Week 3 Low Carb Bootcamp - Where we stand at the crossroads ...

BIWI · 27/01/2014 07:31

Morning everyone.

So, we enter the fabled week 3.

This week you have a choice. You can either continue with Bootcamp or you can move on to Bootcamp Light:

Rules of Bootcamp Light

Or you can do a hybrid - Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend. Totally up to you and what you find is working for you the most.

Don't forget to enter your weight on the weight tracker - today you should see your graph appear! Or if you prefer, here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

And now - a word of warning!

It is very, very, very common for weight loss to slow down/stop altogether in weeks 3, 4 and/or 5. This seems to be entirely normal. It's probably to do with your body adjusting to low carbing. You will have junked the glycogen stores and a load of water, and will now be burning fat. From here on, weight loss will - and should be - around 1-2lbs a week

Good luck everyone!

Hope all goes well tomorrow, Crabby, I hope your DD appreciates the sacrifices you're making for her birthay! ;-)

daisy I've got Dana Carpender's 500 low-carb recipes which has many fabulous gems in it (and an awful lot of artificially sweetened cakes and crap too), I use it regularly. I do find her carb counts are a bit off, though (on the high side for the individual ingredients), and she uses onions rather than shallots, so I count a lot of her stuff as lower.

One book I swear by is the Atkins Quick n' Easy cookbook, which was written by Mrs Atkins herself and has the most gorgeous duck recipe I've ever made. Great for coming in after work and putting a meal together, nothing takes longer than 30 minutes.

I've also got the Rose Elliot Veggie Low Carb book and the India whatserface's Idiot Proof Diet Cookbook, which I picked up for 50p in a charity shop, but which has some nice recipes for later on/maintenance as well as starting off.

Piscivorus · 29/01/2014 00:21

I have this and love it. Has some nice recipes, some not quite bootcamp, but all very simple and has shopping lists, etc so you can plan a week.

CrabbyWinterBottom · 29/01/2014 06:31

Thanks Lovecat. I can't believe I'm awake so early, I am really not a morning person. Hmm

sybilfaulty · 29/01/2014 06:33

Cider, bad luck on the food but remember in doing this YOU HAVE SAVED SOMEONE'S LIFE! Giving blood, that is, not eating biscuits. Really important to eat before and after or you might pass out and not want to do it again! My dear FIL needed gallons of blood during his cancer treatment and without you and all the lovely donors, that would not have been possible. You are amazing. A few biscuits in that context is neither here nor there. Flowers for you.

Huge hugs for you today Crabby. She'll be back before you know it and then she will really see a change and a lot less of her lovely mum!

Right, work beckons. Have a good day, y'all.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 29/01/2014 07:02

Morning chums and hugs for Crabby

I bloody love Club biscuits, didn't know they still made them, until they introduced them where I give blood too. A right blast from the past. I second what syb says though Cider you not a twat.

Anyhoo

My name is Pistey and I am a Daily Weigher. The trend is my friend :)

blizy · 29/01/2014 07:13

Morning!
Crabby, big hugs for you today Thanks.

The whoosh fairy has visited me overnight, I'm 3lbs lighter than Monday but only 1/2lb lighter than last week. But hey, I'm happy with that. I CAN and WILL get my bmi down to 30 (hopefully a lot less) for IVF.

My meals for today
B-low carb sausage
L- total with a few berries
D-steak and salad
Snacks if needed- celery and philli/wee chunks of cheese.

FourArms · 29/01/2014 07:15

The trend is also my friend.

Who said last thread that any loss was fat and any gain merely water retention (not scientifically, but in their judgement of the daily reading)?

I'm going with that too. :)

Bad day yesterday..... Had lunch on a course. Didn't know it would be provided so ate two s.egg first. Then there was lunch and it was lovely salmon with lots of roasted root veg & peppers. I had lots of lettuce too, but I fear the damage was done. 1lb up.

:(

FourArms · 29/01/2014 07:20

Well done blizy

What's your BMI now? Mine's down from 36.7 in Sept to 29 now :) You'll do it :)

blizy · 29/01/2014 07:28

Wow FourArms that's fab! Mines is 32 just now.

Thanks for Crabby, will be thinking of you today and she will be back before you know it. We will all keep you company while she's away. Thanks

EwanHoozami · 29/01/2014 08:11

milg chin up my babber! And put down the ketostix. Seriously, I think they're a big red herring. I know when I'm in ketosis but when I've tried a sneaky pee on the stick for affirmation they've always remained neutral. Because as BIWI says, all the ketones are getting flushed out from the gallons of water. Come back and join in our buttery fun! (that sounds a bit wrong)

SteeleyeStan · 29/01/2014 08:45

Good luck for today Crabby! Thanks
blizy hooray for the whoosh fairy! You'll definitely get there! Thanks

I'm feeling okay, stomach's co-operating again and TOTM is over. Still not sleeping great, but I'm not overly tired during the day, so I guess it's not really a problem (especially as I have nice books to entertain me at night when I can't sleep).

Food plan today:

B: Same old fried eggs and coffee with coconut oil.
L: Smoked salmon and feta salad with olive oil.
S: Lidl's yoghurt with seeds/nuts if I get hungry (I'm boycotting Total now, for their sneaky fat cull! Angry )
D: Steak with creamy mushroom sauce and broccoli.

CrabbyWinterBottom · 29/01/2014 08:49

Bloody hell I don't know how those of you who were contemplating baking on earlier threads can do it... I licked the spatula and it took superhuman willpower not to lick the cake mixer blades like I did last night and leave them for the birthday girl. I can't promise though I can predict Hmm what's going to happen when I make the chocolate icing. I've already had the last lonely bit left over when I weighed out the dark chocolate!

Sponge is baked so at least that's done. DD has just gone off for her first solo hair appointment!

PseudoBadger · 29/01/2014 08:52

I baked ds's cake last night. I had a few licks I'm afraid, and I will have a slice today and a glass of Asti.

HumphreyCobbler · 29/01/2014 08:55

I threw the bowl in the sink and squirted washing up liquid into it. Was the only way. Flowers for Crabby

I have lost 2 inches from my thighs!!!!

ImATotJeSuisUneTot · 29/01/2014 09:09

I'm not happy with my water intake over the last few days - it's dropped significantly. Hope to rectify this today as am at home with two poorly DDs but at least I have free access to the tap and the loo Grin

Would like to lose another 2-3lbs this week but deep down know that's unlikely. 1lb is prob what I'll achieve- I don't have much left to go realistically.

Just wanted to say that I read every post and love finding out how everyone's doing and feeling , what's working for some but not for others.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 29/01/2014 09:29

Blimey, I can't keep up with all that! So here's a heap of multi-coloured congratulations and commiserations, and perhaps people can just pick up one of whichever they feel is more appropriate... [useless emoticon] Blush

I must stop weighing. I'm a few lbs up on Monday. I believe, I believe, I believe it is water. I do not believe it is butter and cream. [repeats to self endlessly]. Why so much DRAMA on the scales, eh? I like a quiet life, grumble grumble.

Now here's the exciting news (for me at any rate, see 'quiet life' above): I have no work trousers (that's not the exciting bit, btw). It's effing freezing up here in the North. But I found the most wonderful, beautiful, elegant, wool, office trousers in an online sale from the most expensive shop I could never buy full-price clothes from. The only hitch is that they were two sizes smaller than I've worn for the last 5 years. So they arrive, and they are beautiful. I would have kept them just to look at. BUT THEY FIT! Tight around the arse, I give you, and would fit better for losing another few lbs, BUT THEY FIT!

I have a pair of trousers I am delighted to put on and we look good together. I cannot remember the last time I have been able to say that about myself. (that's the exciting bit, btw).

ChesterDrawers · 29/01/2014 09:30

Flowers or you Crabby today.

I'm losing again, but still 1.5lbs up on Saturday's weight. Hoping to drop that today and be back to lowest by tomorrow. Also hoping this will deter me from being a carby twat when I go out on Friday Hmm

Today's plan:
B: eggs scrambed with butter, bacon and shrooms
L: prawn and avocado salad, olive oil
Mid aft: BPC
D: spicy pork kofte type kebabs another pissing in the wind type recipe from Chester , swede chips, tzatziki

Was supposed to go to 6am body pump class this morning but thanks to DS waking three times in the night I jibbed that off without a second thought when the alarm went off.

Piscivorus · 29/01/2014 10:28

I am still here coughing my guts up and feeling a bit sorry for myself as my chest hurts but I will survive and am consoling myself that I must be burning calories in coughing

Food yesterday was:
B - Fish omelette
L - Roast chicken portion, a spoonful of prawn cocktail
T - Aldi lamb shank (carb count was 5.5 per portion but there was a lot of gravy with it which I didn't eat so reckon it would be lower), cauli rice

Not very well balanced as I don't feel like full meals at the mo. Did eat some Green and Blacks salted chocolate too though (just to keep my strength up you understand Grin)

Have had bacon and eggs so far today so will see how my day goes

RoaringForties · 29/01/2014 10:50

Morning, can I ask a stupid question about the tracker graph? How do I get myself onto it?

Struggling a bit with fitting in copious water drinking and loo visiting in with meetings today.

Had a roast dinner carvery when out yesterday and it was lovely, swede, cauli cheese, beef, greens and I ignored the roast potato and yorkshire pudding and you know what it felt very good to be able to do that.

googoogoggles · 29/01/2014 10:53

I AM COLD AS WELL! KEEP WAKING UP IN NIGHT! GRUMPY BUGGER FROM SWITCHING TO LOW CARB COFFEE...
There, that's my shouting shit bit over for the morning
Had a glug of DH's gin last night – luverly. Apart from that, been on track though didn't eat any of my planned meals yesterday. Instead had omelette/mushrooms for lunch (to warm up, working at home) and roast chicken with mashed swede and sprouts followed by some strawbs and yoghurt (best if I don't have them in the fridge I think except at weekends – tasted so wonderfully sweet and lush!)
Can't remember who posted what, though Flowers for Mlig feeling daunted (keep on!) and Piscivorus coughing and Crabby saying goodbye to DD for a month. Sorry if I've missed anyone else needing virtual hug.
Well done for those losing – and Athelstone in those trousers. Fab feeling!
Am keeping on keeping on. Weight loss slow but I think I'm on the last stone I need to lose for my height/build (5ft 10/11 in), so probably to be expected.
And def going to get me one of those peeler things!

googoogoggles · 29/01/2014 10:56

Hi roaring – when you're logged in, click on the BIWI's link "enter your weight on the weight tracker" in her thread opener. Should take you straight there. Then click on edit to enter starting weight/weekly weights

googoogoggles · 29/01/2014 10:57

Right, going to write something work-related now, instead of distracting myself (which I am extremely good at)
