Tonight I called my boyfriend my ex H's name!!

I don't know how it happened, but is something I have feared happening for a while as I obviously have a lot of contact with ex H. I saw ex H when he returned the boys at 6.30pm this evening, and then my boyfriend came round at 8pm. Half way through the night I said "Do you want another drink x?" (ex H's name) Immediately realised what I had said, but it was too late! He said "Did you just call me X?"
I explained my way out of it by telling him that I have a lot of contact with ex H & feared I would one day do this, but it didn't mean I was thinking of him, and he seemed ok, but I feel really bad & a little shocked with myself. I hope he isn't too offended.

Yes, I think I would have been a bit put out if it had been the other way round, so he was very understanding considering!

It wasn't like I was thinking of ex H or anything, so not sure why it happened. Guess it is because I had spoken to ex H a few hours before & I just got my names muddled - a bit like when you were young & you called your teacher mum! Will try not to do it again!

PC, Oh no....I'm glad he was OK with it though.

If it makes you feel any better I used to forget DH names when we were first together.
I'd have to wrack my brains for a few moments before talking more that once. Then I'd think his name was something completely differnet to what it acyually was...

Now that is bad.

My dp called me his ex's name in bed once when we first got together, I was not amused but we're still together nearly 7yrs later and he's never done it since

Now that would be worse! Calling out the ex's name in a moment of passion! There wasn't that much passion in my relationship with ex H, so I hope I'm safe not to do it in bed!!

DH used to call me by his exgf's name in the early days, it used to really bother me.

I started charging him every time he did it, he soon stopped.

See I say I will try not to do it again, but these things are something that just happen are they not?! I obviously can't cope with two mens names in the same day! Best I never have an affair - I would give myself away immediately!!

How do I make sure I never do it again though?!

I rarely use anyones names when I am speaking to them. I always says things such as "do you want a drink, lovely/dear etc etc"

However when me and my dp first started living together he did wake me up to see to the kids by saying his ex wifes name. I think he was more upset by it than I was cos he felt it was disrespectful to me. The way I see it is they were together for 10years, you don't just suddenly get out of the habit of using one name all the time. There is also no way to stop thinking about they when kids are involved, you can move on but there is always going to be contact. If its just a slip of the tongue then I think its over reacting to see it as anything but.

NDTH's Ex-H obv just wanted a slap.

It's easily done, my dp has called my his by his ex wife's name 3 times so far! I've called him my ds's name a couple of times.

He's never done it to me, but he doesn't speak to his ex wife as much as they don't have children. I obviously communicate with ex H a lot, so it is easy to get myself in a muddle! I did it once before, but luckily he didn't hear me - this time there was no bluffing my way out of it!
