does anyone use them? are they any good/do you have anything other than a laugh on them?

I only ask as a friend suggested it but from my experience (aunty does the online dating thingy) she's met a few deadbeats/weirdos. so is it possible to find a nice man on them or should I stick to my good book and glass of wine!

plenty of fish is probably the best as its free so its quite busy, as long as you take your time, exchange a few emails, chat on msn etc before meeting up you should be able to weed out the ones who are just after sex etc

been at it a few months and am currently chatting to 6 blokes (god that makes me sound like a tart..but you have to keep your options open eh? ) just about to meet one of them this week hopefully.

I have never used a dating site myself, but I know lou has lots of success on POF!

moonmother · 13/11/2007 21:24

I have a very meaningful relationship of 2 years with my dp,whom I met on plentyoffish.
As like many dating sites ,there are the oddballs on there, but there are some decent nice men on there.
I think you do have to be picky as to who you chat to...and keep chatting for a while before meeting them.
My dp and I chatted on msn for a few months before we met up and been together ever since. We moved in with each other earlier this year and can honestly say we've never been happier.

Hope it's encouraged you,and all the wierdo's do add abit of entertainment value ,whilst your hunting 'perfect' man down

Drusilla · 13/11/2007 21:25

My best friend has just married a lovely man that she met on (I think) match.com

lou33 · 13/11/2007 21:25

lol you called?

i have one from pof sleeping and poorly in my bed as we speak

he has been here since saturday, i have seen him on and off since july, but think this time we are going to give it a go and have both come off pof

incidentally i met my exbf online too, we dated for 9months until he emigrated in april this year

DavidTennantsMistress · 13/11/2007 21:26

lol mid!

after 8 years of being wiht H (since 17) all I want is some boy toys! not for sex or anything a nice meal/bottle of wine/emails and chats etc would be good.

i did have fun on there tho, especially with zippi, we used to play hunk or junk with the profiles of the guys

lou33 · 13/11/2007 21:27

ooh toy boys, yes, did i mention i only date younger men?

DavidTennantsMistress · 13/11/2007 21:28

thanks for the encouragement girls.

it's a bit scary this dating lark again now!

alos there's blokeys on that POF who are already in relatioships - I guess I wonder if they'll keep on there even if they're with me iycwim.

DavidTennantsMistress · 13/11/2007 21:30

lol@lou ooh that's mean! lol. good thou but mean! lol.

yes I think boy toys for now use and dump use and dump! lol. (i'm joking of course really it's just friendship I think I want) after 8 years with H it's hard to imagion someone new!

OP posts:
lou33 · 13/11/2007 21:30

you can filter out people and stop them from contacting you when you fill in your profile

for example, not allow anyone to contact you who smokes, takes drugs, is married etc

lou33 · 13/11/2007 21:31

well i was with exh for 17.5 yrs, i didnt find it difficult to move on at all

DavidTennantsMistress · 13/11/2007 21:36

ah right can you - really must have a good look around the site then

I wonder thou is it better to meet someone in RL or online - I guess just as much chance of it being a weirdo in RL as well!

i agree, you can chat to someone in a bar and go out for a drink with them and know just as little if not less about them, i dont see what the difference is really

i guess it depends on how often you get out and about to meet people irl as well

DavidTennantsMistress · 13/11/2007 21:48

not v often! lol.

how much is match.com do u know?

OP posts:
DavidTennantsMistress · 13/11/2007 21:49

ah quite expensive £60 - but I guess you wouldn't use it unless you were sincere?

OP posts:
yogimum · 13/11/2007 21:58

I met my dh on datingdirect.com. Been married 10 months.

lou33 · 13/11/2007 22:06

i wouldnt bank on it, sixty pounds is a lot to me but there are a lot of people it is nothing to

DavidTennantsMistress · 13/11/2007 22:10

true I guess so - it's a hell of a lot to me as well! lol.

OP posts:
lou33 · 13/11/2007 22:11

yes i dont or cant pay for dating sites

bigwombat · 13/11/2007 22:11

Met dp on udate, we've been together 18 months. I think I was very lucky, most people on there definitely lie about age and all sorts of other things. Photos usually years out of date etc...

bigwombat · 13/11/2007 22:13

It is a bit pricy though, but def a higher ratio of men to women. Watch out for them charging the next 3 months to your card without you authorising it...

lou33 · 13/11/2007 22:15

i have met alot of men from dating sites, mainly pof, and i do have to say they did all look like theri pics

pity their personalities didnt match up to their online ones tho lol
