ooh the excitement of starting a new thread Grin

OP posts:
sfxmum · 12/10/2011 23:31

KewC will be giving an image of a very racy life to prospective buyers, what would they think of the neighbourhood Shock

UptoapointLordCopper · 13/10/2011 11:50

Kew - good luck with painter. We actually patched up a wall and painted over ourselves once - but luckily colour was standard rented-accommodation-magnolia.

"Nollocks" is a good word. Quite insulting, a cross between knob and bollocks. Grin

No wagamama cookbook. Just the standard flour-egg-breadcrumbs baked in oven. And of course the funny bowl-shaped rice. Grin And everyone was happy.

Just been to assembly. Now must catch up with work.

UptoapointLordCopper · 13/10/2011 13:09

They've phoned four more times. [hangry] [hangry] A curse upon their phone lines.

Kewcumber · 13/10/2011 16:52

oorah - builder friiend has rearranged his schedule and will come tomorrow. there's about three days work and one day to do it in - so it might be a bit sketchy! But better than nothing.

Had the details for my house sent through. My what a fine house - someone will snatch it up....

FlubbaBubba · 13/10/2011 17:43

Where are you moving to kew? Will you have to change your name?

Kewcumber · 13/10/2011 19:11

Well hopefuly still in kew as Mortlakecumber doesn't have the same ring to it... though mortlake is a possibility. Am in the enviable position that I can downsize and pay off my mortgage.

sfxmum · 13/10/2011 19:47

KewC glat to hear you got it sorted, more or less
btw are you fully elucidated on the new fangled techniques to turn our children literate?

I have been on my weekly visit to my aunt, sadly she seemed a tad more confused today, maybe not a good day, she was worried about something in particular, that does not help, otherwise quite enjoyable that mix of past and present convos.
Since then baking for tomorrow's cake sale, going heavy on the chocolate as last week that all went in about 2 minutes flat, they are scary those children brandishing coins

sfxmum · 13/10/2011 19:48

copper channel your rage Grin dh bothers to shout I just put the phone down

UptoapointLordCopper · 13/10/2011 20:33

We are lucky not to have to deal with the phonics business. Even calling letters by their phonic sounds rather than the letter names irritate the hell out of me. And these days I seem to have only one nerve left and everyone is stepping on it ...

sfx - where should I channel the rage to? Grin

UptoapointLordCopper · 13/10/2011 21:59

I've ordered some malt to try to make a malt loaf. Haven't baked for ages... Tempted to get new book.

sfxmum · 13/10/2011 22:11

copper wherever it suits, do try to be constructive Grin

I need an early night, not looking at question time likely to annoy me

Kewcumber · 13/10/2011 23:18

I'm losing the will to live. ON the Catholic secondary thread someone has argued that an exclusively catholic secondary school is required to promte inclusivity Confused

Truly I'm not often totally stumped but.... well... words fail me.

"We want one so we're trying to get one" is an argument I can understand, it is clear and it makes sense and it seems to be working on the council. Once they stray from that argument, it all gets a bit psychadelic!

UptoapointLordCopper · 14/10/2011 08:25

Good morning!

Kew - Confused Exclusivity to promote inclusivity?? Like "We are cutting services to in order to have a better service"? I think we are on the wrong planet. Maybe alien abduction is real after all.

Now must resume mad rush.

sfxmum · 14/10/2011 10:48

hello, still baking should be running oh dear

In the land of the duh! The Care Commission 'new' finds on elderly care in hospitals, honestly these problems have been there for a very long time, whenever a person from any of the care homes I used to manage got sock and was admitted to hospital I used to make sure there was a staff member present at least around meal times, and often much longer than that, did I get any thanks for that? did I heck, was chastised for squandering money instead of saving it on staffing with a client down. but I need to sleep at night

I knew of too many who went in and never came out, some young but obviously with learning disabilities and less able to advocate for themselves

I could also tell you where it all started and how to improve it but I will not bore you, just a little clue, what the government is hinting at will not work

feel better now, sort of

UptoapointLordCopper · 14/10/2011 14:04

Bacon sandwich. Belated lunch.

sfx - are you saying the big society will not make all this problem go away? When people have a stake in these services they will automatically become experts, you know. Especially if they are not paid. Because money clouds clear vision and should only be given to those who can handle it. And because we are all in this together. Hmm

tillyfernackerpants · 14/10/2011 16:18

Before you know it, they'll be announcing hospitals, prisons & schools to be run by volunteers as part of the big society Hmm

Anyway, forget about the education threads, read the missing toaster one instead, much more amusing!

sfxmum · 14/10/2011 16:48

Tilly I have only ever seen it about and wondered if it was still missing and really what happened to it, but never opened the thread

cake sale huge success I could have baked more and it would have gone, actually only stopped because I run out of self raising flour
all home baked stuff pounced on, it was all a blur

Have any of you sci fi fans been watching The Fades on 3? I am really getting into it.

must think of easy dinner

tillyfernackerpants · 14/10/2011 17:16

Its fate was discovered, much funnier reading up until that point!

We did tape The Fades to watch, but the 1st episode somehow got deleted Confused so haven't been able to see it. But a friend of mine is working on it so has promised to get me the dvds!

sfxmum · 14/10/2011 17:23

I only ever watch it on iplayer so rare to watch live telly these days

Kewcumber · 14/10/2011 18:24

yes bake sale was a success = chocolate cake and carrot cake a winner!

Painter has been - did a great job but I still have way too much gussying up before tomorrow as well as keeping DS occupied... must get off MN and work.

UptoapointLordCopper · 14/10/2011 20:47

Good evening!

Tilly - saw some of the toaster thread, up to the point where mystery was solved. Is it funny after that?

Didn't watch the Fades. Looks far too scary.

Park this afternoon and friend's house. Very nice.

Now for more Wine.

tillyfernackerpants · 14/10/2011 21:02

Copper, it wasn't as funny tbh, I thought the answer was a bit of an anti-climax!

Kora · 14/10/2011 21:36

Bake sales! Wine! All sound lovely, but now lamenting fact we have neither in the house Envy. Might have to check our dusty "spirits and dodgy tourist-buy liqueurs" cupboard again. Need it though to celebrate end of week - particularly as I had to go to a "breakfast seminar" this morning, who thinks of this stuff?

Kew - glad painter did a good job - best of luck with viewings tomorrow. (I'm setting up a mini writing corner at home after the literacy talk, now I know their system for letters - not sure whether this is good or whether I'm overdoing it! I'll just see if DD1 fancies it; she had already started letters at nursery and loves drawing and making cards, so might as well see...)

Sfx - if you ever need tasting assistance, I'm happy to help Grin I did watch the bake-off masterclass this week and was inspired. Love way Mary Berry refused to get sidelined by shouty man. If only I could be that poised when I'm old (or ever?).

Tilly - Smashing Pumpkins line-up is completely different from original (except Billy of course) so we can console ourselves not missing much. Must keep a look out for other gigs...

Have a great weekend everyone! [hsmile]

sfxmum · 14/10/2011 22:32

Kora oh ffs breakfast seminars! did they at least serve good coffee?

kewC good luck for tomorrow house and Wales, dd thinks herself in kinship with Wales and has dusted off the Welsh flag she bought on holiday to wave it about tomorrow Hmm she also has a Portuguese and a French one which she shall hide on this occasion.

dh brough chocolate and wine, having some as can't run over the weekend, dh working all of it, I am doomed

UptoapointLordCopper · 15/10/2011 21:31

Hello!

Run out of Wine!! Shock

Just did citizenship test linked from another thread. Failed miserably. Shock at the type of questions asked.
