ooh the excitement of starting a new thread Grin

OP posts:
sfxmum · 04/10/2011 10:36

copper have you seen the thread in AIBU about taking children to restaurants? so funny and also kind of sad in parts, don't get it why it is such a problem but anyhow

hope your back feels better, and yes I think you need to try them on first

UptoapointLordCopper · 04/10/2011 11:04

sfx - saw a bit of the thread but gave up. People either too scared or too smug. I have friends who took their child (about 1yo at the time) to restaurants in the evening with friends. Bet their friends thoroughly enjoyed the meals with grizzly 1yo moaning in background. Grin But it is so important for children to spend time with their parents you know darling. Also saw the thread on how other parents are shit at teaching their kids to share. That one's quite funny (said child allowed to "borrow" other kids' toys hahaha) and sad too but I think we have better discussion on here about sharing. Smile

UptoapointLordCopper · 04/10/2011 12:13

Bought new back pack. Smile Now no one will be able to tell weather I'm going to work or camping.

FlubbaBubba · 04/10/2011 13:11

Wow Copper! How many laptops are you planning on taking to work?! :o

Thinking of volunteering my rather dodgy facepainting skills at a craft table in Teddington towards end of November. How much do you think is reasonable to ask? (Baring in mind that I have decent materials, it's just the skill I lack! Confused :)

tillyfernackerpants · 04/10/2011 13:28

Flubba, looks a lovely place, glad you had a good time. I'd pay up to £3 for face painting

Vbus, I've sent you an email, hope the building stuff is resolved

I found out last night that the boy I used to babysit for died last weekend Sad. I don't know if you remember me posting, he had brain tumours and wasn't expected to make it to Christmas. He had his 19th birthday, all his friends came round and afterwards he made the brave decision to stop taking his medication Sad

FlubbaBubba · 04/10/2011 13:35

OMG tilly that's awful. Poor, poor family.

sfxmum · 04/10/2011 13:49

tilly I am so sorry what a terrible loss I am glad he got to make a decision about how to end it.

flubba Kew Gardens does £4 or 2 for £7 and they are very good, of course then it depends if it is for charity, when people can be more willing to indulge, my unsolicited advise would be to stick to a few practised designs with mild variations and plenty of glitter Grin
with us butterflies flower faeries and assorted super heroes are a hit

copper that looks huge you could probably smuggle a child in it next time he gets banned from school

on which theme dd told me yesterday morning that she would be spending break at the quiet gardens pondering a few things and doing something or other which she thought it was probably not allowed and that at worst she might get expelled Shock Hmm I did not probe too deeply as plausible denyability might be an asset
I asked after school she said It is ok mummy I did not get expelled

honestly can't make up stuff like that

sfxmum · 04/10/2011 13:50

and I missed all the punctuation, aren't modern!

FlubbaBubba · 04/10/2011 14:00

:o Shock :o at your DD sfx

I was thinking of charging £2 and offering a few that I know I can do half decently - that way if things start looking dodgy, I'll be able to drop the price down to just £1 and say "well, you get what you pay for!!" :o :o

stepfordwife · 04/10/2011 14:03

I'm so sorry, tilly.
how dreadfully sad, his poor family.
like sfx said, at least he had some choice about how he wanted to die. but that doesn't distract from how cruel it is to die so young.
I hope his parents are close and can support each other - it's every parent's nightmare to lose a child, isn't it?

UptoapointLordCopper · 04/10/2011 14:29

tilly - Sad Sad Sad

sfx and flubba - bag fits small laptop + a4 folder + lunch box and not much else. There are much much bigger bags there that would fit a small family + pets in...

UptoapointLordCopper · 04/10/2011 14:31

As for face-painting we have no experience. DSs run a mile before they would let anyone paint on their faces. (But they are quite happy to do it to themselves...)

vbus · 04/10/2011 19:32

hello all

Tilly - I remember about the boy, that is really Sad Sad news still. Sorry have not got round to replying yet it has been manic

Fluuba - trip looks/sounds lovely, glad you all enjoyed it. I think they charged £2.50 at school fair and that was with the mums who volunteered doing the painting not trained facepainters

Sfx - you must be so relieved DD didn't get expelled Grin

Copper - cool rucksack, surprised it doesn't hold more

Well we've reached some level of agreement so the builders should be back on site and start work again tomorrow, phew. Just need to resolve problem neighbour is having with her garden, she's convinced builders have caused her damage and has been giving daily grief about it for past week. She now has to prove it and then we can help her

Think I'll watch Bake Off final and have an early night, anyone else watching that?

OP posts:
Kora · 04/10/2011 22:09

Dashing but enough time to say so sorry Tilly, very sad news Sad.

Vbus, glad all resolved with builders and hope neighbour gets a grip - big hug.

Copper - I've been converted to rucksacks. I refuse to become hunchback just because Posh Spice likes shoulder bags and limited range in shops.

Sfx - brilliant. Oh to be young and mischievous in the quiet garden area again.

Flubba - facepainting sounds good plan. I've tried my hand at that, it's actually quite good fun and most children are quite accomodating if it's a bold design! Good luck!

sfxmum · 05/10/2011 00:08

vbus I watched the bake off final, one and only episode I watched, lovely winner
next year we will enter copper and let her argue with the judges Grin at least she can make a Sacher Torte
Hope you relaxed watching it, keep thinking of the big pay off when it is all over.

and btw Mary Berry is lovely

must sleep, brain racing post course lesson with business plan stuff I can hear dh snoring, oh joy

FlubbaBubba · 05/10/2011 06:46

My DD1 is luckily a very willing guinea pig when it comes to my facepainting practice. DH is a less willing (but very lucky! Wink) participant :o :o My best one on him so far is a pirate - together with big bandana across his forehead and black eye patch :o :o

I watched, for the first time, the bake off final last night cos there was sod all else on telly and was Shock at that bloke telling the woman her cakes were 'disgusting' - any need to be SO rude?

UptoapointLordCopper · 05/10/2011 07:43

Good morning!

Did not watch bake-off. No stomach for competitive cookery. Personal theology: cook, eat, and hopefully get someone else to wash up. And what on earth is a Sacher Torte?

We watched The Body Farm. A more unconvincing drama I have not seen for a long time. It's pants.

Trying to teach kids the "do re mi" stuff: do re mi fatso. Apparently. Hmm

sfxmum · 05/10/2011 09:46

Flubba I know the rudeness, no idea who he is and has an annoying accent, seems to work for hotels or something
I watched on iplayer after getting home and while eating late at night

copper torte fairly sure there was a discussion about it here last year

I feel completely drained and sort of dizzy this morning, no idea why, have an interval session in my training plan but not the will to do it, lately runs have been dragging, does not bode well for race
oh well plenty to be getting on with in the meantime

FlubbaBubba · 05/10/2011 09:51

What race are you training for sfx?

sfxmum · 05/10/2011 09:54

Flubba Richmond Park 10K on the 22nd
last time I did 10K was well over a year ago and I was faster then
have been looking at training logs

this one is sponsored by Shock absorber and is women only I am hoping for a discount voucher at least Grin
but realistically I am looking at the very shot time of over 1h and 15mins Sad

vbus · 05/10/2011 10:30

I love Bake off, I watched it last year too, my guilty pleasure! I just love watching them make all that yummy stuff. Don't really care for the bloke although he does know what he's talking about he is a t*sser, he didn't need to be rude. The right person won but I did love the woman who seemed to have lots of disasters last night, she didn't quite pull it off last night

I once got given a Sacher torte as a present, yummy!

sfx- do we need to turn up with banners to spur you on?

Copper - Grin

Flubba - designs sound, good, DS2 would be a willing volunteer if you need any more guinea pigs!

having quiet day at home today, needed some time out and kids are really tired too, we all woke up at 7.45am today Shock

OP posts:
FlubbaBubba · 05/10/2011 10:49

sfx do you do the Park Runs on a Saturday? DH does them whenever he can - good practice also I imagine.

Might well rope your DS in vbus - my DDs aren't too keen on trying out vampire faces etc! :)

DD2 has chucked up absolutely everywhere this morning :( (just after I was bemoaning her whingeing :() - is bouncing around happy as Larry now though, but still tearful at the slightest thing. CBeebies Is My Friend.

sfxmum · 05/10/2011 10:56

Flubba I keep meaning to but Saturday Mornings are tricky for us logistically we shall see, apparently it is always good fun with lots of speedy old folk Hmm

islandhaze · 05/10/2011 11:26

Hello all!!!
Went on the school trip with DD1 yesterday, we saw the Great Tower of London. It was loads of fun, but came back home with a square head. Although all the kids in DDS class were very well behaved and friendly to each other must say. The parents that went were also very nice. Was really fun to see the kids mini acting "The great fire of London" :)

Flubba, the place that you went looks really nice, i saved the link "for laters" :)

Vbus, try see yourself in your new kitchen making some delicious food after its all finished! New Kitchen!!!!! I would absolutely take some hell now, to have brand new, shiny kitchen....:o :o

Sfx, the most important thing is to participate ;) and who cares about the timing? i mean, the enthusiasm you have is so amazing! i wish i had it! just instead of complaining that i have no time/possibility to work out Hmm Hmm

Copper i used to sing the "do re mi" song from "the Sounds of the music" Blush for my DD and my niece. It was fun for them and they picked up quick. I have to do it again sometime...

Tilly very Sad Sorry for the loss...

I have phonics sounds little songs in my head since last night. So annoying :o

vbus · 05/10/2011 11:52

Flubba - hope your dd feels better soon, poor thing. Beebies is life saver Grin DS2 would love the whole vampire thing, DS1 OTOH would run a mile!
Do you do the park runs?

Island - glad you enjoyed trip, it's cute seeing the kids so excited! Sadly it's not the whole building experience that's the problem, builders are extremely nice and incredibly hard working, I'm happy having them around. Problems are more do to with shark boss and us not wanting to be ripped off Hmm

going to make some hummus for lunch now, I'm starving fter marathon ironing session
