New thread for new month!

OP posts:
sfxmum · 07/04/2008 11:24

nighties for dd that is, kids clothing and bedding should not really be with that many man made fibres

Paddlechick666 · 07/04/2008 11:31

god really? didn't know that!

how about www.figchildrensnightwear.co.uk/ or www.kidsshouldbekids.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=54&products_id=51&osCsid=33b14da4ff9f578d9af03b898 6597265

la redoute too.....

sfxmum · 07/04/2008 11:35

will look around thanks Paddle, can't take dd shopping for that because she will want the character ones and they are all 100% polyester

mellow the bags were very well received and sister seems keen on getting another one with beading, she got the purple one.

fitfox · 07/04/2008 11:40

Was gonna suggest Laredoute/vertbaudet.

Also Primark - almost all 100% cotton and v good value

gaelsmama · 07/04/2008 11:42

hey mommas

i'm joining this thread from the night out one but should introduce myself once more - new-to-London/new-mama (5 month old babe).

wondering if anyone would like to grab a cup of tea this week?

also, we're just getting settled and i'd love to get your words of wisdom about the area ... any good wash-n-fold places for our laundry that is baby-friendly/eco-friendly? and don't laugh too hard but i somehow managed to forget to pack a SINGLE coat (rain or other) ... hip boutiques in the area?

thanks - what a lovely group this is!

slng · 07/04/2008 11:48

Hi Gaelsmama,

Ealing council has links to nappy washing service:
www.ealing.gov.uk/services/environment/recycling/reusable_nappies/

I've not use them (links or service!) so don't know if they are any good. (I've also got some motherease airflow wraps - if you are interested I'll dig them out to see what sizes they are ...)

sfxmum · 07/04/2008 11:56

hi gsmum am deeply unfashionable so can't advise on shops but Richmond and Kingston are full of shops of wide ranging prices so am sure you could find something you like

did you leave the coats behind because London is well known for its lovely weather?

as for nappies was thinking the library might have info likewise the GP surgeries

Paddlechick666 · 07/04/2008 11:59

Hi Gaels, welcome to the area/thread.

I shirk work full time so only around on weekends for catch ups.

Where have you come from then? Kingston has some good shopping altho not sure what your defintion of hip boutique might be

Richmond has some nice shops too. Am sure you'll find something to suit you.

sfxmum · 07/04/2008 12:13

must ask is your name in honour of the lovely mr.bernal?

about coffee I have a rather unpredictable toddler who often refuses to leave home. but can invite you over to Kew gardens one day if you wish, I have guest passes

same for Lau btw a lot of us spend ages there and have season tickets, which makes it a cheap place to let the kids run free

SushiMummy · 07/04/2008 12:14

Hi all.

Welcome, Lau and Gaelsmama. I am a WOHM in Kew and my DS is 2.5.

Foxie - welcome back! Glad you had a nice holiday.

SJ - good luck with the offer. Exciting, isn't it?

sfx - how did the essay go? Did you manage to watch TV?

slng - forgot to mention they have Bob the Builder on tellie in Japan (translated into Japanese) so highly likely they have it in Chinese?

My cat seems to be on the mend and he can be discharged today. We have a new vet in Kew specialising cats , so v handy for us!

SJ99 · 07/04/2008 12:44

That's good news about your cat Sushi. Glad DS didn't have to miss out on Bob while he was away!

Paddle - Yes please, can I have the mortgage advisor's phone no? Much appreciated [smile I was going to use agent's advisor but I never believe they are truly independent

Hello Gmama - Kingston and Richmond best bet for shopping, you'll be spoilt for choice. About tea, it's turning out to be quite a crazy week apart from today which is why I'm deliberately not doing anything. I have to go to Kingston on Weds to pick up a top I ordered for this wedding on Fri (I really hope it arrives in time) So could meet for a cuppa there (anyone else?) but would have to be in afternoon as I just realised I booked a trial dance class for DS on Weds am, already cancelled once so better go this time

Sfx - not sure about girls stuff but Tesco's boys pj's are cotton, maybe worth trying?

MrsRecycle · 07/04/2008 13:45

hi ladies - gosh a lot to catch on from the weekend. Welcome back foxie - glad you had a nice time. Will ring neighbour tonight and get back to you.

sj - good luck with the house search.

bunyan - enjoy your trip out - how is ds doing?

gmama - welcome - I gate-crash this thread - I'm in Ruislip.

Lau - I have a df whose just moved into the area and for a moment I thought your were her (has the same name!) but she has 2 ds's.

sfx did you get the essay finished? slng and I had a lovely evening, shame you couldn't make it.

COV - hope the LOs aren't getting under your feet too much. Mine are at the ILs for the week.

I had a lovely weekend - went to Kew Gardens on Saturday with LOs and MIL, ds ended up in the pig pen and got knocked over and was covered in mud. He kept on trying to let the chickens out as well. DDs held a chick and had their faces painted. It was a lovely day, until the rain set in.

Kewcumber · 07/04/2008 13:45

still sick - have finally succumbed (sp?) and going to the doctor this evening.

Hello newbies - I'm the worst possible person to ask about anything with the word trendy or boutique in the question. Ask me a question about changes to retirement releif on shares and you're in with a chance though...

MrsRecycle · 07/04/2008 13:46

sushi - meant to say good news about the cat - glad she is on the mend.

sfxmum · 07/04/2008 13:55

KC sorry you are still poorly, hope doc helps

mrsR&sushi I did finish and made time for the TW finale

good news about your cat sushi

and where is Ros? hope you ok

Kewcumber · 07/04/2008 14:13

think doc will just say "its a virus" which is why I haven't been before now. But my boss has bullied me into it. At least I get to leave work early.

slng · 07/04/2008 14:46

Poor Kew! I predict "non-specific viral infection" but prescribe antibiotics in case of secondary bacterial infection. Anyway you never know - doctors supposed to be able to help. Good luck!

sushi - did see Bob the builder in Chinese DVD sold on some china website but in doubt about playable zone ... Anyway will look when I go back to Malaysia.

Kewcumber · 07/04/2008 14:51

I suspect you are right slng. I don't need antibiotics - I need some energy.

On the upside DS have been dry 2 days now and happily weeing on potty (has to be prompted). Won't poo though. Thought they were supposed to be able to control their poo before wee?

slng · 07/04/2008 14:54

I think it's supposed to be night-time poo, day-time poo and then wee, in that order. Though apparently some kids have complex about pooing in potty and prefer pooing in nappies...

Anyway Kew if you found out where to get energy let me know! Perhaps one could siphon some off the LOs?

SushiMummy · 07/04/2008 14:55

QC - sorry to hear that you are still ill. You really need good rest and lots of fluid. I had to go to see docs when I was off sick with flu/virus for HR reasons. Oh and my coughs lasted good 5 weeks. Hope you feel better soon.

Slng - we have a multi-system DVD player so we can watch Japanese ones. Must say my DS's Japanese improved so much during the holiday.

Well, on Sat the vet told us the cat was critical and we thought we were losing him. Sooo relieved and happy that he's better now (still needs lots of medication/treatment, tho.). Can't wait to give him lots of cuddles and kisses.

sfxmum · 07/04/2008 14:56

KC dd was able to go without night time nappy before she was comfortable doing a poo in the potty, seemed like a comfort issue to me.
she still will not do it in the toilet

and well done Gherkin dd still needs reminding on occasion

SushiMummy · 07/04/2008 15:00

QC - well done to Gherkin-kun! My DS has been weeing on potty last 4 months but only did poo twice. Like Slng say, he is one of those likes to poo in nappies.

bunyanvillas · 07/04/2008 15:07

Hi Gmama - welcome! I'd love to have a cup of tea with you but not this week as it's still too early days with ds. Ventured out for a walk and a coffee today! Small steps forward. Was great to get out plus he is a wee bit jaundiced and needs the natural light. There are some hip little boutiques on Chiswick High Road as well as loads of cafes, bars, restaurants etc, you might like to check that area out too as it's not far away. Have you literally just moved here?

SJ, what is the trial dance class, any particular style? I'd been wondering about something similar for dd but haven't got round to investigating yet.

QC - sorry to hear you are still under the weather. Definitely a good idea to get to the doctor and also perhaps get yourself some vitamins. Is lack of sleep an issue for you or does ds sleep well at night?

Lausy · 07/04/2008 15:13

Have just made some lemon drizzle cake in a fit of baking excitement - who wants some! House smells lovely now!

I haven't been to Kew Gardens yet (shame on me) but would love to give it a try, what sort of things are there? Apart from gardens of course! DH takes the car every morning though so may be difficult for me to get to

Am going to my mums on Wednesday with my sister and her two kids, any ideas how to stop them feeding Dayan pot plant and floor fluff??!! Also how to stop nagging mums??

Lausy · 07/04/2008 15:15

Welcome GMama, I've only just joined too! Where do you live? Am free for a coffee only tomorrow I'm afraid, in Isleworth as I have no car!
