Week 4 Low Carb Bootcamp - Keep on keeping on

Morning.

I see that some of us are struggling.

I see that there is a lot of cheating.

Hmm. I wonder if there is a connection Grin

Seriously folks, this is not a terribly forgiving WOE. The idea of Bootcamp Light was to give you a bit more flexibility, but not to send you spiralling into a chocolate and alcohol-fuelled frenzy!

Come and confess all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness or on your own personal Weight Tracker

Remember that weight loss may stop in weeks 3 and 4 - sometimes 5. It takes this long for your body to become keto adapted, i.e. to switch fully from carb-burning to fat-burning.

And if you're continually pushing up your daily carb intake, all you are doing is delaying this process

Hope you all have a good week.

Here are some of the advantages I have had from low carbing that are not weight loss:

Better skin
Can concentrate in the afternoon
Don't feel exhausted in the evening
No period pain
Fewer headaches
Mildly annoyed at missing lunch rather than missing a meal being an impossible occurrence
No snoring
Eating roast pork belly guilt free
Less tempted by cakes etc. because I don't want to get knocked out of ketosis
No dodgy tummy
No bloating
Stable blood sugar so I don't get hungry and irritable
Discovering new foods such as celeriac and pork scratchings and roast broccoli
Knowing my children will be healthier because I'm cooking more vegetables

PseudoBadger · 07/02/2014 14:46

Sorry yes it's Gourmet Burger Kitchen :)

Piscivorus · 07/02/2014 14:53

I'm envious of people going to lovely places for lunch, in Blackpool there is McDonalds, fish and chip shops and cafes so nowhere nice for me to eat out. Oh well, it is what it is.

I agree with those of you who say planned cheats, within reason, are acceptable. I often allow myself a treat (something special but low carb like a nice steak or a beauty treatment, etc) or a cheat (whatever I fancy Smile) at the weekend if I have been good all week. This even helps me beat the drip, drip, drip bending of the rules as I keep telling myself that if I'm good I can have that treat/cheat. Some people even argue that it helps reset your leptin levels.

Doshusallie · 07/02/2014 15:41

FWIW - my wee often whiffs on this WOE, particularly when I have been really strictly bootcamping

ahhh last week was hard. I went to NY for work and totally fell off the wagon and indulged in all sorts of carb known to man. Thing is I did not even really enjoy it and felt sick at some point.

I am now ready to get back on and I am so scared of weighing myself again. I could kick myself really.

ChesterDrawers · 07/02/2014 16:19

Right enough wee talk, I will keep an eye on it and see.

Have had good day, but would have been so easy to cheat. Went to a beautiful cafe for lunch and had a prawn and avacado salad with a creamy dressing while my friends had quiche and chips. They also had the most lovely looking chocolate cake and I had a black decaff. Quite hungry now as font think the fat was as high as it could have been but pleased I managed to stick to the rules.

Now can I please weigh a bit less tomorrow?

LittleMiss there is a tiny Waitrose in Chester city centre but they are building a huge one on the way out of town. Not sure when it's due to open though, quite a while I think. There's also a fab Booths in Knutsford if that's anywhere near you? I love shopping there, so peaceful, but pricey.

HeirToTheIronThrone · 07/02/2014 16:52

Chester at the doctor's on Wednesday she told me I should be having 3l a day - and this was just a general health instruction - which suggests we need even more water than even the chart says! Although I am bad today as had a pitch this morning and didn't want to have to leave to go to the loo - trying to catch up now.

Eva loving the butter-mushroom snack, that's genius :) Sayra I might draw the line at butter on cheese though but it is nice on cucumber slices

No cheating for me either! Greek yogurt this morning, then big bowl of rocket, cucumber, cheese coleslaw and a little bit of tomato for lunch (still stuffed). Trying out the IPD moussaka for dinner as Aldi had lamb mince yesterday - if nothing else this WOE has convinced me of the genius of Aldi/Lidl, I did our 'full' shop there last night rather than just a LC top-up for me, and it was about £20 less than normal.

We are off on a weekend away that will involve meeting our new nephew, my first trip to a Premiership football match and a cheeky night at the Hotel du Vin, complete with dinner and breakfast - all challenges I think, but will be trying to stick with it!

Happy Friday all, a little tiny bit of Wine to those who are partaking. Gallons of water to the rest!

Notsoskinnyminny · 07/02/2014 17:15

Before I read through today's natterings I have an announcement

I am no longer a BPC Virgin and it was fuckin lovely

MrsHerculePoirot · 07/02/2014 17:27

MPR come back!!!! Pleeeeeeeeeease........

crabby, thanks! Interestingly, I started off not low carb at all, carbs beget carbs and I stuffed my face, recently though I have gone right off me, think the novelty has worn off and I cannot wait to get back to bootcamping proper. Dinners in particular I just want the meat and veg bit... I have just rediscovered avocados too....

LittleMissDisorganized · 07/02/2014 17:46

Chester seriously well done on lunchtime.
Your nn should have given away your location Blush - I'm in Merseyside, on the prettier side of the river! And less well informed about supermarkets clearly - but I do love a potter round a different/posh supermarket.

I've got the Winter Olympics opening ceremony on - wow - time to put the laptop away I think :)

Notsoskinnyminny · 07/02/2014 17:56

Humphrey aren't they delicious, I only added 2tsps of coconut oil and butter as I wasn't sure what it'd be like but might be brave and try more next time with some ground ginger then I can pretend its a gingerbread latte Grin

MrsHugh Kitty survived and probably had a lovely day on our bed, where DH found him when he got home, after refusing to come out from under it before I left for work. They get on ok and often sleep together but I've got a grumpy older cat who hates psychopup and everyone else and has returned home because our neighbours who put meaty stuff out have gone on holiday.

Crabby I'm also in the grammar police. DH refuses to let me proofread anything after I corrected rewrote his last boring magazine article.

LMD there's a Waitrose in Northwich

Heir I popped into Tesco for a few bits as there was no parking spaces at aldi and I was determined to get some coconut oil. I came out with 3 bags, nothing to make a meal and £40 lighter - robbin barstewards - no wonder the place was empty on a Friday afternoon.

Happy Friday everyone, I might have a little Wine tonight although I was paralytic after half a glass, drowned in soda, last weekend.

SayraT · 07/02/2014 18:31

I think I'll need to try BPC again, tried it once and hated the oiliness but everyone else seems to love it. I have one coffee with cream a day (during the week, probably 2/3 at the weekend). I really like it will cream now even though I didn't at first so maybe BPC will grow on me too.

CalamityKate · 07/02/2014 18:50

Can you make BPC with instant coffee? Do tesco sell coconut oil? Can I use a stick blender? If so do tesco sell stick blenders? And why don't they sell celeriac? I'm dying to try it!

Notsoskinnyminny · 07/02/2014 19:04

I got mine in tesco - £6 a jar - in the cooking oil aisle. Others have used instant coffee but I gave up caffeine 2 years ago and allow myself one fresh decaf a day. I blended it with my stick blender - couldn't find the beaker so put everything in a small pan and put a tea towel over the top to stop the splashes. It was lukewarm by the time I'd faffed around so I put it in the microwave for 30s to heat up.

Aldi and morrisons sell celeriac and I think I've seen it in asda - ugly looking thing and it smells like celery yuk but doesn't taste like it.

teaandthorazine · 07/02/2014 19:05

BPC is better once the butter goes in, imo.

B: cup of tea, protein shake, spoonful of coconut oil
L: crayfish and avocado salad, kale crisps
D: have got chicken roasting in oven, will have it with wilted spinach and green beans

There is a bottle of Pinot Noir staring at me from the kitchen worktop. I'm slightly worried that I might get immediately ver' ver' drunk if I have even the merest sniff, though. LCing does little for my alcohol tolerance levels!

PseudoBadger · 07/02/2014 19:05

Ok so how do you make a BPC? I don't have coconut oil.

Notsoskinnyminny · 07/02/2014 19:07

Woolfey come over to the dark side - they're all acquired tastes although celeriac does make me fart and I'm a lady who never farts Wink and they were smelly Blush

monkeyfacegrace · 07/02/2014 19:43

Evening team.

B: Cauli pizza, made with half a cauli, mozz ball, egg. Topping of half tin of tuna, passata and cheese.
L: Hot n spicy chicken thighs x 3 from Tesco deli counter
D: Sugar free jelly with double cream

4l fizzy water with lime.

I have a stinking cold, and feel crap. Bottle of warm rich Merlot is practically screaming at me, but Im staying strong. Feel like Ive done rubbish with food today.
Hope you all have a good weekend Smile

ImATotJeSuisUneTot · 07/02/2014 19:55

Hi all, just SMS.

B-Sausage Tortilla

L-Chicken Caesar Salad. I don't like regular lettuce, so my leaves are spinach, watercress, and rocket. Was yummy but couldnt finish it. :(

D- Leftover Salad, goats cheese stuffed mushrooms and asparagus.

My daily weighing shows i've gained a lb so far this week, I'm not sure if this is real 'week three' gain, or the constipation. I've take a laxative:(

rusmum · 07/02/2014 20:03
