ninah · 27/07/2010 22:38

oh go on then
It was either Dear Prudence by Siouxsie or Victims by Culture Club

Monty100 · 27/07/2010 22:44

OMG - CULTURE CLUB! They were one of the first tapes I ever bought.

Elton John's Daniel was my first single, I was a baby obv

Rolling Stones' Some Girls album, which I have on cd now and still listen to with gusto

Ninah - did you say your thank you teacher voucher was enough to buy a new mattress??

First cd probably a Van Morrison

Monty100 · 27/07/2010 22:45

I've remembered what the other cd was that I took into the car, Christy Moore, lol. For variation purposes you understand .

ohh the music dp likes and is brainwashing making ds1 listen to full blast windows down{shudders}
(think air guitars and big hair...)
but i guess on the red flag scale it's prob a -1 lol
ds1 thinks my taste is dreary and incomprehensible and as dd said 'why are they singing leona's song?'
i was WTF????
monty my first single{70's child emoticon}was the teddies bear picnic lol
but my first album(regaining some street cred factor)was blondie's 'parallel lines'

aseriouslyblondemoment · 27/07/2010 22:56

sure it wasn't daniel o'donnell monty???!!

Monty100 · 27/07/2010 23:02

ASBM - Teddy Bear's picnic lolol. Blondie was an icon in her day deffo.

With music dp did the same to dd and ds . I was fine with it. Dc's have quite a wide taste in music and ds can play a bit of guitar which is all down to dp. They actually like some of the stuff I like too.

DP thinks my taste in music is dreary and dc's pull my leg quite a bit lol.

is this 80's night?

i met marc almond once in a recording studio, he made my skin crawl tbh

i also met rory gallagher if anyone remembers him, lovely lovely man, we had a nice chat in the pub, he drank a lot tho

he is dead now

bumped into sinead o'connor at a gig, tiny and beautiful then

saw gary oldman in a kids playground i used for dd1 years ago, looked like a fish out of water all ponced up in a sandpit

passed bryan ferry in the same park too, very elegant

one of the members from generation x was at my wedding, though noone would know him, and i had a chat with glen matlock who was an original sex pistol too, again in the same park, he was with a mate of mine

my exh also used to be mates with jah wobble who was in P.I.L and then went on to do his won stuff, v down to earth, bit of a party animal as well

and we used to know a producer called youth and go for drinks with him, who did some big tunes in the 90's

not all 80's i know but i thought i would add my bit

lou33 · 27/07/2010 23:05

knew adamski as well, almost forgot him

aseriouslyblondemoment · 27/07/2010 23:09

rofl dp winces when he drives my car and finds dd's westlife and girls aloud cds!!
i really don't mind tbh but cannot stand ds1's love of michael jackson
that's fantastic that ds can play some guitar i do so wish that i could
the only instruments that mine have been offered school lessons for are
the violin
the recorder
wondering why i've refused lol

Monty100 · 27/07/2010 23:16

Lou - wow, good connections there. But, what are your confessions of first purchases? eh? eh? lol

A couple of my friends married an Undertone each lol.
Rory Gallagher was from my home town, I never met him I don't think. The music scene there was A1

ASBM - dp got ds started and ds is self taught. DP bought him an acoustic guitar first and now he has a little electric one. I did offer to pay for lessons but he refused.

I don't get Michael Jackson at all, there's a couple of his tunes that I might tap my toe to, but in general, erm, no.

aseriouslyblondemoment · 27/07/2010 23:17

lol lou
have you ever told your kids all this?!
bryan ferry was lush when he was young, why did jerry hall bin him for mick jagger?
and is it true that sinead o'connor is now in a convent or is that just another urban myth?

Monty100 · 27/07/2010 23:18

Oh I forgot to say....

Bryan Ferry

jamestkirk · 27/07/2010 23:23

just glanced at this - first single ever bought was ian dury and the blockheads - hit me with your rhythm stick

aseriouslyblondemoment · 27/07/2010 23:23

yeah best spill lou
my db was a huge undertones fan and 'teenage kicks' would have to be on my childhood soundtrack for def
can't stand any of feargal sharkey's so-called solo stuff tho
pmsl at 'might tap my toe to' mont
believe me my toes curl up with embarrassment and i'm the adult here

aseriouslyblondemoment · 27/07/2010 23:24

did you swoon at him on JR the other night tho?!

Monty100 · 27/07/2010 23:31

ASBM - a bit, a bit, for his age, he's done ok. I went off him when I realised how right winged he is .

Teenage Kicks was just fab. We used to go see them play in the pub on a Friday night just before they went to London. Awww. That pub used to have some great live music. The Undertones wrote a song about it. I wasn't even old enough to be in a pub .

JTK - Ian Dury was one of the first proper gigs I ever went to lol.

OP posts:
Monty100 · 27/07/2010 23:35

ASMB - ha ha I just saw your Daniel O'Donnell quip.
ROFL

Who exactly is he?? I wouldn't know him if I passed him on the street, or heard any of his songs.

pmsl

jamestkirk · 27/07/2010 23:37

oh happy days eh?
anyhow all must sign off
nn x

Monty100 · 27/07/2010 23:39

JTK - It would have been early '80's I think.

The Smiths, great if you're in the mood.

OP posts:
Monty100 · 27/07/2010 23:40

ASBM - me too. nn all.

lou33 · 28/07/2010 12:13

You know i reallt cant remember my first record bought. Probably because i was dosed up on barbituates til i was about seven. I do recall dancing at home to cozy powell dance with the devil tho, and singing along to seasons in the sun by Terry Jacks

I havent name dropped to my kids because they would have no idea who i was talking about.

The closest celeb connection i have is my bil, but obv i wouldn't blab that

Remotew · 28/07/2010 15:27

I met someone who said they had been married to an Undertone!

I'm so old I was into Donny Osmond in the 70's. Janos, Cure are cool.

Didn't have a great shopping trip, only bought a top. Ended up getting DD a pac a mac in case in pours down at the weekend. £28 from Top Shop.

hatesponge · 28/07/2010 17:35

I have no celeb claims to fame..well none of a musical variety anyway.

My first single was Abracadabra by the Steve Miller Band and first album was the Fame soundtrack

I still have loads of compilation tapes in the loft that I made when at uni. I remember making them for bfs, or worse still 'intended' bfs at around that age .

My DC both find vinyl/ tapes a bit bizarre. DS1 seems to spend most of his time bluetoothing songs from his phone to friends and vice versa. makes me feel v old!

Janos · 28/07/2010 21:41

@ lou - you are so cool you don't need a fridge freezer! How come you know all these people?

My jaw dropped at your xh. Bet you can't WAIT to move into his skanky hovel batchelor pad so that you can --drown in vats of muck recover. As for the gearbox comment .

Eve - shame about your trip. I have memories of setting out for a good spend theb coming back with a tea towel or summat similar.

Blimey @ your sis Monty, mine wouldn't go quite that far. Sounds lovely though, imagine coming back to that! Something a bit disheartening about returning home to a messy house when you've been away.
