As you were.

ninah · 03/08/2010 23:00

well the exhibition was not someone I'd heard of or was enthused by
we concentrated on the permanent collection, mainly the Surrealist stuff - great Mona Hatoum room - even then i find the building excessively large somehow and as much a cafe/shop as a gallery
all a bit Mammon
call me fuddy duddy but i much prefer Tate Britain
they have some good Brazilian stuff going on at South Bank Centre with African music/dance due in Sep
lol at you taking the Harrods detour easily done isn't it?

ninah · 03/08/2010 23:03

Pompidou centre is also impressive scale wise but somehow that feels OK

Monty100 · 03/08/2010 23:11

It's a great place though. I like the space. There was some modern Irish History paintings in there the last time I went they were fab, can't remember who did them, a variation I think.

OP posts:
ninah · 03/08/2010 23:25

sounds good
they had some dance stuff going on downstairs, that I would like to see
generally I prefer smaller spaces I think
if I was more local I'd go a lot and break it down into manageable sections
some stunning work on show, intelligently curated, but it's been a few years since I did a major space and I feel quite overloaded!
also going as blatant tourist rather than Londoner/art student felt a bit strange
think i have to turn in now, can't take the pace lol nn

sincitylover · 03/08/2010 23:40

Sorry have been receiving quite few phone calls tonight.

I pass by all those things every day on the way to work but hardly ever get a chance to look inside and tbh don't feel like going there on my time off work. (Might bump into someone I knew from work).

But do enjoy seeing them and also sitting in Somerset House.

Glad you had a good day. The crowds get to me too.

On the food front the boys had chicken dippers (tsk), oven chips and beans and I had left over bolognese from Monday.

aseriouslyblondemoment · 04/08/2010 01:06

ninah you'd go back down there in a heartbeat lol if things were different!
what did the kids particularly enjoy?
no culinary delights from my household either tonight..cheese n beans jackets n salad!

aurorastargazer · 04/08/2010 12:27

place markign again

hope everyone ok?xx

lou33 · 04/08/2010 14:48

tonight i will be making a quiche with jackets and salad

dp says he doesnt like quiche (seeing him tonight),but he had seconds when i made it before, so he clearly likes mine lol

we just had a huge sudden downpour of heavy rain

thunder too

aseriouslyblondemoment · 04/08/2010 14:54

snap lou
i'm making quiche too
there's a huge difference between the home made variety and those rubbery anaemic jobbies that you find on endless buffet tables

ninah · 04/08/2010 14:57

it's been raining all day here too, just brightened up a bit now
asbm you are right as ever
kids particularly enjoyed stripping off to their jeans and going in the fountains outside festival hall lol
for dinner tonight we have turkey (jar) curry and rice

ninah · 04/08/2010 15:01

haven't made a Quiche since school cookery class, pastry scares me (flashbacks lol)
but totally agree in principle about the home made variety

lou33 · 04/08/2010 15:19

yeh home made and shop bought are not even comparable, i will remind dp of the fact he had seconds last time, over and over, if he says anything but complimentary things this evening!

as an aside, i have decided to try and investigate ways to get the money together to get ds2 this

it would open his world so much, he could come walking the dog in the woods for a start

its the wheelchair he tried at the science museum, i called them today and had a long chat on the phone to someone about it, who later turned out to be the designer/md of it!

anyway i am going to try whizz kids and the family fund and have told dp to think of things he can do to raise money for it too

Monty100 · 04/08/2010 15:55

Lou - I hope you get the money for the chair, it would be great for ds.

Well, for dinner tonight we are having Italian Meatballs and pasta. I nipped into the co-op last night for a few bits and there was this tray of 30 beef meatballs reduced from about £4 to 75p lol. I like it when that happens.

I heard on the radio the other day that you shouldn't mix onions and garlic when cooking . I always have. It was that Italian young guy, don't remember his name. Anyone else heard this?

My dc's don't eat quiche. Grrr.

OP posts:
lou33 · 04/08/2010 18:03

Ooh

lou33 · 04/08/2010 20:10

i dont know why it only posted ooh lol

i meant to say ooh that was a bargain

the quiche went down quickly and silently

dp said he has never been keen because when his mum used to make them they were too hard and rubbery, so now he likes them if i cook it, but to never ever tell her or he will be persona non grata for the rest of his natural life

cant say i have ever heard the garlic and onion thing, sounds odd, arent they from the same family?

i dont think cooking should be about such rigid rules anyway, surely experimentation is how all the best recipes are discovered?

how is everyone this evening anyhoo?

Remotew · 04/08/2010 20:18

Its either onion or garlic here, not sure why I'm no expert. I haven't made quiche for years but used to do a lovely one. Just cheese, bacon and onion. DD won't eat it.

I won't disgust you with what we had tonight. DD was only in 10 mins from work then off out again. She is busy working atm most days, is off to Blackpool pleasure beach tomorrow a treat from the bf, how sweet, and has been asked to go with a mixed group in a caravan again in a couple of weeks. The jury is still out on that one as they are mainly whispers 'the cool crowd'. lol

FWB turned up tonight to collect something he left, gawd he was like a dog on heat, had to push him off. He then told me he had had a lot of opportunites (nature of his work) but didn't! WTF is that all about. He's gone out for a short time, see if he comes back with the requested bottle of something. Not that I'm bought that easily. He's not my bf so told him he cannot just turn up and expect me to drop em everything.

Back to work today, wasn't too bad.

lou33 · 04/08/2010 20:32

i use onion and garlic in loads of stuff all the time

quiche tonight was bacon onion and cheese, with tomato on top

it is one of the few things they all will wolf down, not that i take much notice, i make it, it goes on the plate, they have to have some of it, regardless

dd sounds like she is having fun eve, good for her

fwb sounds like he wants you to get jealous

tell him it will take more than one bottle if he wants you to pretend to be that

Remotew · 04/08/2010 20:42

Forgot the cooked tomato on top. Yummm! Think I will make this at the weekend. It's only shortcrust pastry isn't it?

Not sure what FWB was trying to do. Said he turned a couple of people down almost like I was honoured. I like him as a FWB, on my terms, but learnt long ago to switch off.

Yes I'm pleased DD is getting out more, especially now she is earning a bit and not asking me for money.

Hope things are on the up with you DD wise.

lou33 · 04/08/2010 20:55

yeh shortcrust, i dont bother making it tho i buy it and roll it out, blind bake it for about 20 mins before adding the filling, then cook for about half an hour

is fwb usually a bit cocky in that way, as in he likes to drop hints about giving time to you over others?

that would give me the arse, like you if it is only as you describe, i would be asking him if he expected me to be grateful cos if so he was confusing me with someone else

i know you are more than able to handle yourself though

i have been investigating a couple of places to try and raise funds to get this super duper off road wheelchair for ds2

the md/designer of it mentioned that one of the dealers he supplies to has an arrangement with a kids charity, one i was going to contact, and said it would be worth me calling them to discuss it, and another charity for parents of disabled children on low incomes, which i have used before but not for years, is sending me an application form as well, to put my case

hopefully i will get at least some funding towards it, and will have to wrack my brains to find any deficit

i have told dp to think of ideas too, like him jumping out of a plane lol

the charity sending me the form also allows you to apply for 3 (i think) things at a time, once every 12 months, so i am going to decide what else he could do with that would help him and see what they say

the worst they can do is say no, but no harm in asking is there?

the last time i applied was 2004 for a sn car seat which was 150 quid so it isnt like i abuse it

Remotew · 04/08/2010 21:07

Go down every avenue you can Lou, hope you get a good contribution then get dp to throw himself out of the plane .

Reckon FWB just really wanted a shag, oops excuse language but cannot think of any other expression.

Monty100 · 04/08/2010 21:27

Eve - rofl. Hmm why's he telling you all this?? I'd make him wait longer as punishment . Hope he brings you back a nice bottle of something anyway. Your hols went fast .

DD's certainly turned herself round. Great stuff.

Lou - fingers crossed for your application. OMG would dp really jump out of a plane??

Meatballs were nice, I did garlic in olive oil, then the meat, then a jar of pasta sauce . Anyhoo the pasta sauce had garlic and onion in it. I've always used both.

OP posts:
lou33 · 04/08/2010 21:39

when i said to dp maybe he could jump out of a plane , jokingly, he said ok immediately, so i guess he would

eve, i think depending on my mood when fwb said that i wouldve been inclined to snort and tell him he wasnt that good in bed to have them queuing up, heh

Remotew · 04/08/2010 22:27

No bottle of anything . Excuse was I didn't need it as I'm working tomorrow. Got a point. Just wanted a cuddle this time then poof gone off wherever the wind blows him.

Salesman has been in touch quite a bit recently, not sure why as he never suggests meeting up.

Forgot to say I met someone at the festival, he looked quite nice but I wasn't bowled over with his chat so excused myself and he ran after me asking for my no. he caught it as I reeled it off and has text a couple of times but that's a no go either. All these hangers on, don't think I'll ever actually meet anyone on a proper footing, not that I'm looking or too bothered atm.

What's happened to everyone recently. No-one seems to be dating and the others that are coupled up are silent.

ninah · 04/08/2010 22:34

eve your posts did make me smile esp I won't disgust you lol
and fwb, oh my goodness - is he back yet? no 'echo falls' business either
monty your co-op bargain - I do that all the time lol! as for the onion and garlic thing -bosh and from same school of thought as you shouldn't put milk in your tea first
indian cooking has both, surely?
I'm with lou, hate rules for the sake of rules
lou good luck with the chair keep us posted

ninah · 04/08/2010 22:37

ah x-posted
the actual 'dating' seems thin on the ground you're right
wish i could help out ...
