How exciting to be starting thread

Yay, thanks Sfx, am already looking forward to banana bread, mmmm!

In Sweden they had Noise Police (everything is so formally governed over there) but what a great idea, they used to go and put a stop the noise polluters, no messing.

Mrs R - LOL!!!!!!!!!!

I'm at work on Thursday unfortunately. You must pop in for a cuppa next time you are around the area though Do you ever go to Gurnell Leisure Centre?

Paddle - if it was America you could just shoot the neighbours!!! Agree the bloke sounds creepy - perhaps that is why the woman is so stressed out ('cos of the creepy man) - who do you think is more bonkers - him or her?

SJ - sorry to hear about your poor DS - hope he is OK. DS1 fell down some really steep stairs when he was one. We rushed him to hospital and he ran round the waiting area playing with the water dispenser - clearly right as rain. They are quite rubber aren't they?

SJ99 · 28/01/2008 21:20

Thanks for well wishes, just checked on DS and he seems fine, no blood on sheets, sleeping on his side with arms stretched out behind him (doing Liam Gallagher impersonation ) Yes was on the verge of taking him to A&E but he played really well this afternoon after fall, they must be pretty resiliant

LOL Steppie - hope you enjoyed the vino

PC - defo sounds like a weirdo even if he did apologise, anyway let's hope the situation improves from now on

Job thing still all tbc but I just wanted to tell someone about it! Had telephone interview today for marking exam papers, not a terribly exciting job but it is something I can do from home and will help keep my technical skills up to date. The woman sounded v.positive, next I have to do a test case, if I pass then I get the job, fingers crossed

Mon dieu, this thread moves quickly! SJ, potential congrats on the job and glad ds is ok, it's horrid when something like that happens. PC, sorry to hear of your woes, I hope things improve there. Mrs R, dd & I are around on Thurs if you fancy a meet-up. The good news is that my bathroom is nearly finished, hurrah! And I now have a mirror which is helpful, so no more excuses for looking like a scarecrow anymore

sfxmum · 29/01/2008 09:12

good morning all

hope the poorly dc are ok today

SJ hope all ok with ds

mrsR will be around Thursday, the forecast is heavy rain (sorry about weather obsession) so maybe something indoors?

Am trying to speed up dd has we are due at Richmond hamlet at 11 for her check and I want to walk down there.
she woke me up last night asking for her potty, so clearly needs a bed she can get out of by herself

we might end up at Lollipop afterwards as I just don't fancy the pool today

sfxmum · 29/01/2008 09:13

Kewcumber · 29/01/2008 09:45

OK question... why does a child who hasn't been sick since about 10am, wait until darling mummy comes to pick them up after a hard day at the office before projectile vomitting all over said mummy?

Paddlechick666 · 29/01/2008 10:39

oh no kew, sounds like that thing dd had mid nov. she would be sick once in the morning then nothing till teh evening. then nothing for 2 or 3 days then another couple of vomits.

the following week she had the chest infection and after that i think she had a touch of 'flu.

dd still isn't 100%, sleeping lots (altho awake v. early this am!), looking a bit pale and generally pretty intolerant etc.

hope he's better soon and that you managed to get cleaned up ok!

rosmerta · 29/01/2008 14:14

hi all, hope gherkin is feeling better kew

Sj, glad ds is ok as well. Ds keeps doing stuff like that as well, very scary!

Well, it started as a lovely day and seems now its likely to rain [boo]!

sfxmum · 29/01/2008 14:21

hope gherkin and mini paddle are ok now

we did the health/ development review this morning and were given books crayons ans leaflets in a bag. Instead of lollipop we went to Kew Gardens as it was nice and sunny, a rarity this week it seems.
hope everyone ok

stepfordwife · 29/01/2008 14:33

hello chaps
how you all diddling?

kew. bummer. is ds at your ma's or have you had to take time off? it really is a nigtmare trying to sort work/childcare when they're ill, isn't it? hope he's ok

sfx..two-and-a-half year check-up dd hasn't had one/been summoned for one. mind you, haven't seen a HV since she was born.

SJ...what sort of exam papers would you be marking? sounds fab as you can do it from home

well, got throat lurgy and making mariella frostrup sound like a soprano..
pity the poor people i've been rasping down the phone to today...
just feel like crawling under the duvet but back to work, i suppose. ho-hum...
toodlepip

rosmerta · 29/01/2008 14:35

stepford, we get sent a questionnaire from our hv's to fill in & then they're meant to 'follow up', not heard from them yet

eleusis · 29/01/2008 14:38

Hi everyone. Sorry, can't possibly catch up.

But, if anyone sees COV around, could you point her over here to confirm her attendance for Friday night?

And anyone else who fancies some nice food on Friday can come too (of course!!).

Sorry, work is way too busy to even contemplate catching up on this thread. Hope everyone is well.

stepfordwife · 29/01/2008 14:39

thanks, ros.
we've obviously slipped the net
not worried, tbh, think you can tell yourself how your child is developing, eh?
(what sort of things did she have to "do," sfx?)
quite fancy the free crayons, tho....

sfxmum · 29/01/2008 14:44

we did not get a questionnaire just a letter invite so I called them up, was told if needed just to give them a call.
it was the first time since 6m so I thought I would go, she was measured and weighed sat at a table with puzzles & books bit of a chat that's all.
dd walked in and said 'hello I am minisfx and this is my friend mummy' as she is keen to do now, she was a bit of a show off telling the HV the very limited Portuguese she knew

stepfordwife · 29/01/2008 14:46

my dd would show off the limited english she knows

eleusis · 29/01/2008 14:50

oh oh, the 2 1/2 year check. Is that a joke or what? DS had it a few months ago. She ticked the box on things he clearly did not do, which I thought made a mockery of the whole thing. Then she measured him (whilst he was trying to look up at the bar coming down on his head) and gave him something like a 8th percentile. I was none to please with this. Measured him myself at home and he is sopt on 45th percentile. Idiot!! She even sat there and said his weight is average but he's short so he's a bit wide. All the while I'm looking at my boy who is so not fat at all... it was a complete waste of time.

I have yet to meet a health visitor who can tell me something I don't already know.

sfxmum · 29/01/2008 14:51

I was amused with the questions about behaviour and nutrition
dd fibbed about how much she loved vegetables and I told her behaviour wise she often drives me mad HV said so all normal then? yep all age appropriate behaviour.

she did go on about doing booster for MMR asap because there was an huge rise in measles around Kingston recentely

sfxmum · 29/01/2008 15:09

every time I see that thread Bonkers anonymous I think it is about admitting to madness instead of procreating activities which actually may well be

slng · 29/01/2008 15:21

Health visitors? What's that?

When DS1 didn't walk at 18 months we saw the HV who passed us on to a nursery nurse (what's THAT?) who wanted to know what he ate and how he slept! Didn't even ask DS1 to stand or crawl - all the time he was sitting on my lap! I was so annoyed. Then they tried to measure his height and weight and he completely refuse to cooperate and I bloody-mindedly just sat there and watched and laughed at them. The next day they phoned up to say they hoped that was helpful! I've had enough of these muppets. I'm sure there are good ones out there but I haven't met one. Rant over!

fitfox · 29/01/2008 15:35

Health Visitor - what are they?

sfxmum · 29/01/2008 15:44

oh yes I know I got lucky with mine generally speaking but had selective hearing regarding mixed feeding controlled crying etc.

now midwives well I think I got my antenatal care done by a bunch of trolls on their bad days

Kewcumber · 29/01/2008 15:44

I got one visit from HV - when they got sent a letter from the paediatrician - I think they hadn't realised DS existed before that , I may go for a 2.5 yr assessment just because of his premmie-ness but generally have enough offialdom with 6 weekly sw visits and 3 monthly reviews with the manager

Steppie - the lovely MrsQCsnr has gherkin (thank god - board meeting to prepare for) and apparently he hasn;t been sick today. I think it is a bug as I think he is getting stomach cramps - intermittant crying hard which eases off quite quickly but often after having water or a bite of something to eat. Hopefully its already blowing over.

My ma took him to playgroups in Sheen £2 for 1.5 hrs including juice, tea, fruit sticks and biscuits she liked it - not sure what days they do though.

Kewcumber · 29/01/2008 15:45

actually the HV who came was very nice and quite sensible. At least better than the barking mad one who rang me two weeks later insisting I needed a visit and a red book (both of which I'd had obviously)

eleusis · 29/01/2008 16:01

Kew, DS had some runny stinky nappies over the weekend resulting in quite a sore bum. Hope your DS does not have the same. He woke up one morning crying (which he never does) and when I went in he said "Mummy, bum hurt". Poor guy had one big baboon arse. MrsR said her DS had similar so must be something going round.

stepfordwife · 29/01/2008 16:14

kew, what would we do without our mums, eh?
glad he's the mend.
dd is missing him this week!

ele..ouch! poor little thing

dh working from home today, too, well arguing with ds1 over doing his homework at mo..
"God, dad, you're getting even scarier than mum"
pah!
be assurred, my friends. he'll never be as scary as me...
