York meet-up

So there seems to be some interest on Twitter for a meet-up in York/surrounds. Who's would like to join in? It seems logical that we wait for schools to start again and a morning in the week would suit me best.

10.30ish? Champagne at oscars sounds divine, joosey! But are they equipped for rampaging toddlers? I'm going to a place called grays court by the minster for the first time tomorrow- it's supposed to be well kitted out for kiddies so I'll report back if it's any good.

jooseyfruit · 24/01/2011 19:44

I don't suppose Oscars would be as toddler friendly as Spurriergate, but look forward to your report on Greys Court woofie.

I'll text cazinski, don't think I have deadleys number.

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 24/01/2011 19:59

bit bemused by description of Grays Court as well kitted out for kids - it is big/old/posh and very very nice but has, you know, antiques.
I can see it working very well if you get the right place.
I have only been there once (it's dh who goes there mostly. On his own.) though so it might be that we have just not noticed the child-friendly aspects.
If it turns out it would work I would be v pleased because it is a lovely place.

MummyBerryJuice · 24/01/2011 20:15

If it is well kitted out it sounds promising. Nice to get out to something a little 'special' instead of the usual. However, Spurriergate is at least close to Waterstones, which gives me an excellent excuse to buy more books (for J of course, not me)

Hmm, just going by a friend's description, Seth- think she goes there with her 3 and said there was lots of room for them to play, but from what you say, maybe it wouldn't be ideal for loads of buggies etc. I'll do a reccy anyway.

Not opposed to oscars at all, I've just not been there with kids before, but guess it would be ok mid-morning...

I bet we end up in the spurriergate Grin

jooseyfruit · 25/01/2011 10:55

yeah, I bet we do too! Maybe we can do Oscars next time. We'll don't want to be too stressed with watching them and not get to natter.

woofie · 25/01/2011 14:30

Grays Court is really lovely- huuuge and full of antiques as Seth said! I can heartily recommend it for family lunch or adults' evening, but I think they might have a heart attack if they found themselves overrun by young children. I was there for lunch with friends today and we had 3 babies between us, but there was only one highchair Hmm. Lovely food though.

10.30 at spurriergate then??

MummyBerryJuice · 25/01/2011 15:11

Ok. Spurriergate is seems it is. 10H30 is perfect. See you on Friday.

Yay!

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 26/01/2011 07:47

hi all, will do my best to get there. We have swimming first thing on friday and then need to bus in to town, but providing we don't have any tantrums, we should be there!

jooseyfruit · 26/01/2011 20:55

cazinski is coming and she's texted deadley.
look forward to meeting you Ethelred

deadley · 26/01/2011 20:57

Just back on line after 2 months of no phone line and just in time it seems!! (Also a text from Cazinski prompted me to check!!). Im up for friday, will bring dd and ds.
See you there:)

jooseyfruit · 26/01/2011 21:00

wahay! thought you'd been a bit quiet deadley. will be lovely to see you and lo's on Friday. Grin

Doucam · 27/01/2011 17:22

Just remembered to come on and check this, is the Friday meet tomorrow Friday?

If it is I can't come as I have a poorly boy at home. :(

Will keep an eye on this thread though and try my hardest to come along to the next one.

Have a lovely time ladies!! x

Whipmawhopma · 27/01/2011 17:29

Lurking with interest!

I've been to Grays Court with the DC, and it was scary - completely and utterly un-child-friendly. The DC were magnificently behaved, but we made it quick (and I had to issue endless reminders/bribes, for fear of never being allowed to darken their doors again). One fantastic place is the central library - the cafe could not be more child friendly if it tried. I'd recommend it above Spurriergate as a future rendezvous (though given that I am just lurking, I can hardly have any say, can I? Grin)

MummyBerryJuice · 27/01/2011 19:44

Why don't you join us Whipmawhopma? (Good name btw Smile)

OP posts:
woofie · 27/01/2011 19:45

Hello whipmawhopma- why only lurking, not joining?!

Yes, I have to say child-friendly isn't an adjective i'd use for grays court- don't know what my friend was thinking, though she does have 3 older girls I suppose. Not a place for my 4yo ds tho and I thought I detected a slight sigh from the maitre d as he saw us traipsing in with baby paraphernalia Grin.

Central library's a good thought for next time though.

I'm hoping I'll still be able to come tomorrow, but like doucam I have 2 poorly boys tonight so will have to see what tomorrow (or more likely tonight) brings.

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 27/01/2011 19:47

my ds1 is not 100% so fingers crossed he'll be ok Smile

Whipmawhopma · 27/01/2011 20:38

Ah, I am lurking because I am up to my eyes in builders, and am allegedly working. Grin Plus I fear my DC are too old (6 and 8). But if I find myself in town, I might just drop by (I was in the Spurriergate place yesterday, but only to use their loo!!)

MummyBerryJuice · 27/01/2011 20:43

All are welcome Whip, despite aged DC. Grin

Thanks, MBJ. Do you think DH will notice if I am not at my desk at 10.30 tomorrow? Grin

fartblossom · 27/01/2011 22:33

Hi,

I cant make tomorrow, but I would love to meet any future meet-ups.

I have 2 children. 6YO boy who's at school full time (obviously) and a 3YO girl who's at nursery 5 mornings a week. I am also PG with number 3, due in Sept.

I will keep an eye out on this thread and try to come to the next one.

MummyBerryJuice · 28/01/2011 06:13

Hi fartblossom. It'll be great to meet you too. Keep an eye on the thread (we sometimes go very quiet for quite a while though)
