New thread as the other one is not going to last long.

OP posts:
ComeOVeneer · 08/01/2008 21:24

Sorry ds's sleep is up the spout atm kew. Hope you get it sorted soon. DS had a serious bout of diarrhoea (sp) just before bedtime, nand his best friend is off nursery with a D+Vbug so I am fully expecting to have to deal with a sick little boy tonight. Typically when dh is away. Just hope he (dh) has escaped it so he can have his proceedure tomorrow.

fitfox · 09/01/2008 09:38

SFX did you go running? What do you reward yourself with then? (I like the sound of the reward, if not the run)

CoV let us know how it goes today with your DH [hugs]

sfxmum · 09/01/2008 09:43

actually I went to bed at 1am because I wanted to finish my book, by which time dh was snoring full blast thus hindering my chances of getting to sleep, the dd woke me up at 4am because she wanted the potty at which time I switched off the alarm are those enough excuses?

BUT tomorrow I will

good morning all

fitfox · 09/01/2008 10:03

SFX - yeah, those excuses will do LOL!!

I am interviewing for lodgers atm. I have:

  • Chinese proff/studying couple (I said I didn't want a couple)
  • 2 women who work long hours and can bring an extra bed, but speak no English
  • A lone parent with a 7 yr old DS, who I didn't bond with
  • A male lecturer (said I wanted females)
  • A female student (said I wanted professionals only)

Strangely, all the female professionals have been either realy unreliable (not turning up for viewings) or they have turned up but been very demanding (asking for all sorts of extras/rent reductions/want to change all the furniture)

stepfordwife · 09/01/2008 10:47

morning all

hope you're all diddling well

COV - hope your dh's biopsy goes OK. sending positive thoughts..

Kew - oh, god, did she scratch him?
i'm so sorry

think you're right about ds getting 'used" to you being around more. sure he'll (and my banshee) will settle down again soon. i'm finding it hard enough to get back into the 'routine', never mind them!

Ros..fine to email your CV over. i'm no great CV expert, btw, but maybe could tweak a bit and big you up if needs be.

Foxie..the two women sound a good bet - as it sounds like they'll never be in!
who didn't you bond with - the lone parent or her son??

talking of unreliable women, all three i was meant to talk to this morning have gone AWOL. so frustrating when you've got such a limited child-free time to crack (or not) on. ho-hum..
toodlepip

stepfordwife · 09/01/2008 11:00

running?
sfx, remind me...
one foot in front of the other?
bit like walking but bit faster??
yes, think i remember....

sfxmum · 09/01/2008 11:07

I don't really run I shuffle along at a pace slightly above brisk walking but it makes me feel better, when I manage to go out that is

I don't don't where the me, who used to go to the gym at least 4X a week, can be found these days

answers in a postcard (can you tell I am avoiding housework?)

btw reading The Lay of the Land next and can't wait to start, bookmark in place first lines glimpsed

ComeOVeneer · 09/01/2008 11:08

Morning all. Well dh has just phoned. Proceedure is over, he is a bit sore in his neck where they "went in", and is spaced out on valium. He has to be moniotred for 5 hours before he can leave the hospital. He is staying at his parents' tonight then I will go and pick him up tomorrow. Fingers crossed the results don't show anything sinister.

Had a terrible night with ds (why does it always happen when dh is away?) D+V kept him (and me) up until 4am. He now seems right as rain and very annoyed he can't go to nursery today. I on the other hand need matchsticks to keep my eyes open.

rosmerta · 09/01/2008 12:38

hi all,

COV - glad the procedure's over with, fingers crossed its good results.

Sfx - I honestly think having the intention to do something counts . I am intending to go swimming tonight but we'll see.

I got a phone call from the job I applied for, need to call her back tonight to have a chat about it . Guess my CV was ok after all, thanks to MN!

fitfox · 09/01/2008 13:56

Oooh that's exciting Ros - see how fabby you are!!

SFX - I used to do the gym when I was young too LOL!!! - in the days when I didn't really need to

Steppy - sorry to hear your interviewees went AWOL, how annoying when you are all psyched up to talk to them too?

I think the two women sound good too.

DH wants the Chinese couple (I liked them but they want us to buy extra furniture, so we need to just weight up the cost of that/plus the fact there would be two people etc etc and the woman seemed quite high maintenance)

The lone parent was a dissappointment as I had get quite excited about living with another mum (visulaises a commune, where the Mum's happily co-exist, sharing cooking etc [hippy emoticon]). In reality she was a bit of a chavster and came across as slightly "thick" (didn't meet the son). They would be OK but it could get complicated (sharing toys/bedtime routines may be different etc etc)

The academic guy sounds good as he also works long hours ...... we'll see.....

gotta go, shirking from home today...

slng · 09/01/2008 14:12

Fitfox - where does the lecturer lecture? Speaking as a lecturer myself a lecturer has no life and works all the time so might be a good housepest as long as not too unhygenic (which I am not obviously).

Am hunting for cleaner ...

stepfordwife · 09/01/2008 14:15

foxie..often par for the course..

anyhow, i've caught up on phone calls to friends, lurked on MN, printed out a delia smith recipe for idiot-proof white sauce..generally faffed about and even done a bit of work...

now, of course, i'm vaguely getting into the work zone and all resentful got to pick brood up in 45 mins

good luck with the canadian academic..he sounds promising..

ros..well done. what's the job?

sfx...i used to go to the gym 4 times a week, too
contemplating buying a - deep breath - fitness DVD..
does anyone else have one/can reccommend a good one?
confess now....i won't hold it against you
toodlepip

Paddlechick666 · 09/01/2008 14:22

lol @ housepest!

foxie, hope the perfect lodger presents themselves soon.

steppie, no dvd recommendations but i do have a bouncer like foxie's for sale. they're brilliant and the kids love 'em! now i am in a 2nd floor flat i don't think i can really use it anymore (intimating i used it heaps previousl when i never did!).

also i have a graco autobaby car seat & base and the sooper-dooper travel cot for sale if anyone knows of anyone who's wanting stuff.

my first proper day working from home (last one DSD was here doing "jobs") and i am loving it!

the sun drenches my bedroom in the afternoon, it's lovely in there. not that i'm in there of course, i'm working very hard in teh lounge

ComeOVeneer · 09/01/2008 14:29

DH just phoned to say they are keeping him in overnight as his blood pressure has been unstable since the op this morning. Hopefully it isn't anything serious but they want to keep an eye on him. Guess it will be a sleepless night for me tonight fretting over it. Could do with a good nights sleep after ds being ill last night.

sfxmum · 09/01/2008 14:32

Hi slg so what do you lecture on? nosy emoticon, feel free to ignore

steppie I have an Elle Mcpherson one which is hilarious with her pouting etc but it is with Karen Voight who is great at proper exercise, it is easy but well rounded with weights etc.
Otherwise I just have Pilates stuff

and btw you need Carrs sauce flour for pain free white sauce imo

Ros well done great boost

now you lot shirking from home go back to work

dh is complaining they everyone at work seems to have the plague.

have been to the park with dd lots of muddy fun now to do housework

sfxmum · 09/01/2008 14:34

oh COV sorry to hear maybe it is just a side effect and it will all go back to normal soon, fingers crossed

Paddlechick666 · 09/01/2008 14:34

bit of plain cornflour and hey presto!

even easier and even more fool proof is those jars of bechamel sauce that Dolmio do - right next to the spag bol sauce on the shelf at teh supermarket.

Kewcumber · 09/01/2008 14:40

sorry DH's procedure isn't going as smoothly as you hoped. Will keep fingers crossed for you.

Agree steppie - you need sauce flour to make life a little easier. (Ignore paddles cheat tip ) - are you trying to make white sauce or cheese sauce? Can it wait until Sunday pm? You could come over for a cooking lesson!

Kewcumber · 09/01/2008 14:44

had first physio for my dodgy ankles today - apparantly there's no magic wand thingy they can apply and will require me to do boring exercises three times a day for at least 8 weeks to see any improvement at all

slng · 09/01/2008 14:48

"Housepest" courtesy of Kinky Friedman. Anyone read him? I've got heaps of his books.

Steppie - Can testify that Delia's foolproof white sauce is indeed foolproof. Unfortunately unnatural DC don't like white sauce.

SFX - pretend to lecture in ... maths ... sometimes. Most of the time just lecture DC!

SushiMummy · 09/01/2008 15:19

Foxie - would this be of interest?

CoV - fingers crossed for your DH. Hope your DS gets better soon.

Ros - well done!

Hello all!

Paddlechick666 · 09/01/2008 15:33

well spotted sushi!

SJ99 · 09/01/2008 15:47

mmm could be answer to Foxie's dilemma

Cov - sorry to hear DH kept further and DS had terrible night, hope all gets better

Ros - great news about job, fingers crossed for you.

I rang 3 more agencies today, one said they couldn't help, another said in his past 7yrs he's only placed 3 PT positions as they hardly ever come available for the type of work I'm looking for , the final one asked me to send cv and they would see what they could do, am not holding my breath

All in one method for white sauce, easy peasy, esp with sauce flour takes 5mins - chuck all stuff in pan and whisk til smooth, good luck Steppie!

sfxmum · 09/01/2008 15:56

am making fish pie tonight so be making white sauce SJ style blessed sauce flour, a decent roux is all good and fine but no time

slng Maths yes we are lacking inspiring maths/science people I can remember really good teachers and some so utterly boring even with the most interesting subjects

KC makes you long for those Startrek twiglydees that make you better in a second go on do the exercises you will feel better in no time

Kewcumber · 09/01/2008 16:38
