Morning all

Auntie - thanks for explaining, Slng hope you had your running shoes to get to the best seats

Sfx - enjoy hairdressers, reminds me I need to get mine done, it's getting a bit long and messy

DS1 hospital results were worrying, no weight gain in past year and allergies still strong need to decide what to do next for him

On a positive note DS2 has been in his cot all week and sleeping well, so might go the whole hog and move him to his room this weekend

sfxmum · 13/02/2009 14:11

thanks auntie very useful info must sharpen claws

SJ sorry to hear about DS1 do they think it has something to do with him being ill or totally unrelated? I hope there is some solution soon, he certainly is very bright so some nutrients going to the right places
and hopefully DS2 will start settling ok

dd is sporting a short bob 'I want to look like miniPCWorld please' hairdresser looked at me for description
she chatted all the way even asking her if she liked her job, the woman gave her a tube out smarties in the end

SJ99 · 13/02/2009 14:39

LOL at miniSfx request Pictures please

Not sure about DS1 weight, trouble is it yoyo's a lot, as soon as teething starts his meagre appetite plummets, then they are worried & say come back in 6mths to check his weight gain. If teething finished he regains weight then they say he's fine but come back again to check he's alright and doesn't need to go to growth clinic. The cycle repeats itself and has been going on since Oct 07, NHS is good service but a bit limited and v.slow. Was considering going for 2nd opinion as it just doesn't seem right to me and I want be sure I'm doing all I can for him.

Anyway going to introduce him to the world of pants & potties this afternoon! He's perfectly capable of going and has been asking for pants but he also tells me he's scared of potty/toilet. Need to try and change his mindset, cue star chart & bribery

SJ99 · 13/02/2009 14:42

Oh, bumped into one of my neighbours at preschool, her hubby is debuting in Eastenders tonight! Might have to make a special effort to watch it

sfxmum · 13/02/2009 14:46

with dd we let her play with potty, the thing was in the house for months then she decorated it with stickers, I tried to encourage her to sit in the potty about once an hour and made a huge fuss at the slightest drop
we are talking lots of clapping and cheering to actually taking pictures and calling grandparents BFB or what?
good luck, don't mind the accidents

I think you are right to want a second opinion and fairly extensive testing

SJ99 · 13/02/2009 14:51

Thanks for potty tips will try those tactics

Will call my uncle at wkend and ask what he thinks as he's peadiatrician. He's happy enough & very active so I'm not worried in that sense but I do have niggling feelings about this each time I speak to the docs/dietician about this

slng · 13/02/2009 20:08

Hello all!

Nothing to report. Just on to give advice about curtain-making so thought I'd wave.

SJ - good luck with potty and hope uncle gives reassurance.

OP posts:
mygreatauntgriselda · 13/02/2009 21:07

SJ was he the guy snogging Heather in the night club?

Sorry to hear about DS1 - what are the underlying reasons do you think? Is he not able to digest everything? [hug]

SJ99 · 14/02/2009 09:56

Auntie - Yes he was DH & I had a right laugh about it, he's going to get so much stick when I next see him his twins are at preschool with DS and they're expecting their 3rd child next mth

DS1 - they test him annually for various diseases which might limit his food intake /growth but none of them are positive thankfully. Have to see specialist again but not til June, which is why I thought might be better to get 2nd opinion as it all seems so drawn out.

Potty training going to be slow, DS absolutely no interest in wearing the pants . I'm having to bribe him with choc to sit on potty fully clothed, but at least he's doing that.

Happy Valentine's day to everyone!

slng · 14/02/2009 18:49

SJ - we did all the "preparation stage" things suggested by GF , like emphasising contrast between wet and dry when washing hands, token sitting on potty before bath etc, and when we came to the no-nappy stage it wasn't so terrifying (for LOs and for us!)

We are not doing the valentine thing, though DS1 did a valentine's card in school for DS2 which was sweet.

OP posts:
FriarKewcumber · 14/02/2009 22:57

SJ - I found the "scared of potty" bit was cured by using a more substantial one with arms (positioning it in fornt of Cbeebies helped too ). You're welcome to borrow it if you or DH want to pop over tomorrow at some point I'll dig it out.

I am a big wuss - DS made heart shaped biscuits at nursery on Friday and a card which was patently obviously really made by the adults! It was just the look on his face when he said "they for YOU mummy" and beamed at me all proud of himself. Tough old accoutant swallowed big lump and counted her blessings - sometimes shitty times can be brought into perspective.

sfxmum · 15/02/2009 11:30

hello all

hope everyone is well and having a nice weekend

how is the potty training going?

here all quiet, managed to run yesterday and hopefully later today too
otherwise lots of needed rest for all of us

lovely about the cards
we don't celebrate Valentine's although FIL mentioned we probably should do something special

sfxmum · 16/02/2009 15:43

hello was expecting loads of posts to read

I think I have been very industrious today with general 'housekeeping' and booking summer entertainment also managed to buy a breadmaker

hope everyone is well

slng · 16/02/2009 17:49

Hello all!

Very busy day. Had friend over with her two DDs. Cooked lunch, baked bread, washed up, laundry etc etc. LOs played really well together. Even went to the park and got all muddy. Now off to take DSs to bath and bed. Very tired children ... (and me ...)

rosmerta · 17/02/2009 11:41

Hi all, had no internet for the last week & still don't so have popped into the library to stay hello!

Unfortunately, I don't have time to catch up with everyone

Sj, with the potty we had it in front of CBeebies as well and I just left ds1's nappy & trousers off. He soon got the idea & would sit down on it though there were a few accidents! Its like this one which he got to decorate with stickers (we gave him one everytime he went in it).

Anyway, have to go as my time's about to run out & people are waiting! Hopefully I'll be back soon.

sfxmum · 17/02/2009 12:17

hello all

I expect everyone is busy keeping children entertained at half term

SJ hope potty training going well Ros that looks like a throne start as you mean to go on I say, hope you get connected soon

is it just me who is starting to feels like Spring?

slng are you having another tiring busy day? we must meet up sometime

dd at nursery back after being ill was a bit reluctant but I was glad to be able to do some running and so on

am being paid to do something tomorrow Hurrah should be fun all day away
(Hurrah at novelty not the money that is practically peanuts)

SJ99 · 17/02/2009 13:51

Hello all
Sfx - what's the gig tom?

Sorry have not been online as pc upstairs & have been trying to keep DS downstairs where we have no carpets

Feel like I'm in potty hell atm. Managed to persuade DS to wear his pants since Sunday which he now likes but we're still having plenty of accidents. He started off quite well sitting on potty & had a few successes but now I think the novlety has worn off and he has no interest in it, not even interested in getting choc/stickers rewards He just stands there doing his business making no effort to get to potty. Turns out MIL said DH was exactly the same, knew what to do but chose not to do it.

I know it will take time but I'm running out of ideas & starting to find it hard to conceal my frustration esp with babe to deal with as well. Ros - like the chair, might try that.
He's going to preschool tom so am keen to see what they report back.

Did any of you use pull ups, any good?

FriarKewcumber · 17/02/2009 13:58

I used pull ups but only after DS was pretty much dry and I didn;t want to risk an accident out. They workled fine for us.

You're welcome to try our potty-chair.

PS.

Platelets are nromal after 6 weeks off steriods and the nightmarish tioredness is a result of steriod withdrawal and should wear off over the next month or so.

SJ99 · 17/02/2009 14:06

Great news about platelets KC

Thanks for offer of chair, might nip round at wkend if you're about?

FriarKewcumber · 17/02/2009 14:09

probably around on Sunday but not Saturday.

SJ99 · 17/02/2009 14:13

Thanks, will text you at wkend then

sfxmum · 17/02/2009 14:19

good news FKC

SJ we did use pull ups but only when out and about to avoid accidents, also carried a potty everywhere it is trying but keep going sometimes children prefer staying with what is familiar and easier but they soon move on

about tomorrow, was asked to go in and test 2 new chapters to be introduced in future for the course I have just done, should be fun, it will go towards the cost of my next course, I really need to get serious and do bigger ones as part of a degree

SushiMummy · 17/02/2009 15:03

afternoon all. hope everyone is well.

sj - after successful start ds went 'can't-be-bothered' phase, too, so i know how you feel. in the end ds realised this is what other boys/girls do at preschool and that was it. we have lots of pullups if you want them.

kc - good news about platelets.

sfx - good luck with the work tomorrow.

slng · 17/02/2009 19:42

Hello all!

Been at work today while LOs were at MIL. Same arrangement again tomorrow. And then it's play play play till school starts again. Could be worse!

Re potty training: we never used pull-ups. DS1 was put in nappies to go out by the CM, which was one of the reasons we stopped going to her. I just lugged a potty about in a capacious bag. With DS2 he refused to wee in a nappy once he started this potty-training business, so we had to just bite the bullet and went about with a portable toilet seat. We got this and it has been useful for going out and holidays etc. When DS1 had the "can't-be-bothered" phase (and not just accidents) I went quite hardline and just made him clean up after himself and washed wet legs in the bath with the showerhead which he did not much like, so that was that... I still wonder if I had been too harsh ...

Am starving. Only had a sandwich for lunch, and that always makes me crave real food. I hate sandwiches, even nice ones made with lovely homemade bread ...
