Hurrah for Cali & passport.

I LOVE lexulous, are you anyone's friend on facebook, if so, they can direct us towards each other & i'll play you, elkie.

bunkups, dh's job has left us in limbo for the last 9 years & i'm still not used to it!! he got paid for may, that's about as certain as life gets for us!

dooney, pimms tastes like fizzy sherbert lemonade. tis gorgeous, but a bit too sweet.
no 3 cup is also possible, and you don't have to mix it with fizzy english lemonade (like sprite, sort of).

there, have i couaght up now? oh yes, mananny, time will fly.

elkiedee · 17/06/2009 21:36

I have quite a lot of facebook friends on mumsnet - some from the big mn group, most from due date groups.

Getting that passport sounds like a nightmare califrau, I just hope you can get flights at a price which isn't too appalling.

How long are US summer holidays?

dooneygirl · 17/06/2009 21:59

US summer holidays are far too long. This year it will be about exactly 3 months, at least for my kids.

Glad you have the passport, Cali.

Elkiedee, most of the Lexulous players have been the last few people who have commented on this thread. If you have CAT, you can get a hold of one of us, in which case, that person does a good job in directing you toward the others. Speaking of which, real life kind of got in my way of playing, but now summer's here, I have no life again, so if any of you are looking for another game. . .

kickassangel · 17/06/2009 22:17

ME!!

dd's school finished last week (although i took her out early) & doesn't go back til sep 8. yesterday she was crying & said she wanted to go to school to do some work. how are we going to cope with another 10 weeks?

SuperBunny · 17/06/2009 22:53

Ooo, you've been busy. I like it when it is busy on here

I have spent all afternoon applying for a job, only for the website to crash everytime I get close to pressing send. Grrr.

I am overwhelmed with Lexulous atm and am angry that it allows abbreviations and things that aren't actually words but won't allow real words like 'gloopier'

OP posts:
kickassangel · 18/06/2009 08:39

gloopier! excellent word.

SuperBunny · 18/06/2009 17:10

It is, isn't it.

I need a small rant. I know, it's hard to believe...

I want to go back to teaching. I taught in the UK for 3 years and over here for 2. I haven't taught for 3 years.

There aren't many primary jobs.

Schools won't hire me - no recent experience. Fair enough.

Supply agencies won't hire me.

HTF does one get recent experience if no-one will employ you?

Argh!

kickassangel · 18/06/2009 21:29

argh! my sister had this. (and she worked up until getting on the boat back to the uk) & she worked in an international school doing the english curriculum.
she did some kind of retraining course (i know) before getting a job. then she had to start again at the bottom of the ladder (though not the bottom of the pay scale) but managed to get points etc fairly quickly

SuperBunny · 18/06/2009 21:36

It's so farking annoying! And going back 2 weeks before the schools break up isn't helpful either - it means no chance of getting work for over 7 weeks at least.

Come September I will prostitute myself to all and sundry in the hope of some kind of school-based job.

Hi SB. I'm just back after watching some Dr Who with dh. Sorry to hear that your saga is stil in full flow. Hope it works out.

kickassangel · 19/06/2009 09:02

sb, would you be able to get a summer job? i once had a very fun summer hiring out rowing boats on a river, which was quite lucrative, and gave me a fnatastic suntan.

dooneygirl · 20/06/2009 01:57

Sorry about the job thing. I can only imagine how hard it would be after being out of the work force for so long.

I thought about you twice when making dinner tonight. The first time was because I realized that any time I make a vegetarian recipe from any of the big Brit chefs or off BBC 4, I always get asked to make it again.

The second was because I thought you'd enjoy this cake. I thought it was really good, even DH did, and he hates cake. My only problem was I couldn't wait to pick the berries, and put on my Ove Gloves and tried to pick them, but am now covered in anti-itch cream and hopped up on Benadryl. (I'm highly itchy allergic to the strawberry leaves, so picking them is torture, but can eat them and handle the berries themselves just fine. The kids hate that fact, because they want me to take them picking.)

I can't tell you how long it took to type this, as I'm typoing all over the place.

SuperBunny · 20/06/2009 02:39

Oh that's funny - I am in the midst of a radish leaf allergy - I'm covered in itchy bumps. It is so not worth it for radishes. Strawberries are another matter.

That cake does look good - I like Smitten Kitten.

I'm glad that Brit Chefs are delivering good veggie recipes.

Congratulations on the passport Cali!
Maybe this is good vibes for you too SB.

The cake sounds delish, dooney. I told dh that you were quite the foodie and he admonished me not to get ideas...I really can't cook very well but occasionally get the thought that I can and the whole family then suffers

SuperBunny · 20/06/2009 20:06

lol Jabber, you can't be that bad, surely?!

I am reading Little House in the Big Woods and there is a song about Darkey Ned, with no wool on his head, going where the other darkeys go

OP posts:
jabberwocky · 20/06/2009 20:50

hmmm, well, it's not as if I burn the food frequently or things like that. But I like to try unusual things that no one ends up eating - including me sometimes and even the fairly normal things that I do like to eat and cook are generally rejected by the family i.e. polenta with roasted vegetables.

jabberwocky · 20/06/2009 20:52

oh, and it can be a bit to read how extremely racist things used to be.

kickassangel · 20/06/2009 21:16

i seem to have lost the ability to cook since moving to the US! have decided that when dd is in school full days, the eve meal can be salad/soup/snacks etc. at weekends i may bother to cook a proper meal, but after 17 years of marriage, i just can't be bothered any more! (at least with cooking)

SuperBunny · 20/06/2009 21:17

I'd reject Polenta too, Jabber

Actually, yours might be quite delicious and I bet Dooney is good at it too. I just have never been able to make savoury polenta that is edible.
