Hope you find me!

sfx, according to ds1 CBeebies is boring now . I don't think he likes the new schedule!

Slng, lol at your boys! You'll have to keep us updated on the pigeon chase!

Am trying to decide whether I really need to go to the clinic for a talk on first aid, I'd much prefer a hot chocolate!

SJ99 · 06/02/2009 10:05

Morning

Slng - glad your DS is better. Have they caught the pigeon yet? LOL

Ros - I just think of hot choc as liquid happiness

PCW - hope DS show some improvement & you get some break tomorrow

Mellow - nice to see you yesterday Hope pc arrives soon

Sfx - hope DD is ok at nursery today. DS hardly tells me anything about what he's been up to at preschool I really have to probe him to find out what he's been doing!

He's still a pain to get out of the house (took 20mins of coaxing this morning!) but as usual as soon as we arrive there's no backward glance. I think he makes a big deal refusing to go as he knows it winds me up

sfxmum · 06/02/2009 10:19

SJ we went through a phase of 'I am not going' but not lately she has been ready quite early and of course it helps that she is eating breakfast without being prompted and coaxed, today is not a nursery day we are just taking it easy at home, with Cartonito at least she is learning French

Ros is first aid for your course? I used to have first aid and resuscitation training every year, it was usually a fan day off normal duties and btw they do make very realistic dolls these days especially the babies

pcworld · 06/02/2009 10:24

Morning, all.

Sing - how is your ds today?

At this end, ds is back on form! Hooray. Mind you, it's another boring morning at home am REALLY bored at this point. Roll on the weekend and roll on next week when we can be back out and doing again!

SJ99 · 06/02/2009 10:34

PCW - hurray DS is better! I can imagine you might be going a bit stir crazy

Sfx - I think DS also playing up because of teething. BTW what's Cartonito?

sfxmum · 06/02/2009 10:38

pcW oh yes being stuck indoors with poorly children does drive you mad but glad he is better

SJ it is a tv channel not as bad as some and they do lots of French which dd is keen to learn, she has also been asking me to read in Portuguese at bedtime and she says one in Portuguese and one in normal language

SJ99 · 06/02/2009 11:50

That's great she's showing an interest in other languages. DS1 has been asking to spell Swedish words which he has seen in some of his books which I purchased when living there. Not surprisingly his favourite word is the Swedish for car

sfxmum · 06/02/2009 12:12

am sorry about my obsession but so far today, since 8 am dd has had
2 bowls of cereal plus extra milk
I slice of banana bread
a small box of raisins
1 crumpet with cheese on top
an apple

and she is asking for soup and bread for lunch

maybe it is a tapeworm?

sfxmum · 06/02/2009 12:15

about languages dd seems very English when words sound the same in assorted European languages she just says 'but is really the same isn't it?'

can you tell I am procrastinating tiding my cupboards?

FriarKewcumber · 06/02/2009 12:18

sfx - are you sure your real dd hasn't been abducted by aliens?

sfxmum · 06/02/2009 12:23

OMG it is a pod child

slng · 06/02/2009 13:50

sfx - sounds like normal amount of food. Or are my children gluttons?

SJ - I'm addicted to Henning Mankell's novels at the moment. Do you read them? I never thought I'd become quite so familiar with Swedish geography ...

As for languages DS1 calls them "mummy's language" and "daddy's language". Don't think he knows what they are called until recently. They sometimes have a funny intonation when they speak chinese but periodically they'd catch you out with a perfect sentence.

SFX maybe it is a growth spurt. Or just the cold weather. dd can have days where she will pretty much clear out the fruit bowl (I have seen 3 x bananas in a row go!) followed by tea and then a bonus round and a half of toast!

slng · 06/02/2009 13:59

PC - not sure if I can complain. Just had a half-hour nap, kids playing upstairs quietly, and we are due out for tea later. Come to think about it, there's something dodgy about "kids playing upstairs quietly". Must go check.

sfxmum · 06/02/2009 14:08

well yes 'when it is quiet panic'

dd glueing stuff am bored too but my book is keeping me entertained as anyone read 'the suspicions of Mr Wincher'? it is very well written and interesting a sort of historical whodoneit

mellow2 · 06/02/2009 14:21

When I ask dd whether she liked her the children at nursery, she says, "I don't want to tell you."

It used to worry me. I would wonder if there was anything going on. But I guess you just have to trust your instincts.

Dh is away for half term week (of all weeks) , and I bought myself a new translation of War and Peace to read in the evenings.

SJ - It was nice to see you too. Hopefully the laptop will arrive tomorrow and she'll love it.

Sfx - That is a lot of food for mini sfx. But dd does eat that amount, and more, on a regular basis so I wouldn't be alarmed.

SJ99 · 06/02/2009 14:48

I have 'a Thousand Splendid Suns' to read next, it has been sitting on my bedside table untouched for past 3mths I'm sure one day I'll find time to read again.

Slng - Haven't read any of his books, are they any good? He seems to get good reviews, might look one up, which do you recommend?

Sfx - that is lots of food, must be a growth spurt. So far DS has eaten 2/3 of a weetabix for brek, a biccy at preschool for snack and half a small bowl of risotto for lunch. He asked for pear for his dessert but then didn't eat any of it. He told me his mouth was hurting cue yet more calpol

mellow2 · 06/02/2009 15:29

I don't have the courage to read a 2nd book by him. I was really traumatised by the Kite Runner. I know. I don't look such an innocent.

sfxmum · 06/02/2009 15:38

I am sure I have posted before about the Kite runner but both dh and one of my sisters did not like t much I think 'predictable' and 'over sentimental' were words used so I have no desire to touch them.

I have a loose list of what I want to read next , usually I have a non fiction and fiction going just happens that now it is 2 non fiction.

and dd continues to eat
mellow dd says the same about school friendships at times and often the answer to 'what did you do today' is NOTHING

dh left his mobile home I expect he has not noticed yet but the damned thing rang 10 times in 15minutes so it is off now, he must be enjoying the peace and quiet

rosmerta · 06/02/2009 16:45

Despite its subject matter, I quite enjoyed the Kite Runner, don't think it was as good as the hype though (are they ever?!). I've just finished Twilight which was quite enjoyable!

Whenever I ask ds1 what he's done in nursery, I just get a list of what he's eaten, which doesn't even match up to what the nursery staff tell me! He also now has 'best' friends, I thought he was too young to pick up on that concept but apparently not.

mellow2 · 06/02/2009 17:04

sfx - I'm a sucker for sentimental claptrap!

sfxmum · 06/02/2009 17:20

LOL mellow

Ros Twilight strkes me as a chaste Buffy with fewer one liners and more monsters
not read it

dh finally noticed is phone is missing

dd demanding lasagne NOW best get on then

rosmerta · 06/02/2009 17:30

sfx, lol, you're not far off!

sfxmum · 06/02/2009 21:57

if any of you like Elbow I d recommend this BBC live recording, quite perfect

slng · 06/02/2009 22:04

SJ - I like all the Wallander books I've read: "sidetracked", "the white lioness", "faceless killers" and "before the frost". But I'm reading one now that's not a Wallander novel - "the return of the dancing master" - and it's very good and quite scary. But then I was terrified and had nightmares when I read Dracula ...
