Durch die Strassen auf und nieder
leuchten die Laternen wieder:
rote, gelbe, grüne, blaue,
Lieber Martin, komm und schaue!

Wie die Blumen in dem Garten
blühn Laternen aller Arten:
rote, gelbe, grüne, blaue,
Lieber Martin, komm und schaue!

Und wir gehen lange Strecken
mit Laternen an den Stecken
rote, gelbe, grüne, blaue,
Lieber Martin, komm und schaue!

It is that time of the year again. Check your lanterns, get enough batteries, start the Bastelaktion.

No news yet about the flat - just sent the official application form off yesterday so I hope they say yes!

Well done mmlindt, can we still vote?

Westvan, can you remind of the online apotheke you told me about when we met up? I forgot the name! Did you go straight back or stay in town for abit? I just made it as dd was walking out of school I arrived.

Today, after a quick visit to the doctor because of a mysterious rash that looked like loads of little blisters on her tummy found out that dd has got shingles, poor thing. Missing school until all the blisters have gone dry.

ZZZenAgain · 29/10/2009 14:15

where were you on holiday Hupa . Must have been far away if anyone at all was in the pool (shiver, shiver)?!

hupa · 29/10/2009 14:22

We were on a cruise - Italy, Tunisia, Spain and France. Never been on one before and dh had booked it as a surprise, so I didn´t find out about it until a week before we were due to go. He´s never done anything like that before, but I said he´s more than welcome to repeat it in the future .

admylin - good luck with the flat. Sorry about dd. Dh had shingles a few years ago and although he only had a small outbreak he found it really painful. I´ll ask him later what he did to relieve the symptons.

ZZZenAgain · 29/10/2009 14:26

That sounds nice hupa. Yes, you should definitely encourage him with the surprises.

How's the teaching progressing? Are you continuing with it?

ZZZenAgain · 29/10/2009 14:35

I can't see where you are supposed to vote for Halloween names, otherwise I'd vote for you ML

hupa · 29/10/2009 14:37

I´ll continue with the teaching for the moment. It´s usually only for an hour or two a day which is great - enough to enjoy doing something different, but not so long that I need to spend ages planning etc.

hupa · 29/10/2009 14:39

There´s a link at the start of this thread Zzzen.

ZZZenAgain · 29/10/2009 14:39

is it the same school your dc attend?

wondering why ITalian dc are so fat... Or just those who go on cruises?

hupa · 29/10/2009 15:35

Yes unfortunately it is the same school. If you´d asked me a few weeks ago, I´d have said there was no way I´d ever work there, but having been asked I resorted to type and found myself unable to say no. On my third day there I had to take dd´s class as I´d already said I could work before they told me which class I would be covering. It was a bit strange because I know lots of the children and they usually use my first name, but after the initial excitement they calmed down and it was fine. Now I ask which class before agreeing because I´d really rather not have dd´s class.

westvan · 29/10/2009 15:50

Hi admylin. It was really nice meeting you! It's www.sanicare.de - I haven't had a problem with them and they deliver within a couple of days and stock most everything a regular pharmacy has. I stayed downtown for about half an hour longer and then got a headache and headed for home :-)
Hope dd gets over the shingles soon. My husband had them and they were awful - he was a big baby the whole time. Have the rest of you had the chicken pox yet, because shingles can sometimes cause a breakout.

MmeGoblindt · 29/10/2009 16:50

Admylin
Oh, your poor DD. My mum had shingles years ago and took ages to recover (mainly because she kept feeling a wee bit better and then decided to go back to work). The docs eventually told her not to bother coming in until they todl her. She worked in the pain clinic so they were her consultants on the shingles.

I do recall her having a Tens machine, I think that helped.

Thanks for linking to the halloween name change thread, Hupa but I think that ABetaDad has it wrapped up. Never mind, I was excited to be nominated.

Off to a wine tasting evening tonight, better go and get showered and changed.

admylin · 29/10/2009 17:32

Thanks everyone, dd isn't too bad actually - it's more painfull the older you are so she is actually quite fit but keeps looking in horror at these huge blisters which are just waiting to pop. She has to stay home because of the risk of chicken pox infection when the blisters burst.

Good news - quite unbelievable but both dc have new timetables and they start and finish at exactly the same time EVERY DAY! It'll only last 'til January I suppose but still, very nice for once.

stickylittlefingers · 02/11/2009 17:55

Hello! I was here once before (or a previous thread) asking about things German... can I ask again, slightly more focussed now as it's getting more organised? Please look at my thread over here thank you!

MmeGuisingt · 03/11/2009 10:20

stickylittlefingers
Have posted on your thread. Some of the other German MNetters lived in Berlin and can advise you better on areas of the city.

How are you all doing?

Admylin
How is your DD?

My DD is home at the moment too, bad cold. I could let her go to school I guess but they are all a bit paranoid about Swine Flu so thougth I would keep her off.

There have been a few cases of SF in DH's work. Hope he does not get it.

Actually, I really hope that my neighbours don't get it, particularly him. He has no spleen and is quite susceptible to infections.

DD can't wait to get back to school, she is bored at home

canella · 03/11/2009 13:04

havent caught up with the thread properly - been mad busy with guests and now dd is off for half term!!

hope your dd is better soon mmeguisingt! i'm sure its not SF if she's desp to get back to school! a patient in dh's ward might have it and dh came home from work feeling like poo yesterday (he's never ill!!)! i was proper worried but think it was only a migraine - he's gone to work today! really doubted SF would get to rural Franken but you never know!

admylin - hope your dd is better too! did you get a flat sorted?

been an exciting week for my little ds's - they've started going on the wee kindergarten bus from the village!! its just a 7 seater minibus but they feel so grown up!! its taken us these 7 months to trust ds2 to not play up (he's been a little shit monkey at times!!) but he's definitely better behaved these days!! its so nice not to have to drive back and forward to kiga twice a day - felt like i was on a scalextrix track at times!!

ZZZenAgain · 03/11/2009 16:05

are you still jogging canella. I admire people who do it in horrible cold wet weather when it is all dark. I really couldn't face it.

Never heard of a kiga bus before.

Just wondering, have you all vaccinated your dc against swine flu or are you not bothering with it? Dh says not to bother, he thinks flu vaccinations are a waste of time. I really don't know.

canella · 03/11/2009 16:27

could lie since you'd never find out but i've not been jogging for the last couple of months!!! just had one cold after another and decided to get back into it but dd has half term this week so on monday morning next week i'll be jogging - weight is on a steady upward climb so need to do something!

the kiga bus is sponsered by the local community and the catholic church and covers the local villages (the boys go to kiga in the next village 2 miles away)! so it only costs us 10 euros per child per month!!!

not having swine flu vaccine - dont feel its been properly tested yet! never had a flu vaccine and worked in a hospital for the last 12 winters and never caught flu!

ZZZenAgain · 03/11/2009 16:30

so your dc also won't be vaccinated canella? I am quite torn, I just don't know. Dh has never had a flu vaccine and just never catches the flu despite working all the hours God sends and generally living a very unhealthy life IYAM. I try to live more healthily and I get a flu vaccine every autumn after which I am always sick.

Hmmmm

Wish I knew

10 Euros a month is extremely reasonable. I would use that service too. I am wondering about a cross-trainer. Where to put it and if I would ever use it etc...

MmeGuisingt · 03/11/2009 16:33

I use my Crosstrainer regularly, ZZzen, to hang the shirts on when I iron.

Never had the flu jab, and not intending getting it either. I think that a lot of people say, 'I have the flu' when they really have a bad cold.

My mum asked her GP once how to tell the difference between flu and cold and he said if you can get out of bed and make yourself a lemsip then it is a cold.

Kindergarten bus sounds fab, Canella.

ZZZenAgain · 03/11/2009 16:45

are they trying to get widespread vaccination of dc in CH ML?

Hmm something else to hang the ironing on...
I don't think I'd use it. I used to have an exercise bike thing which I did use but it broke

not because I was too heavy for it, honestly not

Yuri Geller fixed it (I kid you not!) but it went bust again not long after

MmeGuisingt · 03/11/2009 16:53

LOL at Yuri fixing it.

I do use the XT a bit, just not as much as I should.

I have not heard about vaccinations in CH, will ask at the school gate. Not really wanting to get DC done unless absolutely necessary.

canella · 04/11/2009 11:20

random question - went to a mall near us yesterday and had tea in the most fantastic insulated bowls - wonder where i could get them from?

this is a tiny pic of the tea bowls

tried to look on the web for them but only found really random things!

ZZZenAgain · 04/11/2009 11:29

can't see your tea bowls on there. No idea canella. Why don't you just ask in the cafe? Or if you have a specialist tea shop in town, perhaps you could describe what them and they might know or be able to order something.

MmeGuisingt · 05/11/2009 07:53

Can't see the bowls either, Canella. I have an insulated coffee cup to go, I use it when in the office. It is very good.

Am off for coffee this morning with some friends from American Womens Club.

admylin · 05/11/2009 08:02

Aren't the bowls at the top on the photo - sort of transparant beaker type things? Good idea though, my tea is always going cold because I forget about it!

I brought an insulated coffe mug back from the US, must remember to use it!

Not enough hours in the day at the moment, I've just got dd back on her feet and she's gone back to school for the first day. She was really ill over the weekend and in pain where the rash is. Supposed to be getting an appointment for the winter check on the car too but some places are a rip off.

Love the new emoticon !
