HumphreyCobbler · 07/02/2014 14:03

I have noticed that my wee sometimes is rather whiffy (I cannot believe I just put that out on a public forum) despite drinking upwards of 3L a day. I think it is hormonal too, I had the same thing when pg just like you AmayaBuzzbee, I am breastfeeding atm.

I don't cheat with wine as I would fall face first into the biscuits if a little drunk! I am eating a square of 85% chocolate every day which is not very bootcamp but I am still doing this dairy free and SOMETHING has to give.

Baby Cobbler is four months now, as soon as he is six months I am going to try and introduce a bottle. I think I will be able to stick to it more rigorously once breastfeeding has reduced a bit and I am getting a bit more sleep.

Don't go Precious

PseudoBadger · 07/02/2014 14:04

Went to GBK for lunch with DS and my mum. It was lovely, I had burger (no bun) with avocado and bacon, their coleslaw (cabbage, celeriac, spring onion, carrot and vinaigrette) and salad. I'm happy :)

CrabbyWinterBottom · 07/02/2014 14:05

I don't think that planned cheats are the problem, tbh - I think it's much better to plan for an off-piste occasion and enjoy it, knowing that you can draw a line under it and step back on board. Planned cheats are part of this way of eating if it's going to be sustainable, ime.

It's the constant eating of things you (the plural you - no one in particular) know aren't allowed on bootcamp - the forbidden fruit here, the biscuit there, the sandwich because you didn't take your lunch or whatever: that's more of a problem. It's a constant drip drip of carbs and you aren't giving your body time to adjust properly to low carbing. It's also really self sabotaging because you're just feeding the carb cravings and making it much harder to stick to the rules. Why do it to yourself? Confused

Bootcamp is only ten weeks. Ten weeks of your life. All the rest of your life that you can eat that biscuit, that cake, that piece of chocolate, that pizza. Just ten weeks! Surely you can stick to the rules for a few weeks of your life??

CalamityKate · 07/02/2014 14:05

Right I'm going to start posting my food! I will do this!

B - 2 eggs. 2 rashers bacon. Handful of mushrooms. Brought to me in bed by lovely DH however he announced proudly that he'd cooked the lot in fry light because he knows I'm on a diet. Face palm. Honestly it's almost as if he doesn't listen when I start explaining about carbs/fat etc. I was tempted it just melt some butter to pour over it because it wasn't anywhere near as nice as when it's swimming in President!

L - salad. An avocado. Mayo. Sprinkle of Parmesan (cutting back on cheese). This time I did pour some melted butter over it. It's getting so that a meal doesn't seem complete without it ending with butter dripping down my chin.

D - will be pork belly again with probably broccoli and cauli. How many strips of belly pork are an acceptable number please? I've been having two but could easily do more.

Going to try to stick to one cup of tea per day. Quite happily managing at least 3l of water a day now, usually more.

NotTwit · 07/02/2014 14:09

Right then. Three days dairy free and strict bootcamp has done nothing. I am still the same weight.
I know I lost 4 lb overall, since the beginning, so I'm carrying on, but is it normal to hold what I still assume is water weight this long? Have I got lucky and combined water weight with a stall do you think?

Au lease to know dairy in moderation isn't causing me problems, so back to normal now I think, see if I can wait this out. Even though I am still pissed off and gutted and angry that I gained half a stone. Hmmph.

I think GBK is Gourmet Burger Kitchen, v nice it is too Grin

CrabbyWinterBottom · 07/02/2014 14:28

LMiss I do know what you mean about fish...I have to be in the mood for it, otherwise I just don't fancy it and really don't want to eat it. An exception to that might be smoked mackerel actually - I find that more appealing.

Ewan I totally balk (and boak!) at brains, offal etc, even though I am a great supporter of nose to tail eating and reducing wastage. DP makes up for my reticence though; he'll eat pretty much any bit of the animal!

Seri once you're used to this way of eating, I think just listen to your body - if you're properly hungry then eat until you're satisfied, if you're not hungry, don't.

Hugh glad you like that idea, always happy to change someone's life for the better. Grin I haven't got the pesto recipe on the blog but I really should. I'll post the recipe later if you like. I never ever buy pesto, really don't like the taste having got used to my homemade one. The courgetti/ribbons I think have a better texture once cooked if you've let them dry out a fair bit first. Courgettes are full of moisture so I lay them out (after making into noodles or ribbons or whatever) on kitchen towel covered plates and leave for a couple of hours. The drier they are the less soggy they are when you fry them, and the more texture they retain. They'll be losing a little bit of their vitamin C in the drying process I would think (any cut veg or fruit gradually starts to lose certain nutrients) but they're still nutritious and I bet a plate of partially dried courgette is a lot more nutritious than a plate of pasta. I've been thinking about how to dehydrate them even more so I can prepare them in bulk.

holmessweetholmes · 07/02/2014 14:29

B: ff yoghurt with cinnamon, vanilla and flaxseed
L: big salad with avocado and tuna mayo
D: will be chilli (avoiding the beans) with salad and maybe some celeriac remoulade

LittleMissDisorganized · 07/02/2014 14:32

MPR There is no need to go! You have done amazingly well. Other posters have been talking about "cheats" so please don't take it on yourself. Maybe you can see that the following juxtaposition was not all that helpful: I'm sharing a bottle of prosecco with my husband and have had a massive dinner of chicken curry, fried rice and chips... I've lost 13llbs so far especially after talking about pasta for lunch earlier in the week... but those of us that felt discouraged by it hold responsibility for our own reactions. I am happy losing a lb or so a week sticking to the rules, and if the green eyed monster rears its ugly head over someone that's lost almost a stone in less than 4 weeks and still eats chips and pasta, maybe I need to be looking at my own heart and motives.

Durham no in the NW - actually I think there may be a small one in Chester these days (or somewhere out into Cheshire, not sure) so the 100 miles was wrong, sorry. And not quite North enough for Booths - which is a wonderful Lancs/Cumbrian supermarket. I was on placement up there for a while and so on holidays in the Lakes love a good wander round. But I am a bit strange like that!!

I had a gorgeous chicken/ pesto mayo salad for lunch with dressing - mmmmm. I have tried on a few tops that have been snug that now almost fit. I feel like I am eating lots - more than in the first week or so - but only when hungry, and enjoying it.

It's our local farmer's market tomorrow so am looking forward to stocking up on veg and some really local meat, food miles are shorter, it's a real highlight of the month. And I might be able to walk there and back which I've not done in a long time. My legs are so much stronger.
