Apparently they are sick of going to York. TBF i take them every year. Three girls aged 11, 13 and 14. I've already booked it so it's not negociable but, can anyone advise me of the great things to do there?

www.ambiente-tapas.co.uk on the Calls. Lovely Tapas and a great value lunch menu.

I was going to suggest a river cruise from Leeds Dock but don't think they run any more.

As prima says, head back into town along the waterfront, through brewery wharf. Cross the modern bridge there and you will be in the right bit of Leeds for the corn exchange, just off the calls. Plenty of independent shops there - a change from trinity.

LePetitPont · 31/07/2014 09:49

Ps there is a pizza express just behind the corn exchange.

I used to live behind the Crown Plaza. It's a 5/10 minute walk in to town. The pool is decent too so they will like it. You turn right out of the hotel and walk straight down the main road and you end up at the train station.

Don't go to Browns for afternoon tea, it's bloody awful! Go to Just Grand as pp mentioned. It's absolutely amazing. I didn't find it pricey at all. The girls will love it. There's also a few good shops in Thorntons arcade where the tea room is which sell handmade crafty stuff.

Look online at the Corn Exchange as I know they sometimes do kids activities through the holidays.

Food wise Trinity Kitchen is great. Also Reds True BBQ next to the Corn Exchange is the best place EVER. Really good slow cooked bbq food. It's making me hungry just thinking about it Grin

Everyman cinema is good but pricey. Hyde Park Picture House is a really lovely old cinema and easy to get to.

Silly question, but can you eat at the Everyman Pizzeria without going to the cinema?

Second the recs for Trinity Kitchen (pop up food trucks selling really great quality takeaway food - there's an eating area and some 'fixed' restaurants too.

And YY to Reds, I've only been once but have failed to get a table on all the other times I've tried - book or go at a quiet time.

FelixFelix · 31/07/2014 10:16

Yes you can eat at the Pizzeria without going to the cinema Smile

You can't book at Reds but you can usually get a table through the day in the week. I really want a peanut butter milkshake now Shock

Mrs Athas is a really nice (and teenage DD approved!) coffee shop behind House of Fraser that do lovely cakes and great coffee, if you need a caffeine fix!

The market is good if they're crafty, you can wander round all of the fabric and ribbon stalls letting your imagination run.

I don't know if they're dancers (my DDs are, so we're always on the ballet trail..) but there's a coffee shop inside Northern Ballet's building, behind the Playhouse, which is open to the public but you get to watch the professionals and the students drifting about elegantly! The Wardrobe is a lovely restaurant/bar/coffee shop which does great food and coffee (and cocktails!) and is fine with teens coming in as long as it's not too late!

Someone mentioned Tropical World above, but it really is brilliant and you can book tickets online now tropicalworld.leeds.gov.uk/Pages/default.aspx

There are some great suggestions already, have a look at some of the local theatres too, we have The Grand, The Yorkshire Playhouse, The Carriages Works & City Varieties which all have great events going on. Also may be worth seeing what is on at Leeds Arena too while you are up too, it is well worth a visit.

If you have some good weather while you are up, Roundhay Park, Temple Newsam, Kirkstall Abbey and Stockeld Park are great aswell are Harewood House, Golden Acre Park & Lotherton Hall.

If you feel like some culture Yorkshire Sculpture is great if you are travelling a little further afield but Leeds also has some great city centre museums.
