Afternoon tea or a very nice lunch

Where would you head for afternoon tea or a nice lunch, for a special occasion? Budget is okay but not unlimited! I'm a bit fussy and a vegetarian.

Mildred's is a small chain of vegetarian restaurants. I love their food. The gate is another small chain which is more fancy.

Nice lunch every time.

An afternoon tea can be disappointing, even from the fancier places (F&M, Claridges, Savoy)...a nice lunch, from a nice restaurant, is always a joy. I recommend Quo Vardis.

NewYearEveryYear · 06/02/2022 19:27

Retracted about Quo Vardis, I forgot the vegetarian bit ... I have no experience of QV as a vegetarian.

Icepinkeskimo · 06/02/2022 19:32

The Wolseley, either for lunch or afternoon tea always fantastic.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/02/2022 20:04

Love The Wolseley. I like Mildreds, but ideally want something a bit more special.

I'll have a look at the Gate.

Thanks for these.

Wolsely is lovely and Ivy in Soho is nice

languagelover96 · 07/02/2022 14:34

The Ritz

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/02/2022 18:03

The original Ivy or one of the cafes?

I don't really fancy the Ritz for afternoon tea, as it sounds like a bit of a conveyor belt. Is it nice for lunch?

Thanks for all the ideas so far. Keep em coming! :)

Lunch anytime for me over afternoon tea- the Cinnamon Club is nice

Hoolihan · 07/02/2022 18:07

Lunch, definitely. The Palomar, the Brasserie of Light, Lyle's, Kitty Fishers, Galvin.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/02/2022 19:59

Thank you. The Cinnamon Club definitely appeals.

Bumping.

Anywhere that does a set lunch for up to about £50 a head where vegetarians aren't an afterthought?

Or a great afternoon tea where they keep bringing you food until you die? Grin

I really wouldn't do an afternoon tea. We've done quite a few 'posh' ones in London as a group and the veggies really get stung with rubbish sandwiches. Really isn't worth the cost (they're sooo expensive). There's lots of lovely restaurants in London where you can get a really lovely lunch for that price

PegasusReturns · 12/02/2022 16:15

Petersham nurseries in Covent Garden have great vegetarian options

TheGonnagle · 12/02/2022 16:18

The Kopitiam afternoon tea at Pan Pacific is amazing for veggies! The dim sum is epic and the mushroom bao was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. Cherish Finden is executive chef and the pastries at Christmas were so beautiful and totally delicious. Highly recommended.

TheGonnagle · 12/02/2022 16:19

And they did bring us extra dim sum but be careful - by the time the cakes arrived I was stuffed!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/02/2022 16:58

Thanks for these. I did enjoy afternoon tea at F&M though agree it was crazy money. We also like The Wolseley for a much more pared back afternoon tea (and some celeb spotting).

So many of the high end places only have one veggie choice on their lunch menu and also only post a 'sample' menu. As a fussy veggie, I need to be confident there will be something I can eat on the day and not just turn up and hope!

Will look at these ones. Thank you.

Any suggestions for really lovely lunches?

Has anybody been to Hakkasan for their lunch menu?

Also, any ideas for somewhere we can book for dinner at around 9.30pm one night?

Charlie and the chocolate factory afternoon tea e at number 1 Aldwich was amazing - and not just for children either. They will give you more until you are fit to burst!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 14/02/2022 18:00

Thanks, @Findahouse21 I think it might mean sitting around loads of other people's children though. Maybe one to save for when I've got grandchildren!

There's a gorgeous tapas restaurant in Waterloo, Meson Don Felipe. Great for lunch and dinner.
