Apparently they are sick of going to York. TBF i take them every year. Three girls aged 11, 13 and 14. I've already booked it so it's not negociable but, can anyone advise me of the great things to do there?

YSP from Leeds is about half an hour by car

Hulababy · 25/07/2014 18:28

Ah 0 just seen don't drive

Lighthousekeeping · 25/07/2014 18:29

Lighthouse

You can get to the sculpture park by train to Wakefield west gate, walk to the bus station then get the bus to Barnsley, it goes via the sculpture park

Or get a taxi from Wakefield train station, it's around £10-12 in a taxi so depends on your budget

Queenofknickers · 25/07/2014 18:30

Wakefield is nearer for YSP and there's a bus - however Wakefield is a bit grim....

ApocalypseNowt · 25/07/2014 18:31

If you fancy Tropical World get the number 12 from town and it stops just before it (get off at the park gates).

YSP

BY TRAIN
Wakefield Westgate is the nearest main line station, around seven miles from YSP. A taxi from the station costs approximately £10.

BY BUS
Buses run between Wakefield Bus Station and Barnsley Interchange via West Bretton. Buses stop and depart directly outside the YSP Centre. The current provider is Tates Travel, number 96.

Trains from Leeds to Wakefield Westgate take about 15 minutes

Sculpture park is easy. Train from Leeds to either Wakefield or Barnsley. No 96 from both takes you into the park. It is £4.60 for a day ticket on the bus. Or you can get a train ticket to Wakefield with the plus bus option for an extra couple of pounds.

BIWI · 25/07/2014 18:35

City centre art gallery is good as well I think (it's years since I lived in Leeds though, so this might be unreliable!)

glenthebattleostrich · 25/07/2014 18:35

I think the bus is just after the hour from Wakefield and about half past from sculpture park to go back. The bus stop is very easy to find too.

Also worth a visit in Wakefield is the Hepworth gallery. That's really close to the station.

Lighthousekeeping · 25/07/2014 18:36

Thanks. I've bed wanting to go since it opened.

I'd recommend a day window shopping at Meadowhall in Sheffield by train. 9th ring of hell for you but may appease your dds

BIWI · 25/07/2014 18:38

Leeds art gallery and info about the Yorkshire Sculpture Triangle

alwayssleepy · 25/07/2014 18:38

Leeds now has the Trinity shopping centre, which is rather nice and has nice places to eat, the Mexican place at the top is yummy and Trinity Kitchen is a street food place which is great fun. Great shopping and a lovely but expensive Everyman cinema.

There is a fake beach in Leeds in summer at millennium square, which can be nice on a hot day.

Xscape is great, easy to get to by train, you can ski, surf, play golf with a giant trex, climb and eat there.

What sorta stuff do they like? Theatre? Art galleries? Gardens? Shopping? Sports? Eating out?

LisaMed · 25/07/2014 18:39

I thought Harry Ramsdens at Guiseley had shut.

Queenofknickers · 25/07/2014 18:39

Not very stealthy boast alert but I was at the opening of the YSP in my pushchair......

LisaMed · 25/07/2014 18:40

If you like charity shops go to Headingley - there are eleventy zillion there!

ApocalypseNowt · 25/07/2014 18:46

Ooooh get you Queenofknickers! Half a crown to talk to you is it? Grin

Aliceinvodkaland · 25/07/2014 18:47

you'll have to do more than fuckin sell it to them!! Grin Leeds !!

Aliceinvodkaland · 25/07/2014 18:48

ffs!!

BIWI · 25/07/2014 18:54

What's wrong with Leeds, Alice, that merits that kind of response? Hmm

The OP has made it quite clear why she has chosen it as a place to go.

Lighthousekeeping not sure if it's your thing, but Shrek is on at the Grand Theatre

WYorksLass · 25/07/2014 19:06

Harry Ramsdens at Guiseley is now the Wetherby Whaler.
It's very nice but I wouldn't bother going there specially.

I love Roundhay park and tropical world.

Aliceinvodkaland · 25/07/2014 19:09
