let us see if anyone finds their way here

OP posts:
dustythedolphin · 06/11/2009 10:27

Sushi hope your eye ball is OK - that must be very scarey. I think my right eye needs reading glasses now but amd burying head in sand

SFX nice coat, practical and looks nice too

I viewed one house but it hadn't been finished!

Have had another job offer tho' so now have two jobs and no house!

Am arranging another visit so I can visit the two jobs and thus make a decision and also visit a whole bunch of houses (hopefully ones which have actually got electrical and telephone connections this time lol)

Need advice girls - have to decide between my heart and head re. job offers:

One job is dream job politically/network-wise/high profile but 80 mins drive away and money not great (pay drop from current post). But has nicer people and is in nicer location, beautiful historic city, office overlooking sea and historical monument.

T'other job is not so exciting but still OK 50/60 minutes away and about £15k per annum more paywise, but in high crime area in big ugly city and am slightly unsure about the person I'd be reporting to who is a bit officious

Help - what do I do?

sfxmum · 06/11/2009 10:37

sweetheart the clue is in 'dream job', if not now then when
must say office overlooking sea would probably sell it to me

I need a job

SushiMummy · 06/11/2009 10:54

Hi all.

Thanks for your kind words re my eyes.

KC - do you and Gherkin-kun want to come over Sun afternoon?

Dusty - I agree with sfx. With this dream job, is there any chance for you to get promoted in the next few years? I'd hate reporting to someone I don't like/respect. Good luck, anyway!

dustythedolphin · 06/11/2009 12:48

Hmmm but should I be taking a "dream job" when its a long commute and not much money?

In terms of career path the less exciting job has progression opportunities, whereas the lovely one does not.

Forgot to mention that dream jobby is fixed term contract and less exciting but more pay job is permenant.

Can you see why its head vs heart?

pcworld · 06/11/2009 13:06

Ohhh dusty - that is a tricky one. Perhaps your next trip will help you to think things through a bit more. The other job (the less attractive one) is still a long commute. Location of the other one sounds dreamy. Hope you can manage to work through to the idea solution. Re: housing - could you rent for a while? Or is that what your plan is anyway?

SFX - nice coat - I nearly got that one! Hope you are pleased with it when it arrives.
Pretty uninspiring day, huh?

Sushi - sorry to hear about your eye, that was a scare for you. Hope all ok now.

Vbus, twas nice to see you and your lovely boys earlier. It has been a v nice, relaxing day (yes, even factoring in a trip to the mega-Tesco!), just what I need in the current tired state.

Fancy a nice, leafy walk somewhere beautiful at the weekend, must go and check the weather forecast.

sfxmum · 06/11/2009 13:27

dusty dolphin how long is the fixed contract? you know moving away is a big deal and usually takes about a year to solidify/ be reasonably sure of the move so maybe not such a bad idea

is there anything guaranteed these days? in terms of work anyway

pcW and others thanks for coat praise, seen it before for an extra £50 so was pleased to find the link on MN. Have another dressier coat but this should do for everyday

an afternoon of baking I think, my family should be here tomorrow, hopefully will take dd to Kew on Sunday we will see

OP posts:
vbus · 06/11/2009 13:56

Sushi - sorry to hear about eye trouble, v. worrying

Dusty - it's tough one. I don't think there is a perfect job/lifestyle, in my book as long as the pros outweigh the cons then you're onto a winner. You'll be spending so much time at work it's important that you'll be with people/job that will make you happy. Ponder some more and hope you reach a decison that's right for you and your family.

PCW - thanks for having us over earlier, lovely to see you and DS, nice cuppa and chat

DS1 quite tired as he went to fireworks at school last night. DS2 just woke up so think I'll nip to M&S for meal deal before collecting DS1, good bit of exercise for me too!

dustythedolphin · 06/11/2009 14:43

SFX two year fixed term, but the job is actually permanent, so it would be made perm after the two years is up unless I cock it up that is

Long commute is big factor but new bypass being built which will reduce commute to about 70-80 mins. No flexible working, as need to be situated in office due to nature of job

Commute to closer one is about 60 mins anyway and in grotty city, but can work flexibly and from home sometimes

PC yes will rent initially until we are sure we want to settle for good

hmm money is quite a big factor

sfxmum · 06/11/2009 19:40

dusty I think you will see what is best after some reflection - best wishes, it all sounds exciting

sympathy please had Parkin disaster prepared it at the same time of dinner forgot direction for using deep pan and half of it spilled to the bottom of the oven during cooking

had to go for walk to calm down, wasn't the easiest of days to start with now having wine and profiteroles

I must go running in the morning can't wait

OP posts:
slng · 06/11/2009 19:51

Hello!

Had friend and kids round for play and tea. A good time was had by all, I think.

sfx - sympathies. Did a blueberry slice thing that spilled as well once. Not nice ... Am tempted with one of those oven liner thing. But obviously better if not spilled in the first place, I guess ... Hope wine and profiteroles help.

Biscuit has become jammie dodger.

I need something extra spicy. >

Kewcumber · 06/11/2009 21:56

sfx replied to your text. we were out at ikea most of the afternoon [trauma emoticon] but mattress isordered so no need to go again for several years.

Yes sushi Sun pm would be great.

tillyfernackerpants · 07/11/2009 06:46

hi everyone, for some reason MN has been acting up the last few days and hasn't let me post

sfx, sympathies with the parkin, hope your run today helps

dusty, sounds v exciting, re job decision sounds like a v tough choice. Like sfx says, maybe when you go back to have a look you'll just 'know' which one to take.

We've had a normal week, nothing unusual or exciting. Except ds1 keeps getting a high temp and then it disappears again after a couple of hours. Can only guess he's fighting something off, let's hope he wins!

Was it mean of me to be thankful for rain last night? Rain meant no fireworks which meant no ds1 climbing into bed with us. This after he was adamant he wasn't scared of them this year

sfxmum · 07/11/2009 09:22

good morning all

managed to sleep till late and now getting ready for a short run

KC have replied, also isn't this a big Welsh weekend? are you playing some game or something?

tilly had a few issues with the changes on MN maybe you need to re set cookies or something but they have been fixing most of the glitches
hope ds stays well

OP posts:
vbus · 07/11/2009 09:43

Morning

Sfx - bad luck re:parkin. I have not made it this yr with all the cakes and b'day's coming up. School at least gave 2wks notice for next cake sale but I am at a loss how I will decorate cake for next theme

Tilly - my MN view has changed. Hope DS is ok

Going to attempt a swim this morning, my 1st bit of exercise in a yr (excluding all the running around after 2 LO's)

Slng - LOL at jammy dodger

sfxmum · 07/11/2009 12:16

parkin is tasty

vbus dare I ask what the theme is?

OP posts:
slng · 07/11/2009 12:17

Good morning! Nice day!

Sent a very strongly worded email to school dinner providers. I spent THREE f**king days on the phone trying to get through to them and despite leaving messages no one phoned back. Their website is not accessible through normal browsers and when you do finally access it through internet explorer they happily take payments but don't tell you what you have paid for when. This is the first time I've encountered such medieval web services since Natwest e-banking service in 1998 (and I closed all my accounts at Natwest because of it...)

Harrumph.

Time for lunch, I suppose. Need spice.

tillyfernackerpants · 07/11/2009 13:38

My MN views have all changed as well, guess they were fixing stuff when I was trying to post, inconsiderate if you ask me

ds1 seems ok, just a bit of incoherent whining every now and then along with a bit of a temp. We did go to the park this morning & I think that actually helped!

vbus, what's the theme this time??

slng, sympathies with school dinners stuff. I think ds1 is going to be having packed lunches!

slng · 07/11/2009 15:37

tilly - DS1 usually has packed lunch but he wants school dinner for just one week, which would seem to be well nigh impossible. It's all about who you sit with rather than what you eat ...

Went to curry house for lunch just to discover that DC don't like gulab jamun. May have to disown them.

mellow2 · 08/11/2009 07:40

Sushi,

Sorry to hear about your eye. Had blurry vision in right eye about 2 years ago. It's only better in last 6 months. Would understand the worry.

mellow2 · 08/11/2009 07:50

Tilly,

Had problems with posting from iPhone too for 1 week.
Finally found a workaround.

Dusty,

Well done on getting 2 job offers. Hope you'll know soon which one you'll take.

Not much change here. Still living in a building site except our bedroom and bathroom are nearly finished and we have decent heating and hot water. Just hoping it will all get done before Christmas.

slng · 08/11/2009 18:33

Hello!

Nothing to report. Had a foray out to the swimming pool and one to get DS2 a new water bottle. He picked the one in shocking pink after rejecting the Bratz one.

Hello mellow. Do I remember correctly that you've been to Malaysia? How was the trip?

vbus · 09/11/2009 09:37

morning

Hope everyone had a nice weekend. My parents came back from holiday so stayed with us. We managed to sneak out to the pub on Sat night as they were tired and had an early night.

Sfx/Tilly - will text you the theme, any ideas greatly appreciated. Don't mind making the cakes but what's with all this decorating?

Mellow - glad house is taking shape, hope it will be finished soon

sfxmum · 09/11/2009 11:26

good morning all

mellow nice to see you good to hear there is progress on the home front

slng meal providers here seem to be shifty entities too

tilly hope ds is well now

we had family visiting on Saturday, nice to see niece, looks happy and nephew looks huge. then we went to see the fireworks at Ravenscourt Park, dd was exhausted by the time she got to bed
yesterday was quiet

started the day with a nice easy run, can't believe it is nearly time for school run again, barely did housework yet

hope everyone is well

OP posts:
dustythedolphin · 09/11/2009 12:06

Yes mellow, what's with the decs?

Well done SFX on running (feeling guilty here..). How old is your nephew?

Vbus, nice you got out for a grown up drink on Saturday

Am veering towards a decision on jobs - head is winning over heart atm. 'Tis hard to ignore £15k differential in pay offers

slng · 09/11/2009 12:12

Dusty - for me it would probably be the possibility of working from home.
