How exciting to be starting thread

Yay, thanks Sfx, am already looking forward to banana bread, mmmm!

In Sweden they had Noise Police (everything is so formally governed over there) but what a great idea, they used to go and put a stop the noise polluters, no messing.

QC - I've got a pair of brand new shoes (size 5, I think) for your DS, if you are interested.

slng · 27/02/2008 14:18

So no bilingual chinese school here and have doubts over weekend school - you might ask what it is really I want ... Ho hum.

I want Bob-the-builder in Chinese! How can anyone (or little boys specifically in my experience) fail to speak English when there's Bob the builder.

Kewcumber · 27/02/2008 14:39

"you might ask what it is really I want ..." umm, err, well yes actually that would be a good starting point.

Size 5 would fit him nicely Sushi - i loooove you (shoes are so expensive!). BTW - do you know that your DH is stalking me?

SushiMummy · 27/02/2008 14:48

slng - do you have access to Chinese TV networks? I have this thing to download Japanese TV programmes so DS watches Japanese kids programmes every day. (none of the cbeebies rubbish!)

QC - I know! I have spotted you two having rendezvous in the station.[jealous wife emoticon]

SJ99 · 27/02/2008 15:12

Sfx - try this I used to use the number codes when typing Swedish, it works!

Foxie - LOL 'pay or pray', must've been torture waiting the 2wks to find out if DS had a place at your chosen school. Also I have Baby Whisperer but is the general version not sleep book but you're welcome to borrow it, can try and drop it by next wk

QC & PC - DS going to art class on Sat so you'll see him there

DS extremely tantrummy today, don't know why, not like him . Lunch was a disaster, pretty much non-stop tantrums and he couldn't eat anyway as the mum had used coconut milk even though she knew of his allergies, cue another tantrum. Will have a quiet afternoon and see if his mood improves, please hope it's not another tooth...

Kewcumber · 27/02/2008 15:17

DS has been very very tantrummy when he's tired recently - was inconsolable yesterday when he wasn't allowed to continue (we had already done about 15 mins) washing up the dirty dishes . Injured feelings were soothed by milk and Thomas book though.

Kewcumber · 27/02/2008 15:18

you must tell me what his allergies are in case I ever cook for him...

There's a recipe in the BBC cookery magazinre (my mums I hasten to add) for egg and wheat free choc cake - it looks quite nice.

SJ99 · 27/02/2008 15:43

Thanks QC, would love the recipe. Thomas to the rescue eh? I'm guessing DS is overtired & maybe be a bit disorientated after being away last week & busy wkend & no nap yesterday, it catches up on them. I was quite upset at seeing how badly he reacted to everything while we were at my friends. Obviously all toddlers have their moments but he has never been quite so out of sorts, oh well.

Doesn't help that I have PMS, that's depressing enough on it's own, looking at house prices doesn't help though ...

Anyway will try and have a more fun afternoon

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 27/02/2008 15:50

looking at houses around here can be miserable... it doesn't even seem to matter how much money you have to spend you just get to look at more expensive piles of garbage.

Paddlechick666 · 27/02/2008 16:14

kew, we're booked onto ArtyTots on Saturday.

Apparently there;s some mugs to be painted !!!

SJ99 · 27/02/2008 16:20

Excitement!!! Better book a place too

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 27/02/2008 16:24

my mum said my next door neighbours took their kids 2 and 5 to one of those ceramic pottery plces for kids. Paid their £12 for the afternoon (or whatever it was) and were then charged £50 at the end for the mug and plate ON TOP . It was neighbours DH, neighbour says she would have said "no thnks" and left wihtout them!

I had no idea those places were so expensive.

How much are the mugs [suspicious emoticon] thought it was mothers day cards...

sfxmum · 27/02/2008 16:29

SJ thanks for link will have to check on the PC my laptop does not run on windows and it is refusing to open it.
sorry about the tantrums

dd has been a bit difficult but as I am considerably low it is not surprising just glad I have built some coping mechanisms

slng have you come across mantra lingua?

I get loads from them

slng · 27/02/2008 16:33

sushi - don't have chinese TV apart from the free one. Last time I look there wasn't anything very nice, but maybe time to try again. I can't even find DVDs. Might try getting VCDs in Malaysia. The thing is, I think English children programs are quite good ... Anyway must make an effort - kids probably sick of hearing mandarin spoken only by me.

slng · 27/02/2008 16:34

Come to think of it - Mellow, do you know anything about chinese TV and children's program?

slng · 27/02/2008 16:38

sfx - thanks for link. Had a quick look and they look like bilingual books. I prefer just one language ... Am I too fussy!? I also get a rotating stock of chinese children's books from charing cross library, but I think it's hard to compete with bob-the-builder and thomas.

Paddlechick666 · 27/02/2008 16:44

kew, yeah i paid a fortune xmas before last for 2 mugs with dd's footprints on them.

well worth it tho, i treasure mine.

no prices mentioned, she just said she'd got some mugs the kids could paint if they wished to.

no pressure!

sfxmum · 27/02/2008 16:51

slng dh has a friend who is chinese and works for some sort of library service providing all sorts of books for schools, mostly in minority languages I can ask him to send her an email see if he knows anything

that ceramics swindle seems to be like those professional photos business

sfxmum · 27/02/2008 16:52

I have some books in portuguee only of books that dd likes, some Julia Donaldson etc.

slng · 27/02/2008 17:00

sfx - if dh could ask that would be nice. I'm after DVD of children's programs and story books (in that order of priorty because I can get story books but I can't seem to find TV stuff.) I saw lots of factual stuff but I want stories ...

Oh no soup boiling over!

Kewcumber · 27/02/2008 17:01

have you tried Grant & cutler for childrems book - they have welsh ones!

stepfordwife · 27/02/2008 17:05

hello everyone

how you all diddling?

I think i have a parenting gene missing because i just can't get worked up about schools. just think:'well, I did all right...."
hardly the attitude maybe.

foxie pay or pray . are you enjoying your night away? bliss..saw your brood heading up the road this morning (with dh i hasten to add..)

can i join in the barney-bashing? it's the kids that get me..it's freaky when children are acting at being, er, children, iyswim.

hmmm, toying with idea of getting dd to make me a mug at artplace. ...do they do good coffee?

have managed to do my work today while out and about in the sunshine on the mobile. result!

oh god, better think of something to make for dinner.
don't think i'll ever come to terms with them having to be fed three times a day, and here's, the killer, EVERY DAY...
toodlepip

slng · 27/02/2008 17:11

Kew - tried grant and cutler. They have the teaching stuff and harry potter but not much in between.

Steppie - tell me it's OK to not worry about school. I only worry that they'll learn bad behaviour, because obviously my behaviour is exemplary and it can only go downhill when they spend more time with other people!

I'm only recently coming to terms that I'm feeding 4 people rather than 2 and a bit. DS1 kept saying "next time cook more"...

stepfordwife · 27/02/2008 17:11

oh..and i didn't feel the earth move last night

stepfordwife · 27/02/2008 17:14

sing..it's OK not to worry about school..

you're lucky, matey, i dream to hear;next time cook more" from my lot.
far more likely to hear;'next time get daddy to cook."
sometimes i get a patronising;'you're getting a bit better.."
