Morning everyone

Oooh go on little Knickers She'll be running all over the place in no time I bet she was dead pleased with herself, i remember when Ben first walked, he didn't want to stop! I thought i should put extra padding in his nappy

Hope everyone's okay xxx

wotulookinat · 24/06/2008 20:15

Are we having a storm tonight? It's very grey and oppressive out there.
Knickers, one of my sunflowers has been bent over I don't know how because it was behind some others - might have been a bird.
I've kind of tried to hold it up with a second pole. Hope it works.
Hiccy, how long does it take to get to Scunthorpe from here? And do you know how long it takes to get to York? I have a (posh) friend coming up with her 5yr old daughter at the start of August and she likes to do 'cultured' things - which I guess rules out the market and Cheeky MOnkeys!! I don't have a clue where to take her! She has suggested York but I've never been there. Last time she came up I suggested the sculpture park but she had been there already. I took her to Tropical World, which her daughter liked but she wasn't too impressed. What sort of (boring) National Trust and/or historical stuff is there around here, within a reasonable driving distance?

Hello

Wot, York and Scunthorpe are about an hour from Wakefield, could be quicker depending on traffic. York's lovely, there's the Viking centre, Railway museum with Thomas the tank engine and train rides (not been to that myself), and the York eye is right next to it. Boat trips on the river and the Minster is lovely to walk around. It's a really nice day out with loads of places to eat and there's usually lots of street entertainers about too (i want to go now!)

Never been to Scunthorpe, what's there?

hiccymapops · 24/06/2008 21:10

You could go to Harewood house in Leeds too, and it's not far from Kirkstall Abbey.

Friendlypizzaeater · 24/06/2008 21:51

Harrogate is nice and cultered - if you start saving up now you could do tea at Bettys !!!

I'd go with York - the shops are lovely and some of the stuff is free (Railway Museum def is - though I'd take a picnic nearly had heart attack last time it was £19 for a basic cold dinner for 3 of us, had to pay by switch cos didn't have enough cash !!)

Friendlypizzaeater · 24/06/2008 21:51

And yes we are having heavy rain here !

wotulookinat · 24/06/2008 23:27

Cool, thanks for the help people!
Knickers, I have tied the sunflower plants very loosely to the sticks but maybe I need to do it tighter. It's the first time I have tried sunflowers.
And my spider plant is having a couple of babies which I should be able to pot in a couple of weeks if you need another one.
I thought about the Coal Mining Museum as DH and I want to go, but he's going to football that day (Millwall v Oldham I believe) and I think he'd be gutted if I went without him.
We went to Harrogate last year when we were in the Dales (we were meant to be househunting in Wakefield!) and looked at Betty's - it was like £16 for a cuppa so we went to the Yate's up the road! What uncultured people we are

wotulookinat · 25/06/2008 23:49

Hi Phoenix - good to hear from you
If you're free on Friday morning, I am having a coffee morning (now that makes me sound boring and old!) and it would be lovely if you could come - and Trace too if she is free. Email me for address. xx

Knickers perhaps the shock of doing it has stunned her

Phoenix - glad you enjoyed the seaside - I miss that with DS being at school - we just used to jump in the car and was off - sigh ! never mind 6 weeks hols are nearly here .....

I'm off to LF to bake cookies & scones in a few mins - gulp !

wotulookinat · 26/06/2008 19:03

Hi all, looking forward to seeing people tomorrow. It might only be a few of us but doesn't matter, eh?

Phoenix · 27/06/2008 20:38

Hi all hope you had a good morning at Wots. I could have come cos dh got called into work so i didn't go to the funeral cos i'd have had to take Lew with me and he would have been a nightmare in the church, and a funeral isn't a good setting for a screaming toddler . So i stayed home and called in at the wake to drop Lewis off with my mum while i went to work.

Hope everyone's ok

Phoenix it would have been good to see you. You would have had to put up with my doggie barking non-stop though . I think he thought Pizza was going to attack us or something!!
And thank you, Knickers, too. I'm glad you were there when the landlord came. Now it's all signed he can't chuck us out for another year ha ha ha!! He clearly wasn't impressed at the pets but I'mnot impressed with his mending of the toilet with sellotape. Come on Wakefield, give me a house!

hiccymapops · 28/06/2008 08:29

Morning everyone

I'm glad you all had a good time at Wots yesterday. Very jealous i missed home made cookies!

We went to Scarborough The weather was lovely, we we're luckier than you Phoenix. I went all prepared to get soaked, and it stayed nice all day. I even had to put suntan lotion on Ben We went to the Sealife centre too, it's the first time i've been, i nearly stealythiefed a penguin, but i don't think Bens paddling pool is big enough

Hope everyone's okay and enjoys the weekend xxx

wotulookinat · 28/06/2008 08:35

Morning Hiccy. I would have given you our paddling pool to help out with the penguin (lol at 'stealythiefed'!)
Jon is working this morning but should be back at one and I think we are going to some fete thingy in Stanley - although the weather looks a bit miserable.
We're off to London tomorrow, probably until Weds. Jon's going to his dad's (I'm about that, but I'm sure Knickers is sick of hearing about it) while I go to my look after my mum because my dad is going in for a double heart bypass on Monday . It was only found out to be necessary on Weds after a routine check-up through his work. We found out yesterday that it's a double one. So if I'm not around you know why - send nice thoughts to me!
