Hi - just a quick hello. hope to see some of you on friday for a proper catch up - haven't quite got teh hang of 3 kids yet.

Ros - did you get my cat?

ComeOVeneer · 06/01/2009 18:32

Slng, I haven't done any gluten free cakes as yet but I think it would be a good thing to add to my repetoire (sp).

SJ99 · 06/01/2009 18:39

We took in duvet under mattress too, seems to work. We have 4.5tog which is fine in winter was bit hot for DS during summer, he's a hot blooded male .

Sfx - can't you change thermostat setting for nighttime? We have the same system and at night we just lower the temp so heating only comes on if really cold (v. eco friendly). I want to have an adult size grobag, they look so snug!

LOL at bad luck wearing socks, news to me

Slng - I have loads of dairy free cake recipes if you want me to send you the link?

slng · 06/01/2009 19:28

SJ - dairy-free cake recipes would be brilliant! I sort-of found the chocolate nemesis cake which is gluten-free but uses lots of butter but I wonder if a lot depends on the butter and if I replace that it would all go wrong. Or does a chocolate nemesis go wrong easily anyway?

OP posts:
slng · 06/01/2009 19:36

SJ - it's funny how some people are just not cold, isn't it? DS2 sleeps on top of his duvet with his tummy to the world and he's never complained. He used to unzip himself out of the grobag ... Me, I am sitting here with 2 shirts and 2 jumpers on and a scarf and the heating on full blast ... It's time to heat up my leftover waterzooi.

ComeOVeneer · 06/01/2009 20:21

ComeOVeneer · 06/01/2009 20:22

slng never heard of chocolate nemesis cake tbh.

slng · 06/01/2009 20:49

cov - here

OP posts:
pcworld · 06/01/2009 20:51

Oh, cripes, sorry Cov - will message you on facebook. I miss my old name but it's too late to turn back now!

rosmerta · 07/01/2009 07:55

morning all, another cold day, seems like our fire is on permanantly!

Cov, cakes look amazing! No idea on prices though, sorry!

Am going to try & get out of the house today. Ds1 doesn't want to go out atm because its too cold but I'm getting a little stir crazy. I don't think I've had an adult conversation with anyone but dh in the last 2 days!

SushiMummy · 07/01/2009 08:54

OK, socks didn't work. He had them on all night but still woke up at 4 am.[sighs] And we had the CH on all night.[still ignoring eco friendly business]

There are all sorts of Japanese superstitions, like never sleep with your head pointing north, never clip toe nails late at night, don't go to bed with socks on, etc. I was brought up by my grandmother (mum was a wohm) so had all these nunsense embedded in my brain cells.

SushiMummy · 07/01/2009 09:07

Story behind of no socks in bed, I think, is to do with adjusting body temparatures. If feet kept constantly warm, they lose ability to adjust temps accordingly, so they seem to believe. V unscientific, me thinks.

CoV - cakes look fab. Bet they taste fab, too.

Hope everyone is well.

mygreatauntgriselda4christmas · 07/01/2009 09:08

KIds back to school today but DH taking them as I have had to come into work

and new cleaner starting - oooh the excitement

Slng - DD doesn't feel the cold and even now wanders around in a summer T shirt!!

Has everyone taken their decorations down then?

slng · 07/01/2009 09:34

Morning!

Just finished school/nursery run and decided I shall just sit in my coat all day. I've got a lovely coat that has been variously described as a portable igloo and a mobile duvet. Certainly keeps you warm.

Sushi - we've got lots of superstitions too. I vaguely remember one about cutting nails at night. By the way Sushi - do you ever make sushi rolls? Is it difficult? DS1 has decided he likes sushi now and has aspiration of having them for packed lunch! I think if I keep catering for such fancies he'll never go for school dinners ... but it is a challenge ...

Morning.

Ros I sympathise with the cabin fever, we are on day 3 of chicken pox confinement. I have a lovely friend doing the school runs so haven't left the house since Sunday morning. It is dd's birthday tomorrow and dh is taking the day off work so he can collect her from school and spend the afternoon with her. I will be running away for a few hours after I have dropped her at school. Such exciting things as B+Q for light bulbs and wallpaper samples, oh be still my beating heart

Aunty I have taken down my inside decs but still need to do the outside lights down the bannisters and in the bushes, no chance until it is warmer out there (which seems to be the general consensus in the square!)

SushiMummy · 07/01/2009 09:55

slng - making sushi rolls is dead easy but you must have a sushi roll mat (made of bamboo) which I think you can get easily in London. The thing about making sushi rolls is never put too much rice on it. You can also cut out nori sheet to car shaped, flower shaped, robot shaped etc with these special gadgets sold in Japan. If you want it, I can get it for you. Have you tried furikake on rice? DS loves it.

sfxmum · 07/01/2009 11:44

good morning all

socks seem to have worked a bit but I still woke up several times to cover her up, dd did not fully wake up just made noises

felt awful this morning that I left dd crying at nursery she said mummy I am scared and started crying the carer picked her up for a hug as I left and I could hear her cry hitching to go pick her up

on the plus side don't seem to have put on weight over Christmas according to WW meeting

cov afaik Waitrose charge £15-20
for ten cupcakes no where as decorated as yours ans as for the bigger cakes well would not know where to start

sfxmum · 07/01/2009 13:49

and of course dd was fine and jolly at pick up
and another grey hair

ComeOVeneer · 07/01/2009 14:26

SFX they are always like that. The trials and tribulations of parenthood.

I have been keeping ds entertained by downloading loads of old photos onto facebook for anyone who wants to see!

rosmerta · 07/01/2009 16:02

Well we made it out today, only to Lollipop but better than nothing. As a bonus, ds1's buggy bike turned up which made the journey so much easier.

sfxmum · 07/01/2009 16:41

thanks COV PFB strikes again

Ros that looks fun, never saw one before, glad you made it out must go to lollipop sometime

deadline for my end of course essay narrowing by the hour sooo lazy, but must do some tonight and a fair chunk after running tomorrow and while dd is at nursery, from next week she will be on 3 mornings, whatever shall I do?

ComeOVeneer · 07/01/2009 16:58

SFX, both of mine never batted an eyelid and I struggle to get a goodbye out of them, not sure what is worse

SJ99 · 07/01/2009 17:06

Sfx - Good luck with finishing essay. Glad DD was alright. I guess the break disorientates them somewhat. 3 mornings/wk = more MN time which days will she go then?

Sushi/Slng - my mum also has lots of bizarre sayings like you're not allowed to do any sewing at night as that is bad luck, plus many more gems.

Ros - glad you made it out, by looks fun, do you stand by the side of the seat? Buggy board is working out really well for us

COV - how is DS doing?

Auntie - how was new cleaner?

DS2 had his 1st set of jabs today. DH away in Bristol tonight. I have put both ofthem to bed before on my own so that is ok, but I will miss not having someone bring me a cup of tea before the nght shift starts

ComeOVeneer · 07/01/2009 17:10

Ds looks worse than he seems to feel. He has spent most of the afternoon on my lap "helping" me make photo albums on Facebook.

Can't wait until tomorrow when dh has the day off work so I can finally venture out into the big wild world again!
