Anyone fancy a single parent's camping trip?

I was just thinking that this is in most SP's price range (camping in general I mean) and how it would be really boring/hard to do it alone...although admittedly I have never tried but the thought of setting up a tent with DD running riot makes my brain bleed a little.
So...if it isn't too weird an idea....does anyone else fancy it?

Ahh ok. There's an Alice In Wonderland themed mini theme park in Bournemouth which the boys love too.

True, pool.might not be needed with beach nearby. And I'm not fussed on evening entertainment either, we can put the dc to bed and crack open the wine instead Grin

Fantastic. Well done op!

End of August fine by me, may have to do some jiggling with dds contact on Saturdays but I'll figure that out.

Would prefer pool but will sacrifice that if close to beach Smile no bother!

Evening entertainment is usually dire ime, boxes -and boxes-- of wine and the fresh air should suffice.

I'm happy with either site proposed and will keep scouting for more until a decision is final.

Can I suggest any drivers offer lift share? My van only has 2 seats but happy to meet people at station and take their luggage.

Dd is 16 months Smile

Fabulous! This is really exciting!
If we keep posting sites we like and can afford then try to tie the dates down, then we can all book in ourselves for however long we can do :)
Thank you so much for the offer of a lift - it's going to be 'interesting getting sleeping bags and a tent etc with a 2yo on a train! Good challenge though :)

Tell me about it that's why I'm learning to drive! Failed my test again yesterday and booked again for the 6th. I need to drive, I just can't cope any more with how restrictive public transport can be!

One of those site had a banner saying no single sex or mixed groups?!? Wtf does that even mean? I took it to mean something like its a family site no hen party's?

I have been looking at other sites but have really found anything that compares facilities/price wise.

How does everyone feel about dogs?

Yes, I think price and location-wise the last link posted for £11 per night is the best so far. A pool would be nice but I am hoping to be out and about exploring for most of the days so hopefully 'entertaining the kids' will be dinner and bed after that Wink
Although, dependent on the amount of wine weather it might be nice to have something they can do near the tent?

dogs are ok with me. Ds1 is always a bit wary of big dogs, but he gets over that quickly enough.
Bats and balls are normally allowed near tents, as long as the children are careful. My 2 play card gamrs/colour outside in the sunshine, but they are a bit older than the others :)
If people would prefer the site with the pool then we can do that? I guess it depends what we all want :)

I can't decide if it would be worth the extra for the pool. Would be nice just not sure if we would make the most of it. What does everyone else think?

She lives with a 16mo so shes thoroughly kid proofed!
Wouldn't be able to take her to this site if we do end of August but that isn't make or break for me.

Been reading the reviews of st Leonard's (the last link)

Lots of pluses a big one is they let you choose your pitch, which is obviously important so we can hang out when dcs in bed without leaving them to be ravaged by bears Grin

Shame about the pool but I don't think it's far to beach and a few reviews mention a kids play park.

Also I think it will work out cheaper for some if not every one pays for electric hook up, since we can just share one or two.

Just had a look and it's not especially close to sea, trying to figure out how far by public transport

Right close to new forest though!

I wonder if they'd mind if we brought a paddling pool? Grin

Electric hook up is only any use if we have the cables. I don't but could borrow them, and agree, we could share electric, we won't really need in tbh, except to charge phones.

My ds1 isn't keen on swimming, so.I'm happy not to have the pool. But if others would prefer it, that's cool too as he will get in.

I've taken a paddling pool before (attached to a bouncy castle) although that was with the camping club, and not on a commercial site Wink

That ones £28 per night though (plus an extra £4 for the second child, with a minimum of 3 nights! That's def out of my budget. Sorry!

Ah sorry I read it as £28 for the 3 nights but thought it sounded too good to be true!
Back to Plan A then? I think everyone liked that link nearer to the sea but without a pool

The st Leonard's one at £11 a night is not near the sea nor does it have a pool. It is accessible to local amenities which presumably includes a bus stop.

The oakdene one at £15 a night is not near sea but does have pool and on site shop etc, it says it a 1/2 miles to the nearest road though so public transport might be an issue.

The first link Sherpa wood? Is £22 a night so maybe a bit steep, although its dies have a massive pool in a greenhouse type thing swoon emoticon

In going to do a bit more trawling and try and find one closer to the sea if no one minds?
