I am a single parent of a 4 month and 13 year old on maternity leave until next May and would like to meet other single mums in local area (BS6 and environs) particularly those happy to talk of things other than sleep/feeding . . .

Anyone out there?!

Hmm... well, I posted it on Single With Kids, to see if other lone parents wanted to come out. Haven't had any confirmed 'yes' posts yet, but just to let you know...

I'm back from hols now - I enjoyed the company and the coffee and cake and looking forward to coming back for more.

DD sadly used the holiday to forget how to sleep through the night. She's at stage where she will try to nick my cake, so will need to gobble it fast or else build a wall around it - worried that my cake habit now DD presenting as very ready for solids not a great example - do i have to eat broccoli and sprouts now?!! Ugh BTW the blokes/burdens made me smile and I agree it makes no difference. good to be an eclectic mix of women - maybe we should try and find some gorgeous single dads to join us?!!

I noticed Bratnav you're doing book club - am thinking about doing it myself, but worried that I don't have discipline to read a book that doesn't grab me. Read Diana Athill memoir last week - easy, fascinating -but didn't get on with Toni Morrison's Oh Mercy instantly but will give it another go. Have you bought the book Bratnav? Is it easy?

See you Friday

Will be great to see you all

that's a nice idea about a Bristol book club, Mrs Tim is goin ok. It is a nice easy read and as it is in diary form it is full of natural breaks to stop and pay some attention to DS :0

Ninjacat · 17/11/2009 17:24

Due on Sunday Riven but measured 46wks on Friday. Just saw consultant today but they are not too fussed. Managed a bit of a walk as well so feel a bit more up beat.

Would love some book suggestions. Just can't find anything I can get into. Was bought PS I love you but hate it and keep trying to get into The Inheritance of Loss but just lose interest.

bratnav · 17/11/2009 19:40

Glad they are leaving you alone to get on with it Ninja, I was the same and they insisted on inducing me

hopefully see you on Friday

Ninjacat · 17/11/2009 20:43

Sorry, been offline for a couple of days, stuff here... Yes, I'm coming.

Emmmm · 19/11/2009 21:41

I'm coming - just saw your question to DC Riven - am v impressed and sounds like you'll get a personal letter - you must tell all! i shall get Mrs Tim and yes lets talk book clubs - I really liked the inheritance of loss but it maybe isn't the right book st this stage. I'm about to go to bed with sorrows of an american - I loved 'What I Loved' so am hopeful. I read The Bolter in the later stages of pregnancy which I reslly liked, and would recommend Memoir as a genre for the about-to-pop phase . . hope to see you tomorrow!

I read absolutely NOTHING in the late stages of pregnancy. I could manage about half a page at a time... I didn't manage to read a decent book for nearly three months - I hated it!!

Ninjacat · 19/11/2009 23:47

DP says he will haul me up the hill and deposit me at the museum so with any luck I will be there. Just don't confuse me for Alfred the Gorilla.
