Don’t have anyone to sign passport

I really want to take my children abroad but don’t have anyone to do their passports. Has anyone been in this situation and what did you do? (Don’t need any suggestions of who can sign it I’m aware and have looked through the list but don’t have anyone that can do it) is there anything else that can be done if you’ve been in this situation?

Well who signed yours?
I've signed for colleagues kids on the basis that I've known their parents for 2 years?

I am not in contact with the person who signed mine anymore

We had an issue with DD's passport and I went to a solicitors to swear a Statutory Declation. Its costs a fiver (legal charge, if anyone wants to charge you more than that they are breaking the law).

You may be able to do that.

MaMisled · 23/03/2025 17:47

Get a grip people!!! The OP might be in Witness Protection or hiding in a strange place from DV, starting over. She may have terrible anxiety and not feel able to approach anyone. Some of you need to go out and get some fresh air.

offmynut · 23/03/2025 17:47

Solicitor done mine for a tenner.

Thank you! People won’t understand that there are some situations where people genuinely don’t have anyone to do it. I won’t be going into details why as that’s personal and not giving out my life story but I was simply asking if there was anything in place for this situation.

I don't understand British passport system.
for example in Poland you can go to passport office, fill the passport application, do your pictures, give relevant documents and then passport officer sign the application. and then you wait up to a month and you can collect your passport.

You must have neighbours

I know my neighbours but not well enough to vouch for their identity. Steve over the road could be anyone really.

Itsyourwifeymacrid · 23/03/2025 17:49

@MaMisled if that's the case why can't there case worker do it?again another easy solution.

There’s plenty of mumsnet threads that suggest otherwise

The difference is they actually want to do something about it.

Legodaisy · 23/03/2025 17:50

Your kids don’t go to the dentist, get hair cuts or do any clubs at all?

What an annoying thread.

Well we found someone.

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 23/03/2025 17:51

God OP this is a nightmare. I've googled the hell out of it and can see no solution. I think all you can do is phone the advice line and explain your personal circumstances which obviously contribute to the issue. I do hope you get something sorted.

There's no hate, OP; people are just frustrated because you seem to knock back any attempt to help and don't answer questions about who your kids or you might know.

Anyone in Witness Protection will have highly qualified professionals overseeing this exact sort of thing. It’s their literal job to provide new passports and documentation. They won’t be left to post on Mumsnet.

Exactly. Frustration as to why you won't respond to plenty of sensible questions and situations isn't hate

@BlueBurys
Do you work?
Are your kids at primary school? A parent who recognises you as “Timmy’s mum” is fine.
If they are at secondary school, get them to ask their friends’ parents.
Do your DC do any activities?
Do you use any businesses regularly eg hairdresser or small shop? A small business owner is usually fine or a manager.
Do you have any friends or neighbours who have known you for 2 years?
Friends of family eg your parents?

Was here to recommend a solicitor too! You’ll need a few other forms of ID, I think driving licence and a utility bill or something like that, and there was a fee but it wasn’t much.

If OP is in witness protection, there will have been a huge amount of work and admin which went into that and they will be able to counter sign her children’s passports. Personally think she’s just being deliberately obtuse but there you are

I asked OP if she had a passport and who signed it as I was going to suggest she asked them if they’re still alive! But she didn’t answer that
