I've kinda met someone I like, he's single - I'm single (nearly 2yrs) we both have kids, we both like each other, he's asked me out, I've kinda not really responded, and now we're in limbo, I want to ask for his number but am slightly scared/nervous/unsure of how to ask, where to begin?

He's currently working two streets away and I pass him most days, stop for a chat etc, I just don't know how to further things ...?

just ordered a new battery for this laptop....it only works when plugged in electricity. Battery life 1 minute.

jamestkirk · 14/01/2010 22:24

at least you can take the moral highground as you'd never play such a trick on him...would you ?

alypaly · 14/01/2010 23:31

I reckon i am a bit of a sucker,or is it just soft.Maybe i wont do his washing when he comes home next(even bigger MUG) Ah kids what would we do without them...love them to bits tho.

DS2 did a resit in biology today. He got a B in his GCSE's and he was really unhappy with it. He got 4 A stars ,4 A's and a B which has really annoyed him. Fingers crossd ,he said the exam was easier than the one in summer and he has worked very hard swatting.(bless)

Got his first driving lesson tomorrow so keep off the roads!!!!!!!!

alypaly · 16/01/2010 18:23

some tiling done...put over 100 tils on yesterday....100's more to go,then the coving. Dont know how im going to hold the long pieces up whilst i fix them to the wall. Will probably have to wait for DS2 to come home from school. The plaster coving is really heavy

jamestkirk · 16/01/2010 22:34

wow!! youre a faster tiler than i! tho i am a bit slow - and even slower at grouting - well its so dull...dare i say i'd rather iron...best not

oh - and good evening - got rather involved with my lovely new phone last night - needed one for a while and dropped the old one in the snow which didnt help. new one is so smart, havent took the sticky plastic covers off yet, want it to stay 'new' - and am back with orange again, is like coming home after your hols

feel free to think 'numptey' where appropriate...oh but it has satnav and an 8mb camera!! dd most put out that ive gone one better than the one i got her for her birthday - thought i was getting the same - but its so last year go on, have a guess whether i'll be swapping it when her battery dies

oh - hope ds got on well with driving lessons - is best done before uni while theres time to spare.

as for plaster coving - should be in metre lenghts, just put plenty of plaster (not too runny) down the back edge of it and push it into the corner, is no harder than tiling - just bigger. a mitre block is handy for the corners, and a blunt crosscut saw. is great fun - youll have plaster everywhere

alypaly · 16/01/2010 23:01

these are in 3 metre lengths and they are so heavy. I put them up in my louge ages ago . I got the long ones because i didnt want to see too many joins as they inevitably crack apart, given time. I tried putting a shorter piece up the other day, but i couldnt hold it long enough to hammer the panel pins in the wall to support it til the adhesive stuck it to the wall.I was told by the builders merchant that it wouldnt hold wthout the nails and he was right. It crashed down and broke in half.

alypaly · 16/01/2010 23:03

Its too wide for a mitre block so i have had to buy a special mitre thingy to do the internal and external corners.

jamestkirk · 16/01/2010 23:13

eek - doesnt sound too good! now you know why most people use polystyrene, will take three of you to put up 3m lumps! you could always invest in a nail gun - they are so much fun tho may well put nails right thru the ceiling!

alypaly · 16/01/2010 23:23

I hate polystyrene. Put those up in my hall when i moved in years ago ( when i knew no better) Mind you there are that many layers of paint on them now ,you cant tell that they are polystyrene. Coated them with undercoat and then emulsion and it filled the holey bits in

He loved his driving lesson and is still grinning. he did really well. The instructor took him on the by pass at 50mph on his first lesson. He must be insane or on diazepam.

jamestkirk · 16/01/2010 23:31

wow - well done to him bet he can't wait for the next one - you letting him drive your car? really helps them with practice, road sense etc. when dd1 started to learn i had to sell my old vw camper and get a corsa - it survived all three of them - poor old thing!

alypaly · 16/01/2010 23:53

think my car is a bit too powerful and the insurance would be extortionate. Its a 2 litre.Too big and too pwerful to learn in. Maybe when he has passed. I allowed DS1to drive it when he had passed til i bought him a corsa 3 years ago

alypaly · 17/01/2010 00:19

excuse me a mo..just got to take a cake out of the oven...yes im a looney cooking at midight...but have got to provide some food for the badminton match that im in tomorrow.

alypaly · 17/01/2010 00:23

Playing for my county tomorrow [grin[grag, bragand we have to provide a spread for the visitors and everyone brings something homemade. Its quite nice actually...its a yummy spread. Unforunately it undoes ll the good work of playing badminton fo 4 hours
Off to bed now otherwise i will not be at my best tomorrow!

alypaly · 17/01/2010 00:36

grin grag brag must read my posts before i post them. not normally so bad at writing or spelling!I always forget to re read them..sorry

jamestkirk · 17/01/2010 19:50

sorry but i was fast asleep before your cake was out of the oven - hope it was appreciated! and four hours of badminton? sounds like torture to me hope you were on the ball (excuse my mixed metaphor tho not as bad as your grin grag brag )
my day was spent in spectator land watching a local rally - a cold day out but well worth it to see some great driving on a rather slippery track
and i have yet to get out for a car let alone get the thing ready - is going to be a busy spring.
anyway - did you win? and did your cake go down well?

alypaly · 17/01/2010 23:54

ended up keeping the cake for us and making sausage rolls and vol-au-vents this morning, instead

No ,we lost(boo hoo) to Durham unfortunately but there were 3 reserves in the team and Durham are near the top of the league. I was pleased with how i played for my first match for this team, and they have asked me to play til the end of the season in May. I feel honoured to play for my county.

Feel as fit as a flea tonight but undid the good work in the pub, tonight. It was my ex's birthday and he likes to see DS2 for special days,so we popped out to a country pub.

alypaly · 19/01/2010 18:30

50 more tiles done....millions to go

jamestkirk · 19/01/2010 21:18

am well impressed - you can manage a when theres still more tiling to do! would be more of a grr!! smiley if it were me

  • is one of my less favourite tasks.

did a mental reccy of all the jobs i want doing here - will take months! and thats if i had the time to spare. am slowly digging out a strip of front garden ready to take up the drive a lay a lovely new one. am a bit behind thanks to the snow. then have a fair old list to get thru indoors - is never ending. at least i can never say i'm bored and have nothing to do

oh - what are tiles like? i put new kitchen in a bit ago - went for a very blokey beech, black tops, white tiles and stainless everything...then decided i could move it all and turn the kitchen into an extension of the garage commonsense has prevailed...so far...

alypaly · 19/01/2010 21:42

i must be a bloke....mine is mapley/beech,black tops and brushed stainless steel and my tiles are the italian creamy travertine with an ivory grout. Was going to do black tiles but my kitchen isnt big enough and it would have made it look smaller than it already is.

meltedchocolate · 19/01/2010 22:02

Oi! ALY! Whaaaaddya mean tee totelers are boring?!?!... I will have you know I am a hoot!!

alypaly · 19/01/2010 22:28

sorry rephrase...some tea totallers.... my friend doesnt drink and he would never think of going out if i didnt suggest it. The boring bit was the fact that the OP male friend didnt want to take claire out for a meal...he wanted her to cook on the first date. deerrrr .. Thats not the way to woo a woman unless her surname is Ramsay

Its ok melted...i hardly drink myself...(probably about 2-3 units a week, if that and i hopw im not boring

meltedchocolate · 19/01/2010 22:50

To be fair to him - you feel like such a twonk when you are the only one not drinking! haha

But i forgive you (why is there no sticking tongue out smiley on here??) :P

alypaly · 19/01/2010 23:28

i just order the alcohol free lager and it looks like a real one

Dont like the feeling of being out of control and the hangover is not something i would want again

jamestkirk · 20/01/2010 00:07

ewww!!

alcohol free lager

there was i thinking you were perfect...well there was that badminton fad aswell - sure it'll pass

only joking of course - well done being chosen to play for the county - am secretely impressed

alypaly · 20/01/2010 10:29

Oi.....i am perfect.....ho ho ho
Fad ....ive been playing for...hmm at least 30 years, since my college days, bloody long fad . Had a break when i had the children and have played continuously since!!!!!!!!i love it and skiing too.(flicking through hols for skiing at the mo.

Love a good glass or two of wine with a quality meal...thats a must

Dont go out too much, other than badminton,so i suppose i dont drink alot in case home drinking becomes set in IYGWIM. Like a baileys or campari at night tho, good night cap.

Was really poorly 3 years ago after i had been skiing for a BIG birthday with my best friend. The docs said it was because i had had a binge for 2 days to celebrate. I had pancreatitis and the pain was just the worst thing i had ever experienced. 10 times worse than childbirth.
As it happpened,it was gall stones ,that some wonderful doctor misdiagnosed until this year when i collapsed.
But the initial incident stopped me from drinking completely as i thought it was self induced.[guilt emotion] Slowly drinking a bit more but i feel giddy faster now
