Newborn and struggling

I'm a lone parent to a beautiful baby boy who is nearly 6 weeks old and starting to struggle. He sleeps pretty well on a night but through the day he just wants to be held all the time. I feel like I shouldn't complain as he sleeps well on a night but I just can't get anything done, even the basics of looking after myself such as showering and eating. I understand he is a newborn and they just need their mummy to feel safe which makes me feel so guilty but I need to do the basics to look after myself to keep my mental health in check.

I don't know what I really want from this post, maybe some advice from mums or even dads who have/had a newborn as a lone parent.
How are we meant to manage?

Some days by the end of the day I'm in tears, I keep telling myself it will get easier but I don't know if it will

Sorry I have been super busy with school holidays etc

I just wanted to say thank you so much for your kind words and support. It really does go a long way so I appreciate you all!

Thank you for the tips and advice too! Last week was hard having my eldest off too but we enjoyed the school holidays and managed to fit some fun things in too!

My LO actually had a tongue tie which was causing lots of issues, not just with feeding and since having this divided he is much more settled so I am getting some time to do the things I mentioned previously. Of course I am still finding my feet as a mum of 2 but I do feel like I'm managing better than before.
I think I had too high expectations that I could get everything done everyday, when in reality it never works out that way with a newborn.

Thank you again for your support ❤️

I just put the baby down in their cot and let them cry while I showered. I prepared and ate meals with them in the sling.

@anony1111 I did this too. I also went out for walks to get him used to sleeping in the pram, then I would leave him in the pram i the house when we got back, if he was still asleep. I was alone from day one. I promise you’ll be ok. Please DM if you’d like.

@Cerpeek thank you! It's so hard doing it all alone isn't it?
